  1. FROM THE ATHLETICS WEBSITE: FRESHMAN BRIAN LILLIS SIDELINED FOR FOUR WEEKS WITH WRIST INJURY Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany’s Brian Lillis, a freshman guard on the men’s basketball team, will be sidelined for four weeks after breaking a bone in his left wrist in last Saturday’s 66-65 loss to Wagner. Lillis, a native of Urbandale, Iowa, will have surgery later this week to repair a fractured schaphoid. Dr. David Quinn, of Capital Region Orthopaedic Group, will perform a procedure that will use a pin to aid the healing process. Lillis, who had played in all three games to date, was averaging 1.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists off the bench.
  2. HOLY $IENA I thought we would win - BUT BY 21 POINTS!!!!!!!!!! HOLY $IENA This team really is as good as we all have thought, but have been afraid to say out loud Jump on the band wagon Pack the RACC I can't wait for AE play to start
  3. Section 130 the southeast corner When are we going to get a home game out of this so $iena fans get to sit in all the best seats
  4. THIS IS ONE SORRY STRING I HOPE THE GAME IS PLAYED AT A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL
  5. The Earthtone's fight song was released last year by the University on a CD-ROM that also included a schedule of fall events and a screen saver with pictures from UAlbany athletic events. This is an alternative that has been getting played on a local radio station, celebrating the infamous atmosphere at the University. Albany Song
  6. OK - I must spout off again. You are not making points you are spreading hyperbole. Have you been to any of the AE conference championships? Have you been to any smaller conference championships? There was NO SECURITY at the mens basketball tourney in BOSTON. All your "points" re:SECURITY would apply to every facility in the AE that would be a possible host for the any of the championships. Once again, please don't go on about things YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT. Your opinion is one thing but your credibility is taking a severe hit. By the way... What happened to the locker rooms at the court level of the RACC? They were there when it was completed. The web site makes it appear that they are still there - "The RACC also houses numerous team and general use locker rooms, as well as an indoor practice facility for the women's golf team." What gives? DF2k3 you are becoming the DFFF (Dayton Flyer Football Fan) of this board. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out the Don Hansen Football Site. He still swears that Albany football helmets have the same color scheme as the Miami Dolphins. Also -Dane96 is pretty funny.
  7. Please don't discuss things that you have no experience with or knowledge of. The only state troopers at basketball games are the ones that go as fans, of which there are a number. Go to any other venue in the AE and then come back and let us know how much more secure those facilities are. Fact is, AE basketball does not need or warrant TSA type security. Ask anyone who has gone to away games and they will tell you. The other facilities are in pretty much the same state as the RACC when it comes to security or lack there of. By the way when was the last time that a RACC crowd was witness to some idiot throwing things on the court or leading UPD officers on a comical chase. Stop imagining how things are in other places and check out the facts.
  8. When the RACC was finished there was some talk that it had been designed with the idea of future expansion. I believe the idea was that space could be used on the west, east and south sides. One thing that has been discussed is building a parking ramp on the existing parking lot and attaching it to a new lobby area on the south side of the RACC. The south lobby would not have to be as big as on the north side, enough room for ticket windows, an entrance area and hopefully another set of restrooms. It makes sense that this would be a good (fan friendly) first step. Then additions on the west and east sides could be added later. After a football stadium, I hope.
  9. UAalum72 is right about MAAC teams(only the Dukes are worth playing) and the PFL teams have shown that they won't travel to Albany. The other reason we are playing this out of conference schedule is because we will be(are) making a move up and these are the types of teams are what we will be playing regularly. It may hurt at the beginning but it will pay off in the long run. Yes we may be 0-3 when we play at Sacred Heart, but this team is always ready. I can't wait for the season to start.
