  1. So... Anyone know who the AE reps will be in the 3 in 3 pro tourney?

    Remember, the rules state that:

¤Each conference gets a 4 man team, and play 3 in 3. Players are their own coaches.

¤Each players team must no longer be playing on Final 4 weekend.

¤Players must have exhausted their college eligibility.

    ¤Only 1 player from a school

Players get paid for wins. College athletes getting paid to play...

I'm thinking: TBH, Lyles, and Thomas are the first 3. I thought Charles had a chance pre injury. Not so sure now. Because of size and athleticism, I could see Foster getting an invite.

  2. This is honestly one of the steps I wanted to add to the butts in the Seats thread in the basketball section.

We need the school to sign a marketing agreement with one of the big ncaa distributors. Even if it isn't at great terms at first. Make UA stuff available everywhere.

  3.

    1. Create a Sports Management LLC similar to what Buffalo did. This will allow more efficient marketing, sponsorships, etc. away from NYS contracting rules. I think they are in the process of doing this as I saw a RFP for it in the NYS contract reporter a few months back. If I can find a link to it, I will share it.

I went looking for the solicitation, that I swore I saw for UAlbany, but I can not seem to find it. In case anyone is interested, here is a link to the RFP that SUNY Buffalo ran for their Athletic Marketing, Media Properties, Agent Services, and Sponsorship Rights.

This link also has the winning bid documents, and award information. I do not have time to look through it now, but I am willing to bet that there are some extremely interesting items and ideas contained.

  4. Anyone know how much UA pays each year to be in the America Least?

I was searching the NYS Contract Reporter for a bid on a different topic, and I came across this one...

    http://www.nyscr.ny.gov/adsArchive.cfm?numID=2005456

I was surprised to learn that Buffalo paid $100,000 to renew their membership in the Mid-American Athletic Conference (MAC). It doesn't say how long the renewal was for, but this purchase happened in 2014

  5. If it were a home game I would go and if it were a road game I will watch. The overtime game against Ohio a couple of years ago was actually an entertaining game.

I'm probably not a good barometer though because I would watch practice if they let me. Like Jamar Wilson and David Nichols, I too have been thrown out of an Albany practice.

Lol, I would go to practice as well. In fact, I'd LOVE to be able to attend a practice. A lot of schools hold a midnight madness event for the first practice of the year. I'd go.

I coach coach my son's team. I'd love to see what drills they run in practice. Bring my kids to a real practice and see how much running they do. See the drills. Watch them spend time working on set offenses or defenses.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during a video breakdown session.

    Ahh, being an addicted fan.

  6.

They have a couple of ticket sheds at Fallon Field they wont be using for two years

Good point. As a season ticket holder with a parking pass, I didn't have to deal with the ticket lines, but I have heard lots of complaints about how to navigate your way into the arena when there is a line of people buying tickets, and how slow the ticket lines move.

To give credit, the shuttle buses from the Dutch Lot seem to be a good idea as people use them. One of the downsides is when they arrive, a big group of people arrive at the ticket booth all at once. It would be awesome if they could have someone selling tickets on the bus with a portable device. Not sure how feasible that is. Not sure why they couldn't also sell tickets in the old gym to clear some of the congestion.

That's a great idea. There are mobile printers that are inexpensive, combined with a mobile data connection and you can easily implement that one.

The buses are great, but the cost associated with drivers, gas, and insurance is part of the reason parking costs money now.

I think back to attendance this year, and I'm reminded about how empty the arena looked during the intro video and starting lineups, then how much the place seemed to fill by the first media time out. Yes, fans have been late arriving, but getting them in the door before the show starts and that video played should be a priority. It's a little thing, but it added to the fan experience.

Make an efficient ticket line that doesn't block the entrance and gets people in quickly.

  8. No, not the CBI/CIT specifically, but being able to say 7 consecutive post seasons.

If the team travels, any recruits from that area can go to the game, meet the team.

No matter how third or fourth tier they sound, there are still several hundred teams that don't get to play in the post season

RE: Growing the fanbase and Marketing 101

    ----

Honestly, I think that's what the first 15 years of D1 sports and the NCAA tourney appearances were supposed to do.

I see a few steps they need to take:

    2. Improve fan accessibility on game day. They started this with the Shuttle Bus (part of the reason parking costs money is to pay for that). This includes adding parking spaces closer to SEFCU and Casey Stadium. There is room to add a long narrow parking lot on the other side of University Drive that could have 2 rows of parking. Start it just past the entrance to the SEFCU lot and have it go all the way past the PE building and I bet you could add 500 or more parking spaces. The school has already been buying residential properties in the area, and building a sound barrier wouldn't be too hard if the neighborhood protested.

