  2. I'll give Kalyeros the benefit of the doubt on this one until more details are known for the proposal. Kalyeros has been very very good to UAlbany including on some of the causes near and dear to our hearts.
  3. Exactly what SUNY needs....more state beurocrats. SUNY should be folding duplicatibe administrations into each other....not creating new layers.
  4. Should have just hired him as President of UA.
  5. That's awesome news. I hope the athletic dept is helping push this initiative.
  6. I have no clue what is being assembled by the ticket booth today. The plans show gates going there but no other structure that I could imagine being assmbled like that. They must be putting something together there that is going to be moved. EDIT: It might be the end pillar for the gates. I would imagine they'd have to build that before they poured the concrete concourse so maybe that's why its going up now.
  7. Looks like concrete is being poured on the concourse level today. I assume once they pour the slab floor, all the metal framing for the bathrooms, concessions, etc. will go up pretty quickly. Then its rough plumbing, electric, hvac and media and from there finishing. Again - uneducated construction ameteur (who has never learned to properly spell ameteur)
  8. Agreed. Don't forget the parts that are open (the 2nd level) will stay unfinished in this phase. They may put some signage up there, but otherwise that area remains open.
  9. Uneducated guess: Field house is the design for the indoor track and turf training facility. Not a large spectator venue. Expansion to the stadium is probably the endzone and visitors side lower bowl or just a lower bowl and upper deck on the visitors side(no boxes). Either of which could easily be done with $10m. Remember the whole stadium Phase 1 is $18m. That includes the major excavation, site work, turf field, electronics, etc. The place was designed for easy and cheap expansion.
  10. Somehow Wagner has gamed the NEc rules and sits at 61 scholarships of one sort or another. Somebody at Wagner figured something out. http://www.championshipsubdivisionnews.com/log/index.php/2013/02/28/wagner-scholarship-flexibility-reason-syracuse?blog=2 My question is what the hell were they doing with all those rides for every year except last year.
  11. Agreed. If the 4 SUNY centers acted as 1 University with 4 campuses, it would in no time be one of the most influential and respected university in the world. Instead we sit here lobbying against each other for funding to compete against each other. Makes no sense. Maybe that also means collapsing some of the athletic departments, but is that so bad? We'd also end up with a major league athletic program that we would all eventually love just as much too and that would get a lot more national recognition.
  12. Just observing as an outsider and a construction ameteur, the way they are building the current structure, I would have to think something similar is still possible. Even the design documents have particular spots identified as "future" including the additiional level of the tower but also some of the work within the level of the tower that will be unfinished now.
  13. The actual construction isn't too far off the original concept drawings. You can see the full original tower here with the additional level as well as the lower levels closed in which is also a later phase project.
  14. I don't see it honestly...they have spun up bachelors and doctoral programs I believe...the sign on the building as well as all mention on websites etc. mention 'at University at Albany'...what would be gained by splitting? But they take advantage of SUNY system administration as well as accreditation etc that UA offers. Couldn't it just become the 5th University center theoretically? Narrow focus of course, but why does it need UA?
  15. Kayoleros (sp?) has been a very vocal and strong supporter of UAlbany, but let's face it, the SUNY system needs to change. IMO, there is going to come a day when everything gets entirely centralized with various satellite campuses. There is just too much administrative bloat in the system with so many separately run schools..
  16. I believe the first phase was to include the elevator functionality all the way to the future 3rd level - basically on top of the roof that will be there now. The press-box/suites tower was designed to hold an additional level in a future build-out.
  17. Wagner is not technically incorrect in saying that. There is a new rule this year that allows for non-counter teams to count for bowl eligibility, but only if a number of factors are met related to the number of FBS teams with .500 or better records ready for bowl placement. BTW - i understand that our Cincy game got cancelled for this same reason - miscommunication on counter status.
  18. He'll add 20lbs at least and end up 6'7", 300+ NFL size. Hopefully he'll have the talent too!
  19. If I were a Vermont fan I'd be ecstatic with this add. It just goes to show how divergent our interests are from the non-football schools.
  20. The NEC's strategy worked. Had the NEC allowed Monmouth in as a football affiliate, we would have seen Bryant in CCSU in the AEast instead of or with Lowell.
  21. Here's my issue - its yet another school without football. Most like, some don't, but the fact remains - our football and basketball programs are the top priority for the athletic department. And those priorities are not currently aligned because we play in different conferences. That's the only real reason I like the CAA.
  22. I would think its probably going to be somewhere in the $250-$300k range for a top quality FCS head coach. Plus all the perks of being a NYS Employee. That's around what Priore makes.
