1. How does this get published? I have never seen opinion letters in the sports section? http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story...sdate=2/12/2006
2. I spoke to Ford and other coaches recently. Stadium plans are moving along faster than expected. Recruiting was good this year. Kids from Florida, Georgia, Texas, a ton from NJ and NY like usual. The next thing I wouldn't post if it didn't come from the "the mouth of the maker" himself. I asked about the NEC working for an autobid. The response started out that they were working and very very close to something that would allow post-season play. I was expecting them to tell me about the mid-major bowl (PFL/NEC). But instead I was told not to worry about the NEC Auto-bid because the new America East football conference will have an autobid. The really striking thing was that apparently it is going to happen way sooner than I would have ever expected. Possibly even in 2007!!!!!! I did ask about the NEC contract which was said will be "taken care of." What that means I don't know. How this jives with the CAA actually starting to sponsor football in 2007 doesn't really make sense to me, but if it happens its great for us. I asked about the teams that would make up that conference and the answer was the CAA North division teams plus Albany and Stony Brook. The league would look like this: -Albany -Stony Brook -Maine -New Hampshire -UMASS -Northeastern -Rhode Island That is a pretty badass league. I think Hofstra would stay in the CAA as they are an all-sports member or will be soon. What do you think the guys on anygivensaturday.com will think about that. Haha. They'll never believe it until it happens. Really, really exciting stuff.
3. Unless one of us was playing or among the 27 people in the Albany section at Montana. Definitely hoping to travel to Lehigh, Delaware, and Cornell this year. It's great when the kid is finally out of the house. 11543 I played at Montana and I went on an official visit to Delaware and saw a game. Both great venues but nothing compares to Montana. Delaware, while there will definitly be 20,000, the stadium is no where near as nice as Montana but still a great atmosphere, especially for IAA.
4. Any chance that Time Warner will bump the game to another station if it is on ESPNU or 360? They did that for the UA football game in Montana. It was on PAX and not part of the package, but they put it on their own channel. DePasquale should be getting on that ASAP as well as putting a TV commercial together for the capital region. If people around here see the game, especially on ESPN, attendance could skyrocket.
5. Ummm...these are last years games. 11438 How does Vermont get a TV game and not Albany????????????? 11439 Again, that WAS LAST YEAR'S GAME.....JAN. 31, 2005....but Tony, you should already know that UA gets a TV game...I mean, you did find an obscure article.... 11440 haha...sorry about that.
6. Here is the AP story on the matchups, but no indication of who got TV games or the matcups other than those with teams who made the tourney last year. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=ncb&id=1980980 This article seems to indicate that the 11 games announced were the televised ones. http://www.goracers.com/mens/basketball/04...cketbuster.html
7. Did you do a search on Ebay yet? There are collectors that have everything having to do with college sports and surprisingly some UA things do show up. Try a general "Great Danes" or "UAlbany" search. I just did a quick search and found a 2003 media guide and a 1989 Game program versus Norwich.
8. It helps that Florida is having a ridiculous season right now...Oh yeah...and UCLA aint too bad either.
9. Nice to see that we aren't down as the play-in game.
10. Maybe UA should take this as a hint that Stony Brook is more serious about moving up than us. I don't think Coach Priore would have taken the job unless he thought that SBU was going to be a full-scholly team in a very very short time. With his accomplishments I think he would have been a serious candidate at any DIAA scholly program. Out of all the mid-majors, I'd hate more than anything to be left in the dust by SBU. We are similary situated and should be on the same advancement track, but to me it doesn't seem to be that way. Maybe I'm wrong.
11. Stony Brook Hires Priore Another one of Fordie's guys taking the helm of a college football team.
12. McElroy did mention at the alumni golf outing that they did have money saved up for scholarships. They just don't have enough for 62 full rides. But with this move they don't need that much.
13. Albany - 41 Fordham - 0 8 left in the 4th. Finally some offense, just a little late.
14. Justin Sands has been the UA long snapper for the last three years. I don't think he played at all this year, broken foot or something I think. Maybe he'll come back as a medical redshirt. He's a pretty good longsnapper. Consistent at least.
15. Haha...sad but true (Zovistoski)
16. I'm actually from Warwick, but my maternal granparents are born and raised onion farmers from Pine Island.
17. Are we talking about good old Pine Island blackdirt????
18. maybe its not fair to judge so quickly, but it also can't be said that one 25yd field goal is good enough at this level. We'll have to wait and see if the new kid is good enough. I do agree that you cannot blame the kicker for being 0-5. I didn't intend for my post to suggest that. I just meant that a substandard kicker could be one of the problems.
19. This is the time for Bocangera to get better. In my opinion, Hall should not play the rest of the season. Bocangera needs to get as many snaps as possible the remainder of the season. Their needs to be an investment in this kid to make him better. Coaches should start scowering the JUCOs and high schools to get a kicker that can play next year. There are a ton of kickers that can make 35yd field goals consistently. Find them. Hell, get a soccer player.
20. That seems to be the resounding sentiment of UA fans, but the administration is once again going above and beyond itself. I think it is great to have ambition, but we must also have reality. Build a stadium like Hofstra's and I'd be happy.
21. Ahah. The only executive on the site without a link to his biography. According to the UA Alumni directory he is a graduate of 1973. The directory is very specific including his current home address and telephone number. Maybe we should get President Hall up to date with that information?????
22. go right to the source. Write President Hall an email complaining. You can do it from the UA Website. I agree that it is poor fan relations.
