  1. So.... Did anything get announced yesterday beyond the letter posted last week?
  2. A league win will happen at some point, and the team will get confidence and start a streak. I hope it starts tonight.
  3. This will be a break out game for one of the players that haven't contributed much so far. I'm thinking deSousa gets more minutes and makes the most of it. SBU is supposedly the most athletic team in the league, and deSousa fits that bill. Just my uninformed guess. UA loses, but it's a much closer game than SBU thinks it will be.
  4. Monmouth was athletic and talented. I was surprised that they were winless when we played them. I really thought that this was the game that was going to turn the season around. Obviously, I was wrong. Hopefully tomorrow night against SBU will be that game (doubtful)
  5. I still don't see it as throwing away a legacy. I see it as taking a chance at the opportunity of a lifetime, and something incredible for a resume. He is a UA alumni. He graduated. So did Nichols. They will forever be remembered for what they were: Great talents at UA that were never able to get over the hump and win a championship in Purple and Gold before they graduated. That's it. No reason to hate.
  6. I already pointed out this mistake earlier in the thread. He had to sit out when he transferred. He would have been a sr. Last year.
  7. Even in my messages defending him, I point out that there have been poor decisions and mistakes. There has been issues for sure. A lot of it comes from trying too hard and trying to do it all. Again, need someone else get the same fire and I bet he improves.
  8. While some of you are bashing Clark for making some poor decisions and pushing, I want to ask this: have any of you seen someone hustle harder than him in recent years? From steals, to rebounds, pushing 100%? From the eye test, he has been the spark plug of the team. I said it before: the team desperately needs someone else to step up and show his intensity.
  9. Not sure I agree. Clark has made countless passes into the paint that went right through the hands of the big. I agree he should drive and dish more, but he is the only guy attacking on the team. I wonder what might change if they moved him to the 2 and started Miller Clark Healey Lulka Hank...
  10. The people on here complaining aren't the fair weather fans. We are the ones that are used to winning and care so much that we break down every possession and get overly up and overly down on players due to whatever happened that day. Get too rough on student athletes that are trying, and are armchair coaches on every move. The fair-weather fans are the ones that disappear when the team is down. Lose interest with mounting losses. The people still here get irrationally fired up. I hope the team stays away from the board and just keeps getting better. We can be dangerous. No reason for the crazies to affect their mindset.
  11. I think he is. Clark is still the only attacker on the team. Just need him to settle down and facilitate instead of force.
  12. UA gets mad and wants to prove they can compete this year. Final Score: UA 88 UML 77 You heard it here first. Hopefully this post ages well
  13. RE: Miller Maybe its the 10 pounds he lost His big issue right now is shooting 13% from 2. While he is shooting almost 41% from 3, he has more 3pt attempts than 2 point attempts. That was similar last year as well, but I don't care what level you play at, you can't do that and be successful for any length of time. You need to be a threat to drive and dish or take it to the hole. It doesn't take long for the scouting report to show you do nothing but chuck 3's and the defense adjusts. Notice last year how much lower his conference 3% was than his overall 3pt%. Teams learned he was just going to chuck it. He needs to get a little more Nichols/Clark in his head and attack a little more. He was good enough of a ball handler to a play as a guard in the A10 for 25 minutes a game last year, and that league is generally considered significantly superior to the America East, so he should have the talent to do it. Taking on that role would probably give Brown a little more confidence in him, and keep defenses a little more honest on him giving him more room to shoot. RE: Rizzuto No disappointment for me. He is a freshman that missed months of practice. Definitely going to be rusty and take time. I am more upset with Brown inserting him into the starting 5 so quickly. I am not sure is ready yet for more than 15-20 minutes per game. Eventually yes, but not yet. I hate to say it, but Campbell should still be starting, but only playing 20-25mpg, with a short leash. Rizzuto will be a star, but he still needs time. RE: Flory I had really high hopes for him. But obviously multiple injuries through his career have taken an ACC level talent, and made him someone that should be playing a mid-major game. Staying healthy and working hard, could make him a top level player again, but he has been injured for most of the last 4-5 years. Not just the start of this season. I haven't seen him play nearly enough to make a comment. I was thinking he might end up being a taller/more athletic Cremo by the time he is a senior. Cremo made due with being less athletic because of work ethic. Flory's "Do more" might be what gives me that impression. I am staying bullish, but the confidence that we see it this year is about as low as can be.
  14. Realize what we are saying here now: Adding 2 players that are playing significant time for Villanova and Florida State that already know our system to this team would not be enough to have a great shot at the league title.... That shows how down the fan base is at the moment. Also, given the above: what should we be expecting from Rayshawn Miller who played 25 minutes per game last season in the A10, and Phil Flory who was a walk-on that played limited time last season in the Big East? At the end of the day, those were the 2 players we brought in late to replace Cremo and Nichols. I still think we will be good this year. We really just need the light switch to go on for two of the following: deSousa, French, Brooks, Lauderdale, or Flory. I think if 2 of those guys can do something to earn Brown's trust and start getting some significant playing time the team will end up very good and will surprise the league for the second half of conference play. If only one of them does, the team will be better, but still end up losing a first round game, if none of them do - we might miss the AE playoffs.
  15. Not sure it would be much different at the end of the day. The OOC record would be better. We would be favored to be a top 3 in the league. We would still be weak with the bigs hoping that the youth would do more than they are capable for as freshman.
  16. Nichols barely played his Freshman year, then was on the first team as a sophomore. (imagine the transfer circus last summer had he redshirted and had 2 years left). Young guys on the team need to develop their D1 skills. They have been forced into action early. Brown said it best yesterday: "Only Duke starts 4 freshman, and their guys are a little bit more experienced and advanced." At the mid major level you need to develop 2 star guys into 3 and 4 star guys. They don't come to you that way. They will be fine. Hopefully by the AE playoffs, but by next year if not.
  17. Wow. You guys are tough on a young team. I'm not sure they are ready yet, but I still like a lot of the pieces. Players develop at different speeds. There may be a few not here, but that is common in college these days. I have a feeling that several will step up by the end of the year. One or two might really surprise. Brown has always been a trust guy. You need to step up and earn that trust, then there is loyalty. Campbell earned the trust, and Brown is sticking with him: right or wrong. Brooks, French, Lauderdale, Miller, Flory or deSousa could flip that switch. I'm thinking at least 2 do by the end of February, and it will be a different team.
  18. Apparently Brown is still a believer... I still say "In WB I trust," and the team is obviously still real young, but I'm not sure I'm convinced at the moment... https://dailygazette.com/article/2019/01/12/again-ualbany-men-s-basketball-needs-to-move-forward
  19. As I said, we probably still lose, I'm just betting on a stronger performance.
  20. I'm betting the team plays better in the next game. May (probably) still lose, but I'm thinking they need to get away from home. Only 1 real win at home.
  21. I'm a die hard, but I'm almost ready to sing taps for the season. I'm glad I couldn't make today's game and gave my tickets away. Watching on the phone from my sons game is painful enough. Would be worse there in person.
  22. Obviously. My comment was a joke. Really geared towards the people on the AE board because of UVM people making six degree of separation comments. Sorry if the sarcasm wasn't received.
  23. Interesting the stats the writer uses to show he has actually been pretty good and the defense hasn't been bad either. Almost saying he is afraid to shoot. I never remember him having confidence issues.
  24. Interesting article... https://www.vuhoops.com/villanova-basketball/2019/1/9/18175048/villanova-basketball-joe-cremo-jay-wright
