  1. Final two games of the season: Sat. 2/29 - SBU at UA Tues 3/3 - UA at UVM Somehow I have a feeling that both of those games will be meaningful this season. I wish it UVM at UA on 3/3 instead of on 2/1, but having UVM at UA on a Sat should be good for attendance. Also, all games are on Weds or Sat except the final game and the one Sunday in Maine. Makes for easier scheduling. I know not to bowl on Wednesday or Sat. this year lol.
  2. On a different note, it looks like Clark has put in a lot of time in the weight room based on the image above.
  3. Thats interesting, but doesn't make it any easier to make guestimates of who plays where and how much. Anyway, this is fun to discuss because most of us are pretty ignorant about what is actually happening in practice. Hopefully the team will do the Canadian tour and we can see what some of the new guys look like before October/November.
  4. PT Battle is going to be really fierce this year after looking at the roster, anticipated ability/improvement. The hard part is Brown really likes to play his core 2-3 players over 30 minutes each which throws all guesstimates out the window. I am thinking that he will use various lineups and the person that players 35 minutes in a game will end up being different all the time. I feel like I say this every year, but I would love to see the team sub a little more liberally and play the game a little more up-tempo, but that isn't the grind that WB is famous for.
  5. Send off for Ty Conyers. Great move for him. He tweeted an image of the team for this season...
  6. I exaggerated for effect. My comment on the other site was POY candidate in his Junior and senior year, but we need something to talk about beyond the sad state of the football program
  7. Lamb probably has a 90% chance at winning this year obviously, but I'm sold on Malachi on both sides of the floor. Kid played almost no minutes last year, and was 10th in blocks per game (11th in total). I don't think it's too far fetched to think he could be a 1st teamer and a candidate for the award.
  8. I was made fun of on the AE board when I posted that I thought deSousa would be the best player on UA this season, and would be a sleeper pick for AE POY this season. He was the freshman I said I would pick first to build a team around over Healy and Sessoms. Well, maybe I had a little overly purple and gold glasses on when I posted that, but this I figure this would be as good a time as any to start a thread on everyone's expectations and predictions for this upcoming season, along with sharing pre-season press and articles about the team. Is it November yet? https://dailygazette.com/article/2019/07/23/ualbany-men-s-basketball-seeking-major-leap-from-de-sousa
  9. Why do I have the feeling that the team is going to win the game against Central Michigan, then win against Bryant and Monmouth - starting out 3-0, and there will be some excitement and buzz around the team. UA will then lose a close game against Lafayette (lose late in the 4th quarter after a fumble or interception or something) then go on to lose the next 8 as well, finishing the year 3-9. The school will focus on the hot start and the FBS win, and use the line "we are improving, and next year will be the year!" It will be more of the same, and GG will get another early extension...
  10. They are both already listed above by name, but I know many on this board like to follow their tweets...
  11. Looks like there might be a preseason exhibition trip to Canada... https://dailygazette.com/article/2019/07/18/ualbany-men-s-basketball-has-good-problems-this-offseason
  12. Looks like you need to remove Jerotic from your list.
  13. The weekend before Thanksgiving looks like it will be a good time to spend a weekend in Wallingford. 3 Games in a row. I hate to admit it, but I've never seen the Danes on the road, that would be a great time to start. I've heard United Center is a great arena to visit.
  14. barttovick has UA playing Sacred Heart on 11/23 amd Presbyterian on 11/24 at a nuetral site. I assume this is part of the same tournament that has us hosting Potsdam? Edit: Looks like this is part of the Bobcats Invitational https://www.bloggingthebracket.com/2018/10/24/18020280/2019-20-college-basketball-early-season-tournaments-events-mte-neutral-site-showcases-thanksgiving Fri., Nov. 22Presbyterian Blue Hose (Big South) vs. Sacred Heart Pioneers (NEC)Albany Great Danes (AE) at Quinnipiac Bobcats (MAAC) Sat., Nov. 23 Sacred Heart vs. Albany Presbyterian at Quinnipiac Sun., Nov. 24 Albany vs. Presbyterian Sacred Heart at Quinnipiac
  15. Per Verbal Commits, UA has offered: Jalen Moore - 6'0" PG from Olney Central College (JUCO) - No other offers listed on VC Donovan Newby - 6'0" PG from Bloom High in Chicago. Has offers from DePaul and SIUE
  16. I got this in my e-mail yesterday. I never saw anything on it last year, and I would have played, or potentially sponsored it, had I seen it. I am working on submitting corporate requests now. That said, in case anyone on the board missed it this year.... 12TH ANNUAL UALBANY SLAM DUNK GOLF CLASSIC http://www.albany.edu/slamdunk19
  17. While he didn't perform exceptionally well on the court, he was experienced, and while I don't know anything about what he did, I have to imagine he was a great influence in the locker room and in practice. Senior leadership from someone who has been there before is huge when you have a young team. If he helped the development of Healy, Rizzuto, and Clark then I would say he worked out just fine.
  18. I think that is because of how Will Brown coaches. You need to earn your spot in the rotation. Once you earn it, he has been loyal to a fault in some cases. It is really hard for a player to earn his trust in year 1, and this makes i hard for JUCO players to get a lot of minutes in their first year, and definitely affected Miller and Foster. Foster was one of the most athletic players we have had, but he never broke through into the regular rotation, and then he was gone. I'd rather have a 3 or 4 year kid added, but I am betting that the right player could earn time and provide an impact. We will have to wait and see what Hansen does.
  19. While not surprised at this news, it is sad. I always hate to see kids leave. I am not sure I saw any playing time for him this season, so it is probably for the best, but he did have talent. I wish him luck wherever he ends up going. I think I remember him saying he came here blind because we had a spot and an offer, a winning tradition, and he had a friend that went here. I guess we have room for another player. I hope they don't just give it to anyone because they have the slot. There really should only be a few options: Save the ship and the $$ Sign a 4-year player, maybe one that can redshirt and develop Get an impact transfer like some of the ones we have discussed Give it to the Karate Kid as a senior year reward for what he has done for the team No point in using it for a player that will ride the pine all year and be gone after the season is over.
  20. I agree with most of what you said, except this part. I am sure if you did a search, you could find me saying this 50+ times on these boards: Capital District fans are snobs. No one care about any athletic programs unless it is TOP level. We are too close to NYC/Montreal/Boston/Syracuse/Buffalo for anyone here to care. The AFL team is averaging over 10k fans per game - it is top level for AFL. You can get tickets last minute for a minor band, the biggest names sell out in minutes. Unless $iena is winning, their attendance is dwindling. The Albany Colonie Yankees had issue with attendance most games, but when a MLB player like Ron Guidry had a rehab start there were people lined up around the block and people sitting on the field. This area could support a FBS team, and rival Syracuse for attendance - but it would have to be at the top level, play top level opponents, and win. Anything less than that is a complete and utter waste of money. The AE and CAA are perfectly fine for us. I don't see any boost in attendance by a new conference or a league switch unless it was to a P5 type situation. So yes, you are right, no aspiration for FBS football today, but I am convinced that there would be plenty of it was done correctly.
  21. Interesting. I just noticed that the Verbal commits says he has 3 years of eligibility, so that would imply the offer is for this year, which would imply someone else is leaving, or someone is going to be a walkon.
