I'm confident if people made it to Bing midweek to see the regular season game they'll make it on the weekend to see the tourney. We're staying at the Holiday Inn across the street from the EC. Hopefully the bar there serves Blue Moon. It's a nice convenient death-defying walk across Vestal Parkway to watch some basketball.

I don't know much about Binghamton at all (only been there a few times to visit buddies who were in fraternities there), but it sounds like the Holiday Inn is the place to stay at. To the extent that there is an "entertainment district" with bars, restaurants, etc., can anyone reveal to me whether that district within walking distance from the campus/E.C./Holiday Inn?

I believe there are two Holiday Inns. One is downtown Binghamton, in walking distance of the bars, etc. The other is in Vestal, virtually across the highway from the Events Center, and not in walking distance of any entertainment. The one in Vestal is where the Varsity Club had reserved a block of rooms, and where the Alumni Assn. party was held two years ago. My impression is that cab fare from the campus area to the downtown area is fairly inexpensive.

Statefan, thanks!

As far as the Tournament goes, UNH could be a tough team to deal with if we wind up getting the 2 seed (meaning we would play the 7 seed, UNH). In their past two games, UNH was up 7 points on UMBC with 5 minutes to go, but lost by 3 points in overtime; and beat UVM last night. Even with Stonybrook beating UVM and Maine beating UMBC earlier this year, it shows that the 8 and 9 seeded teams in the play-in game can still go out and beat the top teams in the league on a given night.

Admittedly having the tourney in Boston spoiled us so you can take this with a grain of salt.

Maybe there's another, more lively entertainment district somewhere else in Bing than the one we found. We stayed downtown one year and felt like the guy walking through London in 28 Days Later. That was four years or so ago so maybe things have turned around. We ended up driving to Ithaca for something to do.

Hahahahaha! That is my recollection of Binghamton too. Ithaca is nice from what I remember of it. A few years ago, I saw a Cornell hockey game and went out to eat in downtown Ithaca. The Cornell campus is very pretty too. I enjoyed seeing the law school there. Ithaca reminds me of an ultra liberal (first (and only?) U.S. city to elect a socialist mayor, http://today.14850.com/1127bennichols.html) and smaller version of Saratoga Springs.

Finally bought my tournament session passes today, by calling. The woman on the line asked if I wanted to sit in the Albany section even before I asked her. Though I had told her my address, so she knew where I was from. She said the school sections will be assigned based on seeding for the tournament.

My better half's family lives in Vestal, so we'll be saving on hotel costs by staying with them. This will be my fourth-straight AE Tournmanet, so I'm looking forward to the weekend.

Hardly - George R. Lunn was Socialist mayor of Schenectady for several terms around World War I.

We will also be at the Vestal Holiday Inn.

Condon, if Boston to Binghamton involves I-88 (I think it would), I'd consider a stop at Brooks Bar-b-q (in Oneonta, just off the highway) pretty much a must on the way there.

At the Binghamton game on Wed., they were happy to announce that the Applebee's in Binghamton is now open until midnight(!) so it's a safe, if unexciting, option.

The apparent highlight of Binghamton cuisine is a "spiedie" (said speed-ee). I think I may have tried one once, but don't recall it really, so I'll let someone else describe it.

go to the Texas Roadhouse right across the street from the Binghamton campus. As far as the entertainment district, you have to go into downtown Binghamton. The college bars are The Rat and Sportsbar which is on State Street. There's alot of places around State Street, and Court Street and around the Veterans Memorial Arena. Or you can just crash the frat parties.

Schenectady has had a socialist mayor before.
