  2. After watching every mediocre post player in the conference have a career day in scoring against us the last few years I'm glad to see Zoellner in there. I don't know how many times I've seen a guy catch the ball down low this year in decent postion (when he would have scored easily last year) see Zoellner and kick it back out again. He intimidates alot of shots, one of the UMBC players stated it in the paper the other day and their center Feeley, had half his usual scoring average in that game. Possibly just a coincidence but I'll credit Zoellner. His offense is a work in progress. The times I've seen him be effective is when they come out of a timeout and pound it down to him a couple of times in a row. It seems like early in the game the opposing defenses are prepared for him but get away from that later in the game. He'll come around but even if he doesn't I'll take 8 or 9 points and half a dozen rebounds for now.
  3. I believe the Cup was 2K3's creation but I'll give it a go. By my reckoning the tally so far this year is Albany 4 Siena 1. Albany won head to head matchups in field hockey, men's soccer, volleyball and men's basketball. Siena won in women's soccer. For the calendar year 2004 it was 9-2 Albany. That number is inflated partially because they played softball four times and Albany won each meeting. This years spring schedule is the same as last years. They only played each other in women's lax, softball and tennis. Albany won the lax game and Siena won in tennis.

  5. Reminds me of Courtney Johnson last year and I don't mean that as a slight to either player because I like them both. I knew they would miss Ayers and Sweetland and it's really apparent when you watch them. Kind of interesting, Mikus has taken seven 3s this year and Mookie has taken 29 I was surprised to see Thrower play so much the other night and neither James nor Johnson played at all.
  6. Like alot of you I was impressed to see incoming President Hall at the women's game the other night. I'm thinking we should drop him a note when he takes over just to let him know there are interested alumni and students around. I went on the Utah State (Halls' former school) to get their impressions of him and how he deals with athletics. The comments were mostly positive. They're posted below: LorenzoInLogan "My assesment of Hall can be found, in detail, at: USUAGGIES.COM Take it for what it's worth. Hall is an opportunist and will leave Albany for greener pastures at the first opportunity. Gauran-damn-teed. SUNY-Albany isn't the destination of his goals. " Jdogslim "HE IS ATHLETICS FRIENDLY " WacnIt "I have found our board is split in half with how much they like Hall regarding athletics. He has done more than any other president at USU in the development of our athletic programs. The guy implemented a womans bball team, got us two conference invitations, including the WAC, hired the best AD USU has ever seen in recent history, and fired the worst AD USU has ever seen (that just took a little too long). He get's a lot of critisim for jumping ship on us after only four years as president. The man is very passionate for prestige, he always mentions our accomplishments in articles that other schools, such as Harvard, cannot do. He came to USU with a goal of making it THE #1 research institutions in the world... literally. I truly dont think he is going to be happy unless he's the president of Harvard or Yale. Sorry, back to athletics, I think he did a damn fine job. " tejasag " Hall did an incredible amount......of positive things for Utah State in a short period of time IMHO. That goes for academics and athletics. SUNY-Albany will be glad to have him. Good Luck!"
  7. Alum73-I thought the candy thing was great. Hopefully get the students on a sugar buzz much like my newphew usually is when we bring him to games. Nice to have a positive alumni-student interaction but I can see where it would get costly.
  8. Hard to say if it's a turnaround as UMBC isn't that strong of a team. Because of all the road games I haven't seen many games. A few things I saw from the other night: The guard spot still seems unsettled and is the achilles heel. I like Mikus as a point guard, she handles the ball well, is strong and can drive to the basket. She doesn't have a good outide shot though and opposing defenses can sag off her to help clog up the middle and defend on Hutch. Schumaker on the other hand is a great outside shooter but really doesn't drive to the hoop well. A couple of other slashers off the bench in Thrower, Johnson and James but still no outside shooting. I think in conference play your team is much more well scouted and you can't get away with as much as you can in OOC games. Just going from the box scores the other teams we've played know this and are defending the same way. Just going from the box scores Alisha Learn doesn't seem to be playing as well as she did last year. I'm not sure if they changed her role or not. I suspect that when Hutch was out for a few games last year and Learn was the leading scorer during that time gave her alot of confidence which carried over the rest of the year. She doesn't look the same out there this year but I could be wrong. Hopefully the guard play can be figured out because Mookie and Hutch are playing really well and a tough combo inside to stop.
  9. Maybe candy will work. One of the alumni I've seen at just about every Danes event was throwing candy into the student section at last nights women's game. Not little bite size ones either. I thought that was pretty cool.
