  1. Weren't they announced in the spring last year? Two guys that I've seen menitoned. One is a fullback named Brian Friedman from NJ. Supposedly down between Monmouth and Albany but Rutgers offered him a preferred walk-on so he is going there. The other is Brandon Flores a TE. He was offered by Albany and UMass but apparently wanted to go to UConn. He's prepping this year.
  2. I'd take this with a couple of grains of salt but Albany supposedly has some interested in a 6'5 small forward named Brian Hoff. He plays for the #16 ranked team in the country (Arlington Country Day School FL). The reason I mention him is that he will be playing on ESPN on Thurs night. He plays along side a couple of SEC and ACC recruits.
  3. Brown mentioned this on the coaches show a couple of weeks ago. I thought he's worked on this the past few games and against Hartford he didn't post up but took a couple of jumpers in the paint. He also went to the hoop late in the game and got hammer by Goode. To me part of the fun of watching college basketball is seeing players develop new skills over the course of their careers. Almost all freshman come in with holes in their game. Good players come in, work hard to get better and improve every year-Lucious working on his outside shooting is a good example. It's hard to predict who will work hard to improve and who won't and will be happy sitting on the bench. From what I've seen of them Lillis and Wilson will fill in some of those holes by their junior and senior years.
  4. Had a trip this weekend so I am only going by what was reported on this board and in the papers. My beef wouldn't really be with B. Wilson and Lillis who I like alot but more with end of game sitatuions. Of our three tight conference games this year (BU twice, NU) that have come down to a last shot I really don't think there's been a decent look at the basket in any of those games. I understand it's a learning experience and all three of those shots came against experienced team but I hope we figure out how to grab one of these tight games.
  5. For being selected AE player of the week. Hutcheson, Laws, Hood, Sario Earn Women's Basketball Accolades Albany’s Danielle Hutcheson (Phoenix, Ariz./Greenway) and Binghamton’s Rachel Laws (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) share the Wilson Player of the Week award, while Danielle Hood (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) of Hartford and Laura Sario (Espoo, Finland/Etela-Tapiolanlukio) of Binghamton split the Rookie of the Week honors. The accolades were announced on Monday (January 31). Hutcheson helped the Great Danes record their first two-win week in America East play since February 2004. Hutcheson scored a game-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal as Albany upset first-place Hartford. The senior center followed that with a game-high 18 points as the Great Danes notched their first win over Boston U. in eight tries. Hutcheson added eight boards, four blocks, one assist and one steal. She moved into third on the school’s all-time scoring charts and now has 1,217 career points. Hutcheson also took over sole possession of third place on the school’s block charts with 108.
  6. You guys can argue this all day if you want but for the 1,000th time no personal attacks!

  8. Welcome to the Board! If you have any questions about how things work feel free to email me. Ilook forward to seeing you post and again, Welcome!
  9. I didn't catch Wyland sports show at 11 but I did see the early ones. I was surprised Zoellner's putback dunk off the layup didn't make the highlights. Probably was tough competetion with all of Jamar's acrobatic layups. As I have the last few games I thought Jamar really had his hand on the pulse of the game. Everytime Hartford put a couple of baskets together he would either create a shot for himself or someone else and end the Hartford "run." No offense to the Hawks but I was really hoping when the lead was hovering around 15-17 points in the second half they would put the clamps down and deliver the knockout blow to get the starters some rest. I was happy to see Lillis look more assertive going to the hoop a couple of times. Also maybe the first time I've seen somebody make a basket and then get a technical called on him. Probably not much doubt about what Levi said to him.
  10. Sorry Nuss, I'll try to be more energetic when the Evil Empire comes to town next week. You guys did a nice job though. It's too bad the rest of the students were on the other end of the court and could not be swept up in your chants from so far away. There used to be a designated student section so a handful of "rowdies" like yourself could incite the whole section. Personally, I miss the flag guy. I'm on the fence about the TV games. It seemed at first there used to be some extra excitement about them but I don't get that feeling anymore. I do really like the televised road games but we don't have much of that this year. AO is right about it being a good recruiting tool.

  12. As much as I would like to I don't think I'll be able to make the Varisty Club meeting tonight. Hopefully those who attend will post about what happens there. I like Charlie Voelker's projections for attendance in today's TU. 2,000 or so a game this year, in the 3000s next year and selling out the RACC the year after. I hope it goes quicker than that but 2500-3000 with some noisy students would provide a nice home court advantage. Kudos to the students in the RACC lot on gamedays. My wife and I were commenting on how unpleasant it must be to stand out there for an hour+ before the games in tempatures of 0 degrees and below. To their credit they are always friendly despite the temps and nice ambassadors to the RACC. If more students show up tonight I credit Alum73s candy throwing as much as the marketing of Charlie Voelker. He may want to change his handle to "The Candyman."
  13. Or her second or third priority either but you're right that will come. Especially if she can beat her defender consistently off the dribble.
  14. I hope your right about history repeating. I found myself wishing Hartford would press Thrower because she was going around their defenders like those orange traffic cones. Really fun to watch on both ends of the court.

  16. Danes a sight for more eyes-TU Danes happy to be back home at RACC-Troy Record
  17. Stony Brook might not scare anyone but I'm sure there are alot of people who find Fiore frightening.
  18. That's the quote from Stony Brook AD Jim Fiore. More about how he wants to take over the world and the future of Nick Macarchuk in Newsday
  19. I got a call this afternoon from a Siena season ticket holder who works in my office. He asked about ticket prices and where to park for the games at the RACC. I was of course more than happy to help him in his efforts to see some high quality college basketball. It's a great day to be a Great Dane fan.
  20. You've certainly seen more of this team than I have. I have to agree I had higher expectations for this team than we've seen in conference play.
  21. I agree with all your points Reeder and Hartford is 3-2 in their last 5 games. My concern is that the Danes have already beaten Hartford on the road and may be tempted to overlook them especially with BU coming up. Despite the long bus trip last week I thought they overlooked the UMBC game coming off the Maine win as some people predicted they might. It has to be a totally different mindset from the last few years where they have been battling to stay out of the conference cellar. Jockeying for conference/tournament position is a completely new animal for this this program.
  22. I thought they'd struggle with a freshman backcourt but I didn't think it would be this much. I read their board from time to time but I'm much more concerned with our place in the conference standings at this point than their misery.
  23. I hope you're right Ruler. He made the ESPN draft board also. ESPN Draft. There's more info there but I'm not sure how to get it.
  24. When the DAnes began their three game road trip I thought they realistically had a shot to take 1 of 3 and best case they could take 2 of 3. Listening to the Vermont game yesterday I was thinking more about the blown opportunity of the UMBC game than Vermont. With 10 games left Albany is still in fourth place. 7 of the 10 games are against teams below us in the standings and 6 of them are home games. Hopefully the Danes can put a sucessful string of games together and gain some confidence going into the tourney.
  25. That's a nice section and a big step. I also really enjoyed this story in today's paper about the AE, MAAC comparison. A light in the East-TU
