  1. Another good game all around. Nice win without much trouble. Until Maine lost control of themselves. My only negative on the night was that the bench wasn't emptied a little earlier. I know this team has to win and learn how to win, but up by 18-20 with 2 minutes left. Empty the bench. We've lost palyers before (including this year) due to lack of playing time. You're not going to learn a lot about a player at that point but it may do them some good to see the floor. In particular, I saw 2 license plates in the parking lot with "Bauman" on them from PA. A long drive to see your son sit the bench even when its a blowout. Not a big deal, just an observation.
  2. Another good win. Agree with the above posts on Jamar. Hitting those short jumpers should open up some drives all the way to the basket making him very dangerous. I didn't even mind the attempted oop to Lillis. It was there, he just didn't throw it high enough. Lillis was great again. 5 pts, 6 boards, 3 steals, 2 assists. Its fun to watch a team with so many options. How many players on this team are capable of scoring 15 pts on a given night? Covington could be a very good player in this conference. Big enough to handle the very big and quick enough to handle the big/quick. Offense seems decent around the basket. Extemely strong with the ball. Sometimes too strong. As for the crowd, decent for the student break and the night of a football national championship. The Track Team is to be commended for their visible and vocal support. Its great to see a program show up and support its fellow athletes. Wether Coach Vives (also in attendance) recommends or requires attendance it is a good idea. Positive for both teams I'm sure.
  3. Has anyone seen Adeleke play. His stats are of course impressive. TU mentions possibly allowing Zoellner to play him one on one. If he plays behind him like he did Trim in the second half maybe it will work. Or maybe as we did against BU we allow one guy to kill us and just beat them everywhere else. Any holes in his game? Any inside info on the Hofstra situation? In any event look forward to a good game tonight.
  4. This is a good win. A game they should win, and do it handily. Rewriting the point gaurd role is Brian Lillis: 2pts, 2 Assists, and 10 rebounds. Siggers a nice 10 points, 5 boards, and 2 steals in 23 minutes. 50% from the line, absent Zoellner's 1-6 that's still only 66%, not good. Other than that the spreading of minutes is what struck me. Some due to foul trouble some due to a big lead. But good to see many continue to contribute. Look forward to Wednesdays game.
  5. Good win. How often can you say great job from your point gaurd when he has 2 pts and 2 assists and 1 steal? Almost forgot 11 rebounds, 1 block and only 1 TO. And despite only 2 assist, 5 guys in double figures. Besides the obvious points I also loved the way Levi was used at the end of the game. He is, for a big man (kind of), a good ballhandler and good free throw shooter and was very effective against the press. 0 points though. Free throw shooting must improve. Absent Iati's 8-8, 50% for the team. As already pointed out, J. Wilson's pull ups were nice to see and were at a clutch time in the game. This should make him more effective and cut down the TO's. Also liked his 8 rebounds at 6'1". Jimmy Covington made a nice impact on the game. I see some offensive potential, and love the aggressiveness. Reminded me a bit of Wyatt on a tie-up, he was going to get the ball even if the whistle blew. Just a nice win against a team that plays a style that is tough to watch and I would imagine tough to play against.
  6. Can someone remind me of a game in the last five years that this team played worse than today? I've seen worse losses but not against a team that was not that good. Just a terrible game to watch. 49 points. Down by 15 with 6 minutes left guys are head faking shot after shot making the "extra" pass, only for the next guy to do the same thing. Too many reasons to discuss for that loss. I think they should refund tickets.
