  1. Anyone have any insight on how the team looks and is progressing so far for this upcoming season? This off-season feels like it lasting forever. Looks like the starting 5 will be Cremo, Ennema, Nichols, Rowley, and Stire with Andrews and Charles being first off the bench? Tons of new guys: I think WB mentioned someone was already injured? Any idea of who is gonna get time? The team looks real deep based on what I read on the new guys. I assume the team will be the pre-season #3 pick - behind VT and NH, slightly ahead of SBU? I know the season is still 3-4 months away, but I want info http://www.ualbanysports.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=15800&SPID=7999&SPSID=70290
  2. Offers are great. I don't think coaches spend too much time preparing an official offer to someone unless they feel there is at least a slight chance of them coming to the school (which is why you don't see us making many if any 5-star offers). Seeing who UA gives offers to gives insight into what the mindset of the coaching staff is, the types of players and the level of players they are going after. While signings are the real time to get excited, I also get excited after hearing about official visits. Those mean that not only are we interested in the player, they are also showing some interest in UA.
  3. I'm told there is more to come as well. I'm excited to see what this year and next brings. This post should also be in the thread complaining about the increase in ticket prices.
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if the move was political. Realize the new job is in Illinois.
  5. Is it really a better job? chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign or President of the State University of New York at Albany. Both are "flagships" of their respective University systems... Seems almost like a demotion to me, as I would rather be in NY than Illinois. I guess its possible that I am ignorant on their system though.
  6. How much was him being pushed out over the bus incident?
  7. It is an interesting topic, and we should probably stay off politics, but I really can not help myself. First the law does much more than just say what bathroom people have to use. There are multiple things included in it bundled together that are bad for the people. Allowing discrimination is one of them. If the people of NY disagree with the law, there is no, and should not be, any other way to protest the backwards laws of the state other than to refuse to do business with the state, and that is what NY and 4 other states have done. The federal government regulates interstate commerce but has no ability (and should not have the ability) to tell a state what its law can be. This is no different than the Iran Energy Divestment Act that I have to sign a statement that says my company complies with it and does not do business with Iran every time one of my reps submits a RFP to a State Agency. If we do not comply, the state will not buy my companies products and services. It's too bad that UA couldn't convince Duke to play at SEFCU or at the TUC. That would have been great! The NYS ban does not proclude doing business with people from NC, it just prevents NYS Agencies from spending money in the State of NC. Like it or not, SUNY is a NYS Agency.

  9. It may have, but I don't think so. Brown publicly said that he did not know what he was going to need and didn't do much during the early period, choosing to wait until the late period. I think he sees that it hurt him this time and is pushing earlier. Contract status might affect if a recruit decides to sign, but has no effect on offers given if a coach is doing his job.
  10. I don't think brown getting an extension offer or not has anything to do with him recruiting and doing his job while he is here. He has what, 2 years left? I don't know of an extension is as big of an issue for him and UA as it is for the fans at this point. I could be wrong though.
  11. It looks like today was the first appearance of Rodger Wyland on 104.5 the team. Coach Brown was on at 10:30 to talk UA Hoops and some of the NBA stuff. Unfortunately my meeting ran long and I missed it. Does anyone know if/where replays can be found for 104.5? I have been scanning their webpage and I can not seem to find it.
  12. So i read the first one I saw - the one about the scholarship error. This one does not seem that bad to me if it is in fact correct. I don't see any complaining or bad stuff enclosed. It is just a narrative of what sounds like a sad error and mistake. He was basically saying that if he didn't say sorry he might have gotten scholarship as the error may not have been found. Considering UA finished the year with available scholarship money after Chas Brown left is the thing that would upset me the most if I were him, as they easily could have diverted that money to him. Wasn't Reese a Co-Captain this year even though he redshirted? I guess I can comment more after reading the other posts.
  13. As far as I know, is they are only asking for your commitment to renew your seats - so that means either paid in full or just a $50/seat deposit. It's not both.
  14. I know a lot of people have been complaining about concessions, and pricing there, but last I knew UA and UA Athletics do not get a piece of that action. That is all Sodexo. That may have changed though.
  15. RE: Limited demand From an economics point of view: there is a percentage of fans that will buy seats no matter what the cost increase is. It is the job of an actuary to determine the economic risks of each price point. Now I would guess they didn't hire an actuarial firm before deciding on the increase, but I am guessing that as a business school they might have done the calculations: X# of season ticket sales X $150 = Last Year's number Y# of season ticket sales X $200 = This years number If 25% of season ticket holders decide not to buy tickets then they end up with the same $$ at the end of the day. Do you think 25% will cancel seats over $50? With the Siena game, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up selling more tickets. I personally know of at least 4 season tickets are going to be purchased by a Siena fan I know that has never set foot in SEFCU.
  16. I also wonder what deal you had last year as my seats only went up 33% which according to my math isn't close to double. It's not my job to defend the department as I probably have less inside information than many on the board. I just think the argument is silly over such a small raise in real dollars. The amount of trust the board shows for the program and leadership is sad really. I guess this is what it feels like to be a Met fan? I know it reminds me of being a Yankee fan in the early 90s...
  17. I love how you assume that Benson "can't get it done". Do we know that either side has even a attempted to get it done? That's a stretch with 40% of the contract still left.
  18. Over 15+ years of Division 1 basketball, the product has improved. The teams have gotten better and have become consistent contenders. While SEFCU renovations have gone much slower than we would have liked - they have come - for example the video screen in the corner. The marketing budget has not increased as much as the die hards would like, but it has increased - see:billboards, TV shows and commercials. We know more renovations and improvements are coming: while there have been no official announcements from the school - Will Brown did mention them in last year at the season ticket holder reception before the season. What else do you want? Should the school announce other improvements and changes before they are officially done or approved? Should they make commitments that they can not keep? I agree they should say the something is coming if in fact coming, but the programs do need more revenue to keep up with increasing expenses and continue to grow and improve. They are still underpriced IMHO. Again it is a couple bucks a seat a game. Get a grip.
  19. It's a sad state of affairs when there is this much complaining over a couple of bucks a game per seat. Is the economy that bad? Are UA fans really that poor? We are still half the price of LCC. Cheaper than SBU.
  20. Have patience. I'm confident that the current regime knows what it is doing after being successful elsewhere. I'm sure that they know that with the Siena game this year, there are possibly a lot of local people that will be having their first SEFCU experience and I am sure they want to make a good impression. Give them time to announce their plans, if they have any. If I were them, I would definitely publicly state that something was coming, but not announce any specific details until they are cemented. No reason to raise expectations until you know for sure. Maybe the silence means they aren't doing anything, but I doubt it.
  21. Why would Brown consider the CAA when Pikiell went to the Big 10 for Big $$?
  22. Parking is a great question. I did not purchase a parking plan last year, but I was planning on doing it this year. Since there is no mention of it - maybe the season ticket plans includes parking this the increase in price? I doubt that is true, but it would probably make sense. No mentioned on the $iena game in the email at all that I saw.
  23. Thanks. Not sure if comparable seats to mine would be in the front of the green or in the 'premium' seating program (4th row, center court) but it looks like UA is still much cheaper than $iena. So again, best value around. I'm glad only 1 person has complained about the increase so far. The only way UA will have the budget to move up is to charge a more normal amount for seats...
