  1. Shipyard Brew Pub makers of Shipyard beer in Eliot, Maine was good. http://www.shipyardbrewpub.com/

Shipyard is a nice brew pub, but one of the better tasting rooms I went to was at the Red Hook Brewery, also in Portsmouth, NH. Of course, the last time I was there was before Budweiser bought an interest in the company, so maybe things have changed.

Heck with it: Portsmouth is too close to Beantown...Acadia or bust!

  2. Yup, if you want to hike, and not bust out the Presidential Range, either hit Chocorua or hammer it out all the way to Acadia.

Bar Harbor is one of my favorite towns in the Northeast, but I am a junkie for towns that border national parks...The Thirsty Whale is a fun place, but more formal places are around.

On the way back to Beantown hit Gritty McDuff's for the homebrew and fish and chips; then Kittery for some shopping...voila, vacation planned!

Of course Smuttynose Brewery in Portsmouth, NH, is always fun for a tour, also!

  3. 2. Gritty McDuffs!

    4. If on the Kancamagus Highway, hit Chocorua Mountain...shorter hike, and dog friendly. Start of it is at the Champney Falls trailhead. Of course if you are going to Portland drive the extra three hours (tough with dogs?), stay in Bar Harbor, and hike Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park...one of the best "sunrise hikes" in America.

    5. Kittery Outlets are cool. Hit the Kittery Trading Post for your Acadia hiking gear!

I am an outdoors guy so I will leave the B&B question to others.

DanePound is likely to have some hiking opinions, also.

  4. I don't know...I saw the kid's name in the playbook...but I did not see him on the field. I could have sworn he was on the sidelines...not dressed.

    That's what I saw...

With a lot less distractions than the opener, I can say for certain that he played in the CCSU game; I was watching him sub in and out in the second half.

URI game? I didn't know he was #32 until after the game, so theorize away!

  5. Met with Mary Johnson, the Major Gifts Officer (very sweet woman) from the University today (SoCal_Dane, you're next) and she told me that there is a new person who has taken over the new media aspects for athletics and that the horribly outdated website will be getting some sort of revamp.

I thought this worthy of a bump, as nothing has happened on this front yet, and I think we would all like to see them get moving on it.

  6. Wait. This kid looked BEAST on video but he's been so quiet I didn't even know he was playing? Either College ball is WAY different than HS, or our coaches suck at putting players in position to succeed. On video, he looked like someone who would step right in and play a major role. Are they just playing him a small % of the time because he's a freshmen?

I think it is a bit early to expect too much, but the kid has played in two games as a true freshman and he has a tackle for a loss in each game.

One thing I noticed in the CCSU game was how many substitutions were made on the defensive side. It seemed to be high, but maybe I just never keyed on it before.

Anyone have any thoughts on it?

  7. By all accounts at the home opener, these guys look to be bigger/better athletes than the guys on the field. Especially this Marcel Ngachie kid (based on video I've seen - not sure if he is a red shirt or if he is even on campus yet - I've only gotten really into the FB program this season as my number 1 UA sport is BB).

He's here...has a bit of mohawk thing going.

    And he isn't redshirting.

  8. That's REALLY SAD for the Indians. Wow. And they build stadium with 6x the capacity of our little stadium.

The dangers of not winning (which hopefully UA does not have to deal with for long at all.)

Cleveland used to have some of the most supportive fans in the game.

"From June 12, 1995, to April 4, 2001, an empty seat at the ballpark then known as Jacobs Field was an endangered species. For 455 consecutive regular-season home games, Indians fans filled -- or at least paid for -- every seat in the house."

  9. I do not understand why Berm seats are not counted??? Technically those "seats" are paid for by first niagara and should be counted in our attendance figures????? I for one was thrilled with the crowd and believe 10,800-11,000 more accurate than 8500. I had predicted a non-sellout and no sellouts for the year. I am thrilled to be wrong on both accounts.

I thought the berm seats were counted, because there are only 6500 seats.

I think D96 had it right when he stated that UA didn't want to annoy the fire marshall after the first game....let's just hope it is a problem we continue to have.

  10. It was actually on fourth and two.

I haven't seen the replay yet, so what was that clusterf*ck just before that? Did Omar make the first down (I thought I saw the ref signal it) but they didn't change the down marker, so we hurried another dive play to make it, but it was really first down already so we ended up with second and nine? Did we think we had to catch URI flatfooted so we didn't take the time to ask what down it was or if the chains weren't right?

    Your accuracy is always dependable.

Yeah, I thought we quick-snapped to avoid a measurement, but then after a play was run after fourth down, it read as first down on the visitor's side.

Maybe it was another timing issue with changing the down (like cutting away from the replay right before it was going to start), but one would think that the job of the officials should not change that much.
