Pro-stadium letter in today's TU, by way of the Peach State. This sounds like ATL_DANE, or at least a reasonable facsimile.

Whomever it was, its a good article. I think there is a lot of people out there who agree, but who won't write a letter.

BTW, I went to the rutgers/USF game Thursday night. What a great atmosphere. If you can get 44,500 in same place in Piscataway NJ for anything, you can get 15,000 at a football stadium in Albany.

I'll post a pick in a few minutes.

Thought some of you might find pictures and basic facts about UB Stadium interesting. I think it's a pretty neat venue, though I hate the fact that there is a track around it! Take away the track, and I would love to have a stadium like this at UAlbany. I like the fact that there is seating at each endzone, especially at one of the endzones (the farthest endzone from the dorms). I've always liked stadiums that have a more "enclosed feel" to them with seating on all four sides of the field. I would assume that if our stadium is "expandable," perhaps this includes future seating -- if needed -- in the endzone opposite the building to be built (lockerooms, etc.)?

I know you are partial to UB, however that stadium is G-D AWFUL. When I was recruited there, they took us on a tour of all the new facilities. In fact, they were still painting the inside of UB stadium. The sideline seats...aren't bad. The addition in the endzone is pretty bad (both). They were half-assed to comply with MAC and NCAA rules when UB jumped up. The sightlines are bad.

NOW..if the track were not there...and those seats were moved up...we would have a different story.

I would expect more for our buck here at UA. The sidelines at UB are similar to Texas State-- A straight line. Our version, based on the designs, has more of a pitch to bring you closer to the field, along with a curved feel. It will also allow for a more natural expansion. From what I understand, the expansion of our field would come in one enzone...and the upper deck of one sideline. These things, like all construction, are subject to change.

Look at UC DAVIS-- That is more in line what you will see at UA...with the addition of an upper deck on one side.

I agree with you about the whole track thing -- it's horrible! I also noticed that about the pictures for the UA stadium. It almost looked like the field would be a little bit below ground level.

Back to the UB Stadium, I remember watching games there, and you definitely feel like you're way too far away from the field. Drove me nuts. How many Division I programs have a track around their football field (that is used)? Not many that I can think of these days ... .

The plans for us call for a "dug out" bowl type stadium. My understanding is that almost the entire first level will be below ground level. So you'll basically walk into the top of the first level.

Re: a bowl-type stadium; that's really cool. I think the "Big House" is built like that. I went to several Michigan games as a kid when I lived in Ann Arbor, and my recollection (which could be wrong) is that the stadium doesn't look that high from the street because the field is well below ground level (and hence, all the water problems that U of M has had on that field over the years).

This is most likely what we will see...with an upperdeck added (but remember...UC DAVIS was supposed to have an upper deck). This is 8000+ seats...with 2000 for the grass.