  7. Knowing the "they just don't make that call" line, I have now seen the replay on channel 13, they do make that call. They have to make that call. It was not a touch foul, or could have gone either way, or a bail out. It was I play were he wanted to shoot the D closed without control so he pump faked and got crushed. Siena played a great half of basketball. Shot the lights out in the first half. Albany played a great second half and dominated the game. Unfortunately in my eyes there should have never been an overtime. I also wondered what happened with Levi. Was he missing assignments on D? Too slow with their smaller players? In 24 minutes he was somewhat effective with 6 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, no TO's. Can anyone explain Jamar's play in the first half. No penetration at all. Second half he scores 18 almost all on penetration. And seemed to do it at will. J.Wilson and Iati 2-16 from three. Does anyone know the Brian Lillis story? 2 minutes, I thought I saw 1 steal (not in the box score) and 1 turnover. Health wise, should he be on the floor or not? As someone who has been critical of Jordan recently, that is how he needs to play. The 3's were an added bonus that can't be counted on, but the penetration and aggression are what makes him a good player. Congrats to him on single handedly making this a ballgame and returning to an important role on this team. I though Zollner did what he needs to do. He did struggle a bit when his guy stepped out but his numbers were solid. 11 pts, 6 boards, 2 blocks, and 1 TO. Does anyone else think it is more than just coming out flat? It seems the pressing style, offensively and defensively, seems to get this team going. Any thoughts on going with this from the start? How long before the next home game? I need to see this team play well.
  8. I'm a little torn by this too. When I was in school Albany was DIII and Siena was in the NCAA and NIT, winning the MAAC etc. I attended every Albany home game that I did not have a conflict with, but as a basketball fan I attended a handful of the bigger Siena games each year. And, I have to admit, cheered loudly for Siena. At this point however, I think I have overcome my "problem", and can root against Siena on most occassions. In a couple of years, after Albany has established its dominance, I will most likely hope they do well to make the rivalry a rivalry.
  9. I think there was a little doubt in all of us. It's a long offseason to get excited and then the first chance to see them the lay an egg against Sacred Heart. Hopefully, we (me included) can enjoy the rest of the ups and not be so dissappointed by the inevitable downs.
  10. The game will be re-aired at least once, I think around 3:00 today. Great game to watch. I though offensively the team played well. Some observations. 1. Jamar played well and under control for the most part. One circus shot that went in. He got no respect from the officials (as to be expected). At least a few drives there could/should have been fouls called. Played good D. He also had a sweet block that I don't see credit for in the box score. Similar to the block on Trim in the SH game. Oh, and he needs to just dunk (or not) the ball on the breakaway. Looked like he changed his mind a couple of times going to the basket. 2. Levi Levine must stay on the floor. 8 points, 5 rebound, and 5 assist against a top 25 team. Of all of the reasons Albany lost to Sacred Heart, Levi's foul trouble is number 1. 3. Zoellner offensively should only be used as he was for the short stretch last night. That is, if off of penetration he can catch a pass and dunk. No need to run the O into him. 4. Covington needs to see more and more minutes. In the AE he will be able to do the job on both ends of the floor. 5. Obviously not in order, Iati must replace Jordan in the starting lineup. Iati is just an incredible shooter and does a lot of things well. He is a bit of a liability size wise, but even UCLA only exploited it a couple of times. 23 pts, 5 boards, and 0 turnovers. I like Jordan, but from the second half of last year he has just been almost non existent. He appears to have lost confidence from the outside. And nobody covers him out there anymore, making his strength, penetrating, very difficult. Also is struggling with the enforcement of the carrying rule. His hesitation dribble is getting called. 0 pts, 2 boards, 3 turnovers, 10 minutes. 6. Lillis looked healthy. He did bury one open 3, but passed up another and ended up turning it over. The more he plays the better this team will be. 7. I hope anybody that jumped off the bandwagon feels a little better this morning, I know I do. 8. Brent Wilson continues to impress. Tough night shooting but ended with 9 pts, 7 boards, 3 assist, and a load of hustle. His inside offense should be a factor in conference play. Showed some good position and decent moves, including the already mentioned jump hook. Looking forward to Saturday.
  11. I'm not sure if the score tells the whole story on D. Trim had 29 and probobly shot 75% from the floor. Until 10:00 left we were fronting him. I'm not sure why. It was not working. Late in the game Zoellner went to the other side and actually was effective and was a part of the run, defensively. Trim showed me no back to the basket moves, maybe he has them, but fronting him was not effective.
