  1. I'm guessing that's "injury start" vs. "taking over someone's starting position." To me it doesn't make that much difference. He's going to get nearly a starters minutes coming off the bench.
  2. They start a guy named "Gunnar" and he only averages 4 points a game. That's just not right.
  3. Wright is an awful loss for them. Sorry to see that he may lose this season. I really mean that. Patrick Gym is pretty much a house of horrors for everyone although we've had some really enjoyable trips up there late in the year.
  4. This might be a fun topic for a poll - a choice between the light and the dark side. I actually like the darker arena. Happy Holidays!
  5. Pretty decent crowd tonight, over 3K. When we add some students into the mix in January it's going to be fun. Good week for Joe Cremo. His Scotia Tartans are undefeated and he nets a career high while electrifying Sefcu Arena. If we're going to win the conference we're going to need nights like that. 44 points from the bench is a great lift.
  6. Starting to sound like last year's Niagara game where we had a bunch of guys with the flu. I'm ready for more minutes for David Nichols!
  7. Not much recruiting news lately. According to AUSA Hoops we have offers out to two Australians: Jack White - a 6'6 guard Myles Cherry - a 6'8 power forward
  8. It'll be interesting to see what happens to our rotation when Travis Charles is available. Right now it seems: -Dallas is trending toward more minutes except for the SFPA games. Charles might impact that when he returns. -Cremo is getting similar minutes to Stire without starting. -Jamir Andrews hasn't played double digit minutes since the Yale and NJIT games in November. These upcoming weeks when we have games and practices but no classes should help Andrews and Charles. I think coaches get practice more over the break. Andrews seems pretty solid on the offensive end but has seemed to struggle on defense.
  9. As Click said, a disjointed game but I'll take the win. When you shoot 18% from three and win fairly comfortably I won't ask any questions. It looked like Travis Charles was dressed to play and then left the bench in the first half. Between the heart scare and food poisoning that kid has a rough intro to D1 hoops. Hopefully he gets healthy soon. This team hasn't always passed the eye test but after 11 games we're off to our best start since Mike Black's senor year. This is kind of a blue collar team and that was a workman-like win. The fire alarm break in the old gym was kind of fun. I got to meet some past UA hoop legends and sing some Jingle Bells. It wasn't all bad. I thought they just should have had the two teams play right in the old gym.
  10. They were supposed to be reevaluated Tues. Even if healthy, they'd just be starting to practice after a 10-day layoff by next weekend. Hopefully we'll have the Chipolte 2 back for this game in some capacity.
  11. If there was a sudden announcement that we were joining the CAA I'd be more likely to believe in the power of this thread.
  12. Every good rivalry needs good lore and that was one that will be remembered for a long time. Hopefuly Cremo forgets it sometime but I don't think it will be anytime soon.
  13. I don't think you recall correctly. They've had the game on their home floor, as part of their season ticket package for over a decade. They've haven't been "screwed" out of anything.
  14. We also were pressing for turnovers in the closing minutes. When they broke the press it lead to a couple of those open dunks.
  15. There were a couple of Clareth jump shots in the second half that hit the rim, bounced up and hit the north star then fell through the hoop. When those went in I had flashbacks to Hymes banking a three pointer during Mitch's only win against us.
  16. Sometimes it's not the worst thing to get smacked in the face. It wakes you up. Siena was hungrier and physical and I didn't think we responded that well. We didn't shoot free throws horribly (70%) but we missed five in a row during that stretch when they built the lead. That's just not Albany basketball.
  17. I've probably seen less but that's been my overall impression also. When their opponent also creates open space either pushing the pace or trapping (Manhattan and Hofstra) they've looked really good. They've struggled more with half-court oriented teams (Cornell, St. Peters.) Looking forward to this game in part because it's Albany-Siena but also because they've improved and it will be a good test to see where we are at this point in the season. I was hoping we'd have at least one of Charles or Peters back for Saturday but that's not looking so good.
  18. I like the buy-in from this team this year. Maybe even more than last year. Sharing the basketball and really no crazy ill-advised shots. I think we've had 5 different leading scorers this year. Fun basketball to watch.
  19. Thanks for confirming that actually happened. Halfway through the story I thought I was hallucinating. Overall, they were about as complimentary to an opposing team as any announcers you're going to find. I think they even got a few stories correct also.
  20. I thought we'd outrebound them but we almost doubled them up - 47 to 24. A few too many turnovers but I'll take 5 wins in a row with three on the road. Did anyone hear about Rich Peters or Travis Charles?
  21. Stony Brook is better than they showed tonight or at least, they were better earlier in the year. I'm not sure what happened to the Woodhouse kid. They played much better against Vanderbuilt earlier this year although ND is a better team with a better coach. Warney is a power conference player in a one-bid conference. The tough part when they play teams like ND is ND has like four or five of those same kind of guys and can focus on him.
  22. More on Stire in today's TU I liked CB's comment that Stire "hits anything that moves" although he may not have meant it as a compliment. LadyDP says Stire reminds her of Joe Vukovic for those who remember him.
  23. Good story on Big Apple Buckets about how our front court has been better than we thought. http://www.nycbuckets.com/2015/12/albany-will-brown-rely-surprising-frontcourt-consistency/
  24. Probably teams that only play three or four guys at a time would be a great match-up for us. I suspect CB is saying we've eeked out a couple of close wins in the past few games. We're not exactly a dominating force (yet) that is going to go in and blow teams out of their own gym.
