  1. SBU losing today is kind of an interesting development. They're now tied for fourth with Bing in what would be the last playoff spot. The championship is at Stony Brook this year. Would be kind of strange if they hosted and weren't in it.
  2. I wish I did. Perfect day for a visit with the celebration of Champions today.
  3. There's um....no such thing as bad publicity?
  4. I wonder if we would look at a guy like Vertrail Vaughns. He's a fifth-year senior guard looking to transfer from George Mason. His situation is similar to Logan Aronhalt or Trey Blue from Vermont, he wouldn't have to sit out a year and might give us a lift in the backcourt.
  5. Good story on JI from the York Daily Record. I like the quote:
  6. Lax Lessons has a story about recent lax commitment Joe Eddinger.
  7. Personally, I'm not ready to give up "UA - UKnow" the "UA..UA UA UA...UA...UA" soccer chant or even "It's a Great Day to be a Great Dane." We may not have a tremendous identity but people know who we are. When we were at the NCAA tournament in Columbus a few years ago Ohio State fans knew who Albany was from the UConn game. Lacrosse fans certainly know who Albany is. I'm not sure it's worth it to change that. If you're good enough at what you do, people will learn your name, see Louisville or Pitt. I agree having a name with a mid-size upstate NY city might not be the sexiest college name in the world but RPI and Syracuse have both made it work pretty well. At this point, with NCAA tourney appearance in just about every sport, we are who we are. We're purple, we're Great Danes and we're UAlbany.
  8. That was a great way to start the weekend. Two wins over lacrosse royalty so far this year.
  9. We've done this a couple of times in the past. I think Jamar's freshman year Siena was the season opener. It's a fun way to start. The worst part is that it's seven months until the season starts. Dammit!
  10. You are right, and I admit that I was part of the problem in recent years by not going to enough home games. Hearing Trimboli talk about how crowd and fan support lured him to UVM made me realize how important it is for me to support the team and go to the games in person. The attendance may have been skewed in Vermont's favor during Trimboli's time while we were in our infancy. The last two years I think we've had better attendance than Vermont and been at the top or near the top in attendance in the conference. I'd like more fans there too but I don't think our numbers have been as bad as they're made out to be. At least by AE standards.
  11. A good move for Patsos. The last thing a MAAC coach would want is the academic requirements for recruits in the Patriot League had he stayed at Loyola. Seems like he's coveted the Siena job for a long time. Now he's got it.
  12. Slightly unrelated but the Rutgers job practically scream Steve Pikiell to me. Not basing it on anything I've seen, just my opinion.
  13. I agree...wouldn't mind if both kids were 4 year kids. This. Unless we can get Cleanthony Early or Carl Hall types! I like four year players also but Wichita State is making me like Juco players. I think they have five or six on their roster.
  14. We don't know the status of Tanner Gibson for next year either. The last report sounded pretty grim for the future. Hopefully that's changed and he will be able to play.
  15. From a playing time perspective it makes sense. The only thing that doesn't make sense is that there should be a lot of playing time opening up at the guard spot with the graduation of JI and Mike Black.
  16. Success is why the top of the conference moved up which makes sense and is a good point. My concern is the middle and bottom of the conference is moving out for what are mostly lateral moves. I'd just like some evidence that process is done. I'm not sure it is.
  17. So the choices are: AE - low profile, stable. CAA - higher profile, unstable. I'd like to make sure the CAA is actually done losing schools. I don't know if it will happen but it seems like Northeastern and Hofstra want into the A10 as well.
  18. Andell Cumberbatch is listed as a small forward but a couple other places describe him as an SG. Originally from NJ. Looks like a heck of a player, on paper anyway. Bigger guard who can shoot and rebound.
  19. Anyone who doesn't believe in fouling when up three in the closing seconds might be changing their mind after watching Kansas - Michigan last night. No doubt Burke is making that shot to tie. After all, the guys name is Trey. Great game.
  20. That would make sense. We should have at least two PGs on the roster next year with Evans and Fulton.
  21. I've been curious about our SUNY conference mates - SBU and Bing. I've gone under the assumption we would probably move someplace with SBU and likely Bing. That's a lot of spots a potential new conference would need to have open.
  22. Mike Wells was picked third team all state in Ohio. He finished his high school career as the school's all-time leader in points and assists. He's a 2013 graduate so I'm curious why I read some place that he's a 2014 commit. I guess we'll see.
  23. I was amazed how many people were talking about both the men's and women's games today. If as many people actually go to the games next year as say they are going to go we will be selling out our home games. For most of this game I thought this was going to be our "Vermont takes out Syracuse game." We had a rare collection of talent together at one time that doesn't happen very often. It just wasn't meant to be. Still, an amazing season and a fine exit for the best senior class in our history.
