Psst! Got any spare change? Times-Union business buzz says Nanotech has done all this while spending only $116,000 on lobbying in Washington since 2009. I wonder how much more, if anything, it would have grown with more of an effort? Or is this all the growth it could handle for now, and save the lobbying for when growth slows down?

It was announced yesterday that the Fuller Rd./Washington Ave. roundabout has opened, less than three months from the start of construction. The flyover won't be finished until next year.

Edit: actually, it's the roundabout at Fuller Road and the I-90 exit 2-westbound intersection. There's still a light at Fuller/Washington.

They've taken down trees inside perimeter road from the science building to Collins Circle; looks like they're extending sidewalks around a quarter of the perimeter.

Turf looks done at the rec field. There's still some equipment there, and no light poles yet.

Front page of today's T-U (print-only until probably tomorrow) -

"Big man on campus: How Alain Kaloyeros built Albany's nano empire" - the popup ad on the T-U site.

"It's about achievement" Alain Kaloyeros has unmatched power, but he says that isn't what he's after. - title of the print story.

James Odato's story tells how AK got his ambition after nearly being killed while fighting for the Christian militia in Lebanon.

Good to get the press now. I have a feeling he'll be gone soon for a corporate spot somewhere. The $500k he makes now is chump change compared to what some companies will be willing to pay him.

He's making $801K in state pay, $507K from the Research Foundation, and his wife makes $110K as a grant administrator. Probably still chump change, but enough that he can drive his Ferrari to Starbucks.

Former train station to be used as part of deal with Nano - completion of the deal proposed last November (post #34 in this thread). CNSE takes over Union Station, leases part of it to Clough Harbour, and other future tenants.

Hope this is approved by those who want the University more involved with the community.