  10. UMBC back on track, beating Albany, 67-62-Baltimore Sun Fatigue hurts Danes-TU Danes rally for victory-TU
  11. Dartmouth and UMass are both ranked in the top 25 and Albany plays them at home. Is that the first time that's happened? A pretty tough schedule but wins over those two would get the Danes some R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
  12. I like both those boards you guys mentioned. Also the Hansen Board is good in season as is the lax board for lacrosse fans. The Siena board has been depressing this season for the most part. One thing I found amusing was in their future head coach wish list they have....Will Brown on the list. Funny since most of the Siena people were killing him when Albany hired him. Someone else has adopted the slogan-"Not just basketball...crappy Siena basketball."
  13. Just one today. I didn't realize Lou was that close to 1,000 points. Jordan settles at home-TU
  14. Haven't seen much of Bauman but I can see him at PG. Seems like a heady player and good passer. I've seen Covington listed anywhere from 6'6 to 6'8, if he can play I don't think it makes that much difference (see Michael Haddix-although I'm not comparing them). The nice part about Dyson is we can see where he is after backing up Zoellner for a year. I think he's going to be a good player but as Reeder said the jury is still out. Hopefully either he or Covington will emerge with the time given. Other than maybe another big, the thing I see this team lacking is another guy who can get the rim after Lou graduates. Some good shooters in Iati, and Bauman and a nice ballhandler and all-arond player in Lillis but no slashers other than Jamar.
  15. Just curious what the thought process was for filling the scholarship left by Perry. Presuming Covington signs I'm not sure if you need another front court player, maybe take a big project to redshirt if anything. I'd rather see another slasher-type guard come in who could play the off-guard and small forward spots.
  16. I think that was taken from a Lanier quote. He doesn't seem to know what to say to the press anymore. All the media attention that Siena gets is great when things are going go but has to weigh you down when your going through the nightmare they are right now. Watchd some of the game on MSG last night. McClinton is a pretty good looking guard as is the one Fischer. As we all know, tough to win with a freshman backcourt and they are playing 3 freshman guards. Bunch of guys injured also-alot like Albany was last year.
  17. I'm guessing Patch's RPI numbers are from Sunday and they updated them this morning. It's now 197. Sagarain is 182 and Pomeroy is 176.
  18. Long Trip Pays off for UAlbany-TU Albany put the Squeeze on U Maine men-Portland Press Herald
  19. How sweet was that? Back to back wins against conference teams Albany had never beaten before in Bing and Maine. To beat Maine on the road when they were picked to finish 3rd. In baseball you'd call it timely hitting, maybe timely rebouding today-Levi and Lillis cleaned up the glass during that spurt at the end to pull away. Danes got outrebounded overall but they really limited Maine to one shot in the final couple of minutes of that game. Terrific free throw shooting (21-25) and it sounded like everyone stepped up and chipped in when Zoellner got into foul trouble. This team seems like it's coming together and figuring out how to win.
  20. Maine drew over 2,000 to that game. Granted Maine is still pretty good but this is the second game in a row the women failed to score 50 points and were beaten pretty badly on the boards. The two things I didn't think they'd have trouble with was rebounding and scoring.
  21. Wilson is getting right at the point-TU Walk-on Hight steps into starting role-Maine Today
  22. One of those 70 point games was a double OT game with Stony Brook. The one where Munir hit the 3 at the buzzer to tie the game. He hit a similar shot on the road last year to win that game. I'm glad he graduated.
  23. If I'm not mistaken Maine's starting point guard is out for a couple of weeks. Their backup played well in a win over UNH but should be interesting to see how he handles the Danes pressure.
  24. I agree the press has worked well and as AO pointed out Q is a menace when he's leading it. He really understands what he has to do and is such a heady player to apply pressure without fouling. A nice rotation has worked out with him and Brent Wilson to keep Q fresh when leading it too. My concern with pressing more often is the heavy minutes logged by Jamar, Levi and Lou. I thought with about four minutes left in the Bing game both teams looked like heavyweight fighters who were punched out and hanging on to each other. Hopefully if Lillis and Courtney can contribute something to give those three a rest. In terms of RPI, this was the biggest win of the year.
  25. The pics have to live on the internet somewhere for you to show them GD84. Sorry, but there's just not enough space to host user posted images here. Glad you had a good trip and enjoyed a fun athmosphere. Hopefully that kind of athmosphere will be coming to the RACC on a smaller scale. Is that what ASU usually draws or was it because it was UCLA?
