  1. I wasnt speculating, just trying to be a realist. Unfortunately, in today's world so many players transfer each year. That's why I wanted to be clear that I hope no one does. I'm just curious when those announcements normally come from the team.

What would the team have done this year if Lands didn't leave? Transfers happen. Obviously us fans don't need to know, but recruiting and knowing what spaces we have is part of the fun of following the team in the off season. Gives us something to chat about, debate, and waste too much time.

  2. Anyone know about when any announcements would happen of transfer outs?

I really hope we have none - as I have become a huge fan of all of the players we have. I think consistency, time with the team, and hard work plays well with Will Brown, and even those who didn't play much this year could see much expanded roles in the next few years. We have seen a bunch of JUCO kids come in and not get much PT in their first year with the program, only to become stars in year 2 or 3...

    Candidates:

    • Ahmad Clark - Majorly skilled, great personality, just didn't seem to fit into the system. I could see a major breakout Junior year, and a ton of potential leadership as a senior with Nichols and Cremo graduating
    • Xavier Cochran - Was called the most athletic incoming player 2 years ago but missed year 1 with injury. Didn't get much PT this season, but showed flashes. I am thinking that with a little more development he could be a stud. Seemed very explosive when he got a real chance (Maine I think it was?) but didn't get any more play outside of the blowouts. He has 2 years left and could be a big part of the team this year, and a major part next year.
    • Matt Conway - Seemed like more of a 3 than a 4 to me as he is very slim. If he bulked up more, his combination of a strong outside shot and his height could be dangerous at this level. An off season of him trying to match the practice regimen that Cremo supposedly has could make him a top player next season. With Stire, Charles, and Foster all graduating there is a lot of minutes to go around
    • The 3 Aussies - I can't wait to see them all play for real. I'm always tentative with players that red-shirted as we have lost a few of them. Healy looks like he can be a stud but may not get more than 10-15 minutes a game this season. The bigs can earn all the PT in the world, but I know sitting for a season can sometimes make players have wanderlust (see Kyle McKinley)

Just got a commit from a 6-8 PF Kendall Lauderdale    http://verbalcommits.com/players/kendall-lauderdale

Only videos I can find of him are a few years old. Looks like he has a nice touch around the rim and is a good shooter. Very much needed size. Hopefully he can learn the system quickly and earn playing time quickly. Probably still need another big. Would love to see Maricevic, but I think he is going higher.

It's hard to keep expectations in check, but I'm already excited for next season.

Do we really need another thread about this? Let’s blame the players for their lack of energy, but god forbid we start one about the coaching staff not getting the most out of their players, people on this board lose their sh*t.

This years team went far as the 15-16 team. Did they lack energy too? That 12-13 team had plenty of issues as well if I remember correctly.

Lack of energy is what was blamed for the loss to Hartford that season...

    You forgot Eli :ph34r::ph34r:

I think Eli is done. If Purdue and Duke both make the final 4, he jumps up, but since I have them both there as well, I think I will still be ahead of him, and others have Duke winning the chip or making the final as well that are ahead of him currently. I could be missing something though.

    What a crazy tournament!

  6. I didn't drill down into the rest of the items so I could be wrong, but basically it comes down to this:

    • If Villanova wins the national championship, then it will be a contest between PaulW and Popeye. The difference will come down to how Michigan and Duke do in the elite 8 (assuming Duke makes it). Click could squeak in for his 5peat, if Nova wins, but Kansas makes it to the final 4 instead of Duke.
    • If Duke wins the National Championship then Brent is the likely champ, but Bob could sneak from worst to first with a Duke win and Purdue making the final 4
    • If Purdue wins the National Championship - I get this years crown. My only other path to victory is Purdue making the championship game, and even that could be effected by Popeye, as he still has Michigan going to the final.
    • Rundex has a slim slim chance, but it would require every remaining team to lose except West Virgina, as he still has them alive, but the rest of his final four is dead and gone.

There could be paths to other teams winning, but I have wasted enough time looking at this today :)

i think this cross town rivalry may end. Both coaches just complain about the other via the media. In my perfect world, I want TUC to be a neutral arena for both schools. it would be nice to see the Jamar 31 and logos in the rafters.............

The complaining about each other is part of the fun of it though. Brown has gotten much better at it over the years. I love hearing his little subtle jabs during interviews that if you weren't a real fan you wouldn't realize he was pointing directly across town.

  8. UAlbany getting play on the Happy Hour show on MLB network in SXM89. Host calling the Dane's his team and talking about how much better his Dane's were than UMBC. I forget this guy's name, but I liked it.

Edit: I think it's Jody Mcdonald? His ESPN profile says he graduated from Albany State...

  9. I believe it is able to be spent on anything they please. The NCAA calls it "Cost of Attendance Stipend". It is designed to help defray other costs that are not paid for by a typical scholarship - books, meals, cabs, etc. https://www.ncaa.com/news/ncaa/article/2015-09-03/cost-attendance-qa

I can't find a list of the AE teams and what they offer (though I didn't look too hard). Who is the other school that doesn't offer it?

I got the feeling from listening to WB and watching his body language that he was exasperated with the team, the lack of fire and the lack of leadership.

Ive said it a few times during the season.. The team missed Dallas Ennema. He was always the one trying to pump up the team and crowd.

Wait... So the great plan is to get rid of brown who has over the last 6 years

    - won 20 plus games 5 times

    - the one year he didn't he won 19

    - 2 ncaa trips where were showed well both times

    - brown has the same amount of ncaa appearances than umbc has in their entire history and has been close a number of times getting a w.

    - look at Siena and be careful what you wish for.

And somehow what umbc did negates that? They graduate everyone... Have very little proven talent coming back and odem is almost surely gone... They deserve all the credit for last night but I fail to see how that deminishes our program.

    3 trips not 2 :)

I’m sure the NCAA is loving a umbc/ub sweet 16 matchup lol. Tickets will be hot!

Great for tv, but I’m sure they are hating this now.

With possibly two more coaches in the America east set to leave, coach Brown could once again be the only coach with any NCAA appearances. This is not a good thing. I’m happy he and his family are set financially, but at our level I’d rather have coaches plucked away because of their success and the program become a stepping stone. Coach just seems too comfortable and pretty much is untouchable whether or not we get to the tournament for the next 10 years.

Honestly, WB has been great and the sudden hatred coming from that troll, then the agreement of normal fans is sad.

Long term, I hope that when WB is gone, be it 3 years from now or 20 years from now, UA becomes a place that is chasing the hot up and comers from stepping stone schools instead of the other way around.

  13. They have been talking about expanding it to 128 teams for a long time. Why not make 2 brackets of 64. One with teams from the top 16 conferences, and one from the bottom 16 conferences, so the national championship is the major vs the mid major champ.

If people bitch that a low major is inbthe champ game, could always reseed at the sweet 16, but that would make bracket games harder.

Dang, I really thought Oklahoma would win. They were in the lead in OT for a while...was gonna be my first upset. Instead,  it's my first L. Ugh.

I had Mr. Young carrying them to a first round win in this pool as well. At least the real money bracket I am in on another site had URI. Either way I had them losing to Duke anyway. Not a big loss.
