  1. I can't speak for Statefan. While there was some celebration it was more the fact that the lines at my house were down from the ice.
  2. A Rare Comeback-TU Wilson Stands out as Danes top Bearcats-Troy Record Bearcats flustered by Albany pressure-Press and Sun Bulletin BU snaps streak: 'It feels amazing'-Press and Sun Bulletin
  3. The Bing women have gone the same route as the men. They have a terrible record (1-10) but have played a pretty tough schedule. Their only real bad loss is to Cornell. Bing men should be in the middle of the pack by the end of the season. As the Troy Record pointed out this morning we've taken some bad teams to the woodshed but haven't beaten a team ranked around or above us. BingU is ranked above the Danes, was picked to finish higher than the Danes in conference and haven't lost to them in conference play. A win tonight would be a big confidence boost.
  4. UAlbany turns to Zoellner-Times Union Great Danes in need of some consistency-Troy Record BU men will soon find out if early games lead to wins-Press and Sun Bulletin
  5. One thing about Reeder's second point about Jamar. I don't think it's the opposing guards that he's been getting offensive fouls against but the secondary defender coming over to help near the basket. He's getting by his guy but keeps going to the hoops and getting called for the foul on that contact. I suspect some of this has to do with the fact that as the primary ball handler the defense is set-up facing him. Two years ago when he was the off guard he could catch and drive before the defense could reset which is what Lou has done so well this year. I think that's why they'd like Lillis at the point when he fully recovers from his wrist injury. So far this season Q has done the best job of recognizing Jamar's drive to the hoop and moving to an open area to get the pass for easy points. When Zoellner recognizes this he could have double digits every night. I'm sure with more playing time it'll come more naturally to him.
  6. That is great stuff no matter how you look at it. Hopefully this spurs interest for tomorrow nights game and the home games for the rest of the season. Brown's comments about staying are certainly music to our ears. Sometime this winter or spring we should be reading about Brown being given a contract extension.
  7. I agree AO. It looked like they were trying to set up Bauman for the last shot. Tough spot to bring a freshman in but I guess that's why you recruit a three point specialist.
  8. I'm surprised to see you throw Orr in there with Deane and Hewitt, Saint73. I thought Orr gave Siena a raw deal when he was there. He said he didn't want the job after it was offered to him and then reluctantly took it. He left after the first chance he got. I don't think he was the head coach at Siena for over 10 months. To me, Deane and Hewitt helped build Siena and Orr just used that as a stepping stone to another position.
  9. Danes suffer narrow defeat-Times Union Huskies frustrate Danes-Troy Record
  10. This was not the type of game for Zoellner. Very quick, up and down game isn't where we are going to see him excel. I thought he played with some energy early but got lifted for Wyatt. Barea is terrific. He threw some great pass throughout that game. Good shooter, good passer. I think he would have had problems defending Jamar had he stayed in the game but who doesn't. I understand this is second guessing and I really like Brian Lillis but I would have liked to see Courtney Johnson get a shot at guarding Barea in the first half. Barea took over the game when Jamar left and forced Brown's hand to put him back in. I'm not saying Courtney would have necessarily done better but I would have liked to see him get a chance. Q didn't miss from the field today. Brent Wilson played well again. He actually turned down a couple of open shots I would have like to see him take. Not a bad crowd today, around 1200 but kinda quiet. I can't wait until the students get back so we can get a decent "DE-FENSE" chant going.
  11. I enjoy pointing out that Northeastern was one of the teams picked ahead of the Danes in the preseason poll this year. Wednesday's opponent, BingU, was also.
  12. Another game last night and another big scoring game: "No. 5 Camden Catholic outscored Gloucester Catholic in every quarter en route to a 74-48 victory. Brian Connelly led the Irish with 30 points."
  13. That's a terrific idea. I watched that game last night. I was unhappy with the outcome but it was great to see them promo both the coaches show and the upcoming televised Danes games to local basketball fans.
  14. I got an email yesterday from the Alumni Association about the Varsity Club. They are holding a meeting before the Hartford game to solicit imput and discuss ways to build fan support and strengthen the program. This is certainly a step in the right direction. If I can sneak out of work early I will try and make it over there. They also seem to have taken Statefan's recommendation and will have a Varsity Club table in the main lobby.
  15. Schenectady Patriots that is. Should be a great game tonight between CBA and Schenectady televised on Time Warner. They moved the game to HVCC because the schools weren't big enough. I know Statefan is an Albany High fan but I have to think your rooting against the Brothers tonight.
  16. The roadblock to the 2006 tourney is the MAAC. They've already announced it will be held at the Pepsi. I know in the past one of the reasons they given against Albany is that they didn't want to run it against the MAAC tourney. I thought Albany had a better chance for 2005 when the MAAC tournament is in Buffalo.
  17. Great Danes dump UNH-Laconia Citizen Danes' offense takes over-Times Union Danes quickly becoming road warriors-Troy Record
  18. After losing two straight his team got back to winning last night. Connelly had 22 pts. Some quotes by him and about him in this story. Irish sustain supremacy-Cherry Hill Courier Post
  19. I didn't think it would be that easy. Sturgill being out certainly hurt UNH. Danes picked a good night to go cold from 3. They shot 3-15 and still won by 22. Doubled them up on the boards 44-2 and Q was two boards from a double-double.
  20. I don't know if there's any story but Knotts played a few minutes tonight. I know there is something about reshirts not travelling with the team but I don't rember what it is. I thought Dyson was in the stands for the home games but I could be wrong.
  21. I watched some of the Villanova-West Virginia game last night. WV went into the game undefeated and ranked #23. Villanova took them to the woodshed. I didn't get the final score but Nova was up by 35 in the second half when I switched to Notre Dame-Seton Hall.
  22. Funny, Channel 9 reported that the Lady Danes won last night. Kind of a bad loss to open conference play with. I think UNH was picked to finish 8th this year although there are no easy conference road wins.
  23. UAlbany has eye on middle-TU Straight shooters - UNH men hoping freshmen will give team offensive spark-Portsmouth Herald
  24. I think Ecker was here during Beeten's final half season. He was one of the guys who left the team when Gallup did. It was Gallup, Vandenberg and several other walk-ons who left after the first semester.
  25. Sorry about that UA66. It's the profanity blocker or whatever it's called on the board. It's set to substitute siena or sienafan for certain profane words. Richard Crossett is no problem but when you shorten it to sienafan you get a substitute. I can probably take that one off. For the most part I agree with Patch although there are some more realistic people over on the $iena board as well. I think when the others pump up the MAAC, or more likely degrade the America East they forget than any team in either conferences is only as good as their current head coach. They can be in the top 100 (Manhattan w/ Gonzo, BU with Wolfe, hopefully Albany with Brown someday soon) or they one of the worst teams in the country. Like the mutal fund people say, "past performance is not indicitive of future results." At this point in the season I'm much more concerned with New Hampshire and the rest of the conference schedule than the fear and loathing going on at $iena. We have some great home games coming up starting Sunday. JJB vs. Jamar Wilson-I can't wait.