  10. UALBANY FOOTBALL RECEIVES COMMITMENTS FROM 21 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETES Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany head football coach Bob Ford announced today that 21 student-athletes have committed to play for the Great Danes in the fall of 2004. The Great Danes, who shared their second consecutive Northeast Conference championship last season, begin their schedule against Atlantic 10 Conference opponent Hofstra on Thursday, Sept. 2. "We certainly addressed many of our needs," said Ford, who has 201 career victories as a college head coach, and has led UAlbany to seven or more wins in seven of the last eight years. "We have a set of linebackers that run very well along with two excellent defensive tackles. The four incoming quarterbacks provide us with depth and talent at the position. The offensive linemen have the credentials to go with size and strength. Finally, Chris Lynch will help us as both a kicker and punter." The 2004 class is comprised of 16 players from the state of New York, plus three from New Jersey, one from California and one from Florida. The breakdown by position includes four quarterbacks, six offensive linemen, one wide receiver, four linebackers, three defensive linemen, two defensive backs and one placekicker. The Great Danes landed four quarterbacks for the future. Jason Boltus, at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, will be the tallest signal-caller in the program's history. He was named third-team All-Central New York by the Syracuse Post-Standard. California native Daniel Bocanegra (6-1, 190) attended the same high school as New England Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady. He passed for 1,668 yards and ran for 690 as a senior. Kyle Watson (6-2, 210) threw for more than 1,000 yards at Brick Township High School in New Jersey. All-Suffolk County standout Zach Kerzner (6-0, 205) accounted for 3,296 total yards during his scholastic career. UAlbany also picked up a pair of second-team all-state offensive linemen in Ryan Anderson and Nik Schultz. Anderson (6-2, 285) was a member of the Class C all-state team, and was a consensus All-Area offensive tackle. Schultz, an All-Area offensive guard who checks in at 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds, earned Class A all-state recognition by the New York Sportswriters Association. Cosmo DePinto, a New Jersey Group IV all-state selection, may be the next dominant defensive tackle in the UAlbany program. He totaled 60 tackles, five sacks and 22 hits for a loss as a senior, when he earned all-county honors. Chris Lynch, a first-team All-Suffolk County placekicker, scored 81 career points (10-19 FGs, 51-54 PATs). ********************* 2004 University at Albany Football Newcomers Name, Pos., Ht., Wt., Hometown (High School) Ryan Anderson, OL, 6-2, 285, Watervliet, N.Y. 11. Confirmation that women's game with Siena is off for 2004-05. Men to play at Villanova between Christmas and New Year's. Brown confirms Barnes up for asst job.
  12. I don't think anyone is writing him off. He is just better suited to play WR than QB right now. Many players who are QB's in high school move to other positions in college and have great success.
  13. Today's score was not as tough as the last time the women played NH. That score was 20 - 1. I'd say a pretty good showing considering the previous result. Congrats to the women for qualifying for the semis. NH and BU have been the best teams in the conference by a good margin all season.
  14. Dane 96 - you are right on about this kid's size. But he is a good athlete and Coach Ford has already stated that McCloskey will be used at WR not QB.
  15. He can't be back next year. He was just added to the Albany Conquest's roster after the first game.
  16. Score is posted on Hopkins website final score Hopkins 17 Albany 6. All in all not a bad showing for the danes. Danes were up 3 to 1 at the end of the first period. Hopkins took control in the second period with 9 goals.

  18. Attendance of 8000 a game - Look out ACC here we come. I don't mean to disparage anyone's hopes for Albany's future attendance figures but really let's cool the hyperbole. If we can average around 4000 to 5000, we will be doing better than most of the other NCAA D1 programs. Look at the figures of the Atlantic 10 - the average home attendance league wide is 5055 right now. Only 2 teams Dayton (13055) and Xavier (10115) average more than 7000 fans per game at home. Perennial NCAA Cinderella - Richmond - averages 6320. I know some of this is due to smaller arenas on campus like the RACC, but many of these teams play in cities where larger arenas are available. Before we talk about moving to the Knick, excuse me - Pepsi Arena on a regular basis, we would need to do 2 things: 1- sell out the RACC on a regular basis 2- move to a BBC bigger, better conference By the way I do think that next year you will see the average crowds at least double what they have been this year in the RACC. That would mean an average crowd of at least 2500. The more success we have the more we will beat this guestimate. I can't wait...
  19. I have also heard that Marvin Cheese has left the team. Not a great loss except that for the rest of the season the Danes will only have 7 players dressed for each game. I know that Brown has barely been playing seven anyways, but let's hope that the remaining players can stay healthy.
  20. Hicks left when we were facing a change in Athletic Director's. Dr. McElroy had not been hired yet and Loyola was offering a multi-year contract. Hicks took the Loyola job thinking that whoever was hired as the UAlbany AD would want their own guy in as head basketball coach. Hicks is from Oneida and his wife is from Troy originally. This move was made for family reasons related to perceived financial stability not for geographical reasons. In the end, I would still put up with all the turmoil if if knew from the start that Will Brown would eventually become the coach. He is by far the best coach Albany has had since the retirement of Doc.
  21. Once Jamar returns we should see improved offensive numbers from Iati. Jamar attracts quite a crowd when he has the ball. Until then the new players (Frosh and transfers) will continue their baptism by fire. It will be nice next year to finally have a number of veteran players so no Freshman will have to play 40 minutes a game.
  22. I agree great job by Coach Patterson and the team, but what's up with the lights in the RACC. By the end of the game my eyes were so strained I could barely see the court. Worse yet did you see the shadows on the floor. Put the lights back on. Anyway, four players in double figures and another with 9 points is something to be excited about. I thought this game would be much closer.
