I'd have to think that Cuomo's involvement--clearly a political act to show business coming to the State on his watch--pretty much solidifies that A) we will likely get the seed money from the grant request all four of the Centers put in; and B) we won't get left behind--for now--in a "flagship" race.

For the record, this new way of doing business for the Albany regarding partnerships/patents will likely result in us dwarfing the patent income of Stony Brook.

Now is the time to add Albany Law! Add curriculum and faculty for IP law and tie it into Nanotech. Its a match made in heaven.

I was tempted to add this into the d*ck-measuring contest on the AE board, but the next time somebody starts with the "we're AAU, you're not" we can throw this at them: School tops in money race

"The NanoCollege, which was made financially independent from UAlbany in 2008 with its own budget, spent $228 million on research during fiscal 2011, which ended June 30.

That's nearly 25 percent of the research spending throughout the entire SUNY system, which had $940 million in research spending in fiscal 2011. As a comparison, Stony Brook spent $184 million and the University of Buffalo spent $151 million in 2011, according to The Research Foundation, SUNY's research arm."

I wonder if the fact that Nano has its own separate budget impacts our admission to AAU?

If we get to over $600m of research spending a year like Kayeleros indicates in that article, there is no way in hell AAU can ignore us anymore. Unless of course they say its not really UA but instead SUNY as a whole.

From Nano's 'about us' "CNSE is a unit of the University at Albany, one of the four University Centers of the State University of New York (SUNY)."

Quick Fact: 2004: Accredited as the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany
