  1. The cream has always risen to the top, but prior to the transfer portal and NIL deals there were limitations, brakes and a strong reliance on loyalty to a school or coach. Fans watched incoming freshmen develop and move into starting roles and then learn from those who had already gone up the ladder. Except for the rare transfer there was a strong likelihood that year to year rosters would look familiar. I don’t blame any of these kids for taking advantage of a new normal where they can market their skills to the highest/best bidder, sometimes for NIL money and possibly a better chance at getting noticed by NFL scouts. At the same time, the changing landscape of college football has left me unwilling to dip my feet back into the season ticket GDAC realm. No loyalty from players can equal no loyalty from fans. It’s clear that at our present level the best we can hope for is mediocrity with the occasional success as the star players align in single seasons. But when your best players consistently move on it has to put a major strain on coaching and recruiting. As some of you have pointed out, we may have to market our programs as stop off feeder mills to the big boys. That’s a tough sell for loyal Purple and Gold fans like myself. I really see a continued decline in attendance overall and deemphasis on athletics. Hope I’m wrong. Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today lol.
  2. Only saw the second half, but the Lady Danes were lights out! 22 point win. Up 17 at the half, bit of a scoring drought in the third but finished strong. Nice win!
  3. I like the ball movement and attacking the rim more, even if there were some missed layups. Still too many missed assignments on D with back door cuts an Achilles heel. Beagle is rounding into form and Neely is getting enough of a taste to start getting his confidence back. I also like the way that every time SH started to make a mini run they buried a three or made a mini run of their own and shut down the comeback. SH had some nice players on the inside.
  4. Jared Verse has declared for the NFL draft and will opt out of playing in the Orange Bowl against Georgia. I wonder if he would have done the same if they were in the CFP. Can’t say that I blame him. He is staring at a possible top 10 draft pick so why risk blowing out a knee in a meaningless game? I’d like to think he’d have stayed if they made the playoffs, but the possibility of life changing money can be a strong incentive to stay healthy.
  5. And that’s that. Great job SDSU! I’ll be rooting for you. And can we get a little love for Cortland State? Div 3 natties!! Beat a powerhouse program, undefeated defending champs and all that. Great job Red Dragons!
  6. NDSU doesn’t go FBS because they are in the middle of nowhere. Travel to any league they’d be competitive in would be prohibitive. Same for SDSU and the Montana teams.
  7. However this turns out, thanks to the team, coaches and support staff for putting a quality product on the field. This is the type of game where UA has to play smart, play hard, play near perfect football for 60 minutes AND probably get a couple of breaks to have a chance at the upset. But it can be done and has been done before. I have confidence that this crew will give it their best effort. This season has been a rousing success by any measure, so it’s time to put the whipped cream on top and get a shot at the 🍒 to go with it. Go Danes!!
  8. He had 12 rebounds in 32 minutes so I would say yes. At least against our bunch.
  9. That Nova SDSU game was played in very windy and cold conditions, so I’m fairly certain that it affected both team’s game plans and kept it closer than it might have been. It was a little bit funny watching the players hustling into those warming trailers though. Never saw that….not that I blame them.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. He’s from Belgium and is listed at 6-5 260. Basically Charles Barkley size. Temple is his third stop.
  11. Only saw part of the game, but unreal shooting % all around. Interesting that only Helene and Meghan took nearly all of the 3 pointers. I wonder if that was planned or coincidence? Whatever the case, it worked!
  12. Maximus Super at the Rat…..good old days indeed. Kegs at spring weekend. Jeez, I sound like a lush….oh, never mind.
  13. Some of the crybabies are pretty hilarious. There’s one on YouTube that that said everything had to go wrong in order for them to lose. Including the bad call on the OPI that took away a TD that was never called a TD if I recall. Looked like a classic textbook OPI push off. Also, he complained that our QB threw up “three desperation Hail Marys that all worked.” I’m thinking maybe if the coach wasn’t so busy packing his bags he might have been able to watch some film and see our QB was chucking up long bombs all season. Oh well, they'll get another chance next year.
  14. I believe it is. The thing I remember is that there wasn’t a breath of wind. Every chimney in the area and our utility plant had a column of condensation/smoke that went straight up.
  15. I wish there was a tunnel from the PE building to the podium. My (then) long hair froze more than once on the walk back. First day of second semester Freshman year it was -28 in Albany. The Dakotas don’t have a monopoly on crappy weather. Snow here tomorrow as a matter of fact Woodell appeared to be really struggling. He’s been wearing a shoulder restraint/brace or whatever you call it for several weeks and after a few tackles he really looked rough. They do need to use other RBs. Despite the extra grey hairs for Gattuso, I did like that he scored on that nice run. You’ve been trying to break a long one all game and finally do….gotta be hard to slide down to run out the clock. Hicks looked like he hurt his arm diving for a ball near the goal line. I join all in saying that this season is an epic run, especially after the last two and the prediction of #11. House money…house money.
  16. At halftime I realized I had the wrong shirt on….went to the closet and put on my gold Scooby UA shirt…..the game turned around. Not saying that was the reason, but….mebbe Scooby has got some mojo. 🤔