  12. I would agree with the 20-25, but think that 20 would be more like it. Albany did have a history of big men destroying them. But now you have a Graham, Covington, B.Wilson, and even Connelly as opposed to having Wyatt or Levi as the biggest man on the court (he fought hard but was giving up 6 inches). Zoellner does what he does. Clogs the middle. Unfortunatly, he does it on both ends of the floor. I think his playing time will depend greatly on matchups. Fortunately for him, his size will be enough of a benfit in the AE. But, if this team wants to run (and I think it does), or press, then he cannot be on the floor. Just my opinion.
  13. Wyland was pushing the game pretty hard on the last segment of radio show today. I'm not sure how many people listen but it should help. He was basically stating that this is the best D1 program in the area by far. It should be exciting basketball and expectations are high for a reason. As far as the crowd, I would love to see 3K on a holiday week. more and more students will be exiting as the day goes by. A big win in front of a good crowd will help bring more people in. Besides winning a lot of games, this team should put points on the board. And lets face it people like that.
  14. Can't wait for the game. Agree, the importance of Lillis will be for the conference games and tournament. I doubt we will see a sellout, let's hope for a good improvement over last year, say 30%.
  15. Spoke to Peabody's in Saratoga. They think they will have it. Sometimes is blacked out. I'm going to give it a shot.
  16. Anybody famililiar with any bars that may have FSN Florida. Preferably in the Saratoga area. I'm thinking Stadium Cafe or Peabody's but not sure.
  17. Great Idea. Just put out a reminder before games. The older members of the group have short memories.
  18. It does. I have done it by mail before so I'll try the phone. Thanks.
  19. How is everyone going about getting tickets for the Pepsi Arena game? I used to be able to order with my season tickets but wasn't given that option this year. Does the ticket office at Albany have a set of tickets? Despite being in the rafters, its more fun with other Albany fans. There are decent tickets (2nd level in the center) available at Tickets.com but there is a $5.00/ticket surcharge.
  20. I'm a little easier to please so 1. Beat Siena. Great season, dominate. Last year early in the second half even though the game was within 8-10 I could just see that Albany was the better team and would not lose. 2. Winning season, conference and overall. For a great season 20 wins. 3. Beat Binghampton both games (co-worker a Binghampton grad, yes we'll hire anybody). 4. Make the finals of the conference tournament. Of course once we do that I'll demand a win. 5. Increase average attendance by 20%. 15% of it with students. 6. I make it to every home game. Great season, I make it to the AE tournament. 7. Sutters wing and beer prices don't increase. Great season, I am the one millionth customer at Sutters and win free burgers, wings, and beer for life.
  21. Still doesn't seem right. $125 for a chairback for 12/13 mens home games. That's $10.40/game or $9.62/game as compared to individual seats at $7.00/game. Until you have a croweded arena there is no incentive (you're actually punished) to buy season tickets. Now if you miss a game or two you've really costs yourself. I've been a ticket holder for six or seven years now. I used to be able to get the family four pack which provided a little discount, but they have done away with that. I keep my tickets because I find the product well worth the $. My concern is that others may not, yet. So if one of the goals is to get people in the seats I would think season tickets would have some sort of incentive attached.
  22. I haven't heard anything, but you did bring up a topic that I've wondered about. Ticket prices have continued to go up. Does anyone think maybe they should wait until demand goes up a bit before they increase prices. Not to gripe too much but I also am a little concerned with the fact that I have to buy womens season tickets as part of my mens season ticket package. No disrespect to the womens program, but I have a limited amount of time and I am going to to go to the mens games only. I have posted to try and sell my womens tickets to no avail. You can buy womens season tickets without mens tickets, why not the reverse?
  23. Not really on topic, but does anyone know anybody iterested in Women's B-Ball season tickets at half price. I have two chairbacks that I'd like to sell for $75/total as opposed to $75/each if purchased throught the ticket office.
  24. No disrespect to the onion farmer, or any farmer for that matter. My in-laws recently sold their dairy farm upstate. But I'm not sure why I should subsidize onion farmers. Dairy farmers maybe as milk is very close to a necessity. But onions, I don't even like onions. Now peppers, that we can discuss.
  25. The unfortunate point is that we will never cut out the onion mucker or other waste. I think my taxes are relatively fair all in all. And if they would cut the waste that you seem to be very familiar with, then I have no problem dumping it into education. I appreciate your input and "inside" knowledge.