    3. Full SEFCU renovations are probably pie in the sky, but adding a ticket booth somewhere outside of the main entrance would be inexpensive and make it way more efficient. Could add one on the SEFCU lot side as well if my parking proposal were to happen. A booth on that side could double as additional booths for football and LAX. This gets fans into the stadium faster and more efficient and alleviates the lines.

    4. Sign marketing trade agreements with local marketing companies. Get free billboard space and give Lamar advertising or some other billboard company a sign in SEFCU and Casey Stadium. Push for trade agreements with Spectrum, the Times Useless, the Gazette, FiOS, etc. to vet cheap advertising. I don't know what CDTA pays for the tuition challenge, but I'm sure they could get more ads in the bus lines, etc.

    5. Get a full liquor license for SEFCU and Casey Stadium. As I understand it, they get day licenses for the beer garden in SEFCU and Casey Stadium. Pony up for the real deal and let people bring a beer to their seats. It would be an investment that would pay for itself many times over.

    6. Keep season ticket prices where they are for the best seats, but run promos for the less desirable ones. Keep single game tickets where they are as well, but run major promos for all games that are played over breaks. This is where your $2 tickets get sold on game day. Promos for 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas, and a parking pass for $40 or something like that.

    7. Advertise heavily on the quads and other dorms. Make more promos for it to be easy for on campus students to attend. Forget advertising in the campus center. Hit the on campus kids. Don't neglect to engage Greek life to get fraternities and sororities involved in the games.

I'm led to believe #3 is NOT a pie in the sky...there were posters here who have actually seen drawings of the proposed total gut renovation of SEFCU.

I was one of them. I saw some early mock ups about a year and a half ago. I meant pie in the sky for a quick turn around. The school hasn't said much publicly about it, and I have seen no official announcements or capital campaigns started for it. Without those things, I have to believe that a project like that is still several years away. The rest of my suggestions could be immediately implemented. Parking enhancements could be done over the summer relatively inexpensively and be ready for the football season. A ticket booth structure could be done in a few weeks if they just added a large shed from Home depot, ran extension cords and used Wi-Fi.

I was trying to focus on things that could be done now, not long term.

  10. There are a lot of potential benefits of participating. If they play, I will watch. I'll go to a home game if it happens (I'm obviously in a minority there) and I'll stream a road game if it's possible.

    1. Consecutive post season tagline

    2. Recruiting, both with #1 and simply using any travel as way to visit recruits using combo trips.

    3. Getting seniors another chance to play (Stire was vocal about wanting play)

    4. Potential relationships formed with other coaches for non conference scheduling opportunities

    5. If Brown would do it, it could be a good opp to get non meaningful minutes for Clark, Conway, and Cochran

It feels like a let down for this point in the growth of the program, but if a tournament will take them, I am all for them playing and I'll keep rooting for them.

  12. If that's true, then excellent. No matter what struggles he had this year, David is still one of the most talented players we have had. I'd hate to lose him to transfer. If he puts it together he can be dominant. My only hope is that coach does a better job of recognizing when he forces it and has a bench that he trusts to play.

When he is on, let him get 35-36 minutes. When he isn't, be able to have him run harder for 20-25 minutes and allow Clark and Healy to get 15-20.

On the same note, allow Rizzuto 10 minutes to spell Cremo. Let Campbell and deSousa split the time. Offense/defense.

I know Cremo seemed to be way more efficient in games he was at 30 minutes instead of being closer to 35

  13. 3/4s of the arena felt packed last night. The quarter that wasn't full was the sections reserved for SBU fans. As the game went on some UA fans started moving into those sections as other areas were full.

No way it was under 2k fans. I'm wondering if they only count paid attendance and students don't count? Maybe the numbers from the SEFCU lot entrance aren't included? Something is seriously wrong with the numbers all season.

For yesterday, Tickets for playoffs are set by the conference if I understand it correctly.

As far as lowering prices? I don't see it. I don't think the program is making a profit today. Lowering the prices won't help the program at all IMHO.

Cut $10 in cost per attendee on average (between ticket and parking) per game times 2,000 average attendees a game and they lose $20,000 in revenue per game. If the average price per fan becomes $15/person including parking, that is 1,500 more fans per game needed to break even.

I don't see that happening, and lowering revenue would be bad for the program.

Have season ticket holder numbers gone down as the prices went up? I don't know what those numbers look like.

I could see them increasing season ticket prices a little or adding more mandatory donations for the best seats, then lowering the prices of the cheap seats to boost attendance.

How many extra tickets were sold when you could get them for $5 at Stuyvesant plaza?
