  1. Here is a link to what is likely the last album I will post before the stadium opens:

    https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/109125479176636089044/albums/5912520819876351489

    Notes on the photos:

    1) Unplanted trees near the facilities building. For landscaping near the stadium?

    2) New handicapped parking spaces in the SEFCU parking lot, with new sidewalks.

    3) A view towards the southern end zone, as viewed from the SEFCU parking lot.

    4) Exterior light poles and fixtures to be installed.

    5) The rear of the stadium, with light poles installed on the walkway.

    6) Sodded area of the northwest corner.

    7) Sodded area of the northeast corner.

    8) On the eastern side of the stadium, looking between the berm and the (hopefully) temporary bleachers.

    9) View from the eastern side, towards Indian quad.

    10) View of the southern endzone from the eastern side.

    11) View of the main grandstand from the southeast corner.

    12) View of the grandstand through the supports of the scoreboard.

    13) The back of the scoreboard.

    14) View of the south of the grandstand, with the impressions left from the two recently removed trailers.

    15) View of the ramp (steep!!!) from the southern side of the complex.

    16) View of the temporary bleachers and the flagpoles.

    17) A shot of the walkway on the eastern side.

FYI: I noticed about eight killdeer while walking (one had previously nested on the football turf), and the area was marshy in places.

  2. Anyone know how well tix are selling?

Interestingly enough, I talked to Brian from the ticket office this afternoon. He said:

    1) That he was working on an e-mail to the season ticket holders, to be sent out this week.

    2) That a separate e-mail for the "gold seaters" would also go out this week.

    3) The gold seats are not assigned yet because they have not accounted for the last minute push with the $1000 donation and the name on the plaque.

    4) Sales have been going well.

Call 518-442-DANE and keep him busy!

On a related note, I was tidying up my car when I came across two vouchers for the football home opener that I received at a promotion at one of the lacrosse games. I love that they want a packed house, but part of me is not too pleased with the idea that we are giving comped tickets in mass to what should be one of the biggest games in the university's history...I guess it is time for this area to step up and show the program that it can and will support it.

  3. I wonder if those are flag poles to hold various team flags, etc.?

There seems to be way too many in a row to be pedestrian lights. It would be pretty cool if they put all the CAA team flags up there.

Looks like there are 12 spots for poles to go in and 10 lying on the ground (2 up already)

    We need a Brutus "confirm/deny"

They certainly look like flagpoles to me, but I don't feel like digging through the plans again.

Also, if Brutus is having an open forum I would like to know the status of the dog statue at the top of the ramp. Is it part of the construction project or will it be a gift from another party? (I think we were promised a whole pack of great danes near the fountain at Collins Circle.)

Another question: What is the point of the three asphalt strips behind the visitor's stands that run to the perimeter fencing?....I can't wait three more weeks to find out!

  4. I updated the listing to show:

    1) The perfect 4 for 4 showing in winter sports.

    2) Spring championships in men's lacrosse, softball, and both track and field programs.

    3) The new women's soccer coach.

With Brown (MBB) and Marr (MLax) winning their first titles in six years each, that places baseball's program on my watch list. In thirteen years on the job there has only been one trip to the NCAAs, and the program has never won a regular season championship. I know Maine and SBU have strong programs, (and that we somehow managed to recruit an upper-round high school pitcher this recruiting season), but I would like to see some more success out of that program.

In the fall, we need one of the soccer programs to break through soon, and we need some female cross country runners to bring home a title! Without B.U. maybe these things can happen soon.

  5. I don't follow soccer but checked in this thread.

Regardless of coaching experience, she has some LEGIT real world soccer experience playing with the creme del a creme of the competition, going to a big school with a much better (I'm assuming) soccer program, etc.

    Every great coach started somewhere.

I feel you, but I guess I was hoping for more head coaching experience than one losing season at a local Division 3 school.

Hopefully she can bring the program their first championship.

  6. I missed the fact that she is a Capital District native. From the OSU website player page:

"Colonie High School Named: 2005 Colonie High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year ... NSCAA/adidas high school All-American (2003-04) ... three-time first team all-state honoree (2002-04) ... 2003 New York State Section 2 Player of the Year ... first Suburban Council player to net 100 goals in career (103) ... averaged more than one goal per match ... earned 10 letters in high school competing in basketball, lacrosse, soccer and track."

  7. Replacement has been named: http://www.ualbanysp...DB_OEM_ID=15800

BTW, 72, how did you name the link without editing the post?

I just typed in the code in the original post [ url = pastelink ] linkname [ / url ]

Now I am by no means an expert on women's soccer, but doesn't this hire seem like a bit of a reach?

Very young, and no D1 coaching experience. Maybe she interviewed like a champion.

She did play at a high level - from The Ohio State Uniersity, now to coach at The State U of NY

Thanks for the coding tip...I will implement going forward.

Yeah, I guess I just wanted to see some more coaching experience. I'll google the OSU coach and see if she is some kind of super-mentor, churning out coaches.
