  1. Another AE coach resigns. Hartford coach resigned today. That makes 4 openings in the AE along with Bing, UMBC, and Vermont. These guys feel that UA is so good and getting superior recruits that they can never win? I know lax is not a priority at Vermont and is not that big a deal at Bing and Hartford. UMBC coach had been around for many years.
  2. What is it with Hartford and us now? They play harder and want it more just like the bball game. Think we peaked too early after seeing the UMBC game and now this game. Now we sweat out Sundays show at 9pm.
  3. Should not from all the chatter I have read. Win both games and we are a 5 or 6 seed in tourney with a home game.
  4. And down goes Stony Brook in the first semi to Vermont 10-9. That's a surprise.
  5. I think Zach is improving each game. All we can ask of a freshman. Just hope Hartford isn't 2 for 2 in upsetting a superior opponent after the basketball debacle.
  6. Way too sloppy after leading 10-2. Very surprised that Marr did not get across the importance of this game. Not for America East seeding since that was wrapped up but what the game means in the polls and the NCAA tourney. A loss would have meant us dropping from #5 to #10 or worse. Then even with an AE title, it would mean a road game in the first round. And a worse case senario would be an AE tourney loss which could mean no NCAA's at all as an at-large. Maybe this game wakes them up.
  7. Fantastic win. Wish I could have watched it. Our luck in OT is never good so this was great. Just close out season, win the AE, host a NCAA game, and who knows :-)
  8. We do seem to have the love of the pollsters this season. As we beat up the AE, ACC teams beat each other up but they all have very high RPI's and don't move very far up or down. Our 2 losses were early in the season and don't seem to be affecting us. Here is my question. if we win out which would include a win at Yale and another win over SBU (probable in the AE tourney), are we then a top 3 or 4 in the rankings? Last year we went into NCAA tourney with just 2 losses (Cornell and Syracuse) but were seeded 9th which forced us to the road against 8th seeded Cornell.
  9. Not a surprise that Heather has stayed. With her sister here for 4 years, their parents are a big part of the UA athletic family and would expect her to stay for 4 years and graduate also. Hope that Kaela Hilaire, the top recruit for next year still comes after Coach Abe leaving. Top scorer on Long Island this past season at 30.1 pts/gm and a State Finals runner-up for Floral Park HS.
  10. Wow! Has been a horrible job since they joined Big 10 and can not compete against the marylands, Michigan st., etc of the world. Does he think he can recruit the NYC players? Ask St. Johns how that's been going. I know he had rebuilding to do at the Brook and money talks but he should have held out for a few more weeks to see what's out there. One championship and he is out the door. Shows how much we appreciate CB for staying after 5 titles.
  11. Purchased my tickets for the game Friday online at SBU site. $22 per ticket for the last row in section 201 behind UA bench! Thats all that was left on that side so it may be a sellout. Seemed a bit pricey to me. Enjoyed the game last year with my buddy, a SB grad sitting next to me. The only sad part was finding out why Peter wasn't there as he had just flown back home. Just be competitive and keep it close at the end. We all know how tight Warney and Purifoy get on the line .
  12. Congrats and welcome to the Alumni Association with their constant calls, emails, and mailings looking for donations, lol ! It will probably start today with a nice, pleasant young woman calling you asking you to give back to the university with a small (usually start at $500) donation. When they work their way down to $50, I usually give in.
  13. Reports of UA's demise have been greatly exaggerated after that half. Great guard play and Travis up front results in a great half. Still need to put the hammer down in second half for a complete win.
  14. I agree SB has the physical talent to win the AE but they still have yet to prove the mental toughness needed to win those 3 games in March. They find a way to get tight when the pressure is on (unlike our CB led gamers). We always play up senior leadership in those situations and still SB finds ways to fold the past 5 or so years. They have the seniors again and I still like our chances in the championship game till they prove us and their school wrong. Pressure to win is going to be huge for them and it comes down to the coach. Our guy is leaps and bounds better than theirs in preparing for the mental aspect of the AE tournament.
  15. I like the last paragraph in the article, " we want to go to the postseason in five sports a year". Think they a little jealous of the SUNY school up the thruway that does that every year!
  16. Watched the game a second time to see the ND defense again. they caused this loss by being better than any other we saw this year. Yes we had turnovers and our offense did not seem to flow as usual and all due to a relentless defense that harassed Lyle and kept our middies out of the game along with Oakes. The good news is Fields was amazing and will be a facilitator next year according to Marr who says he has that skill and the teachings of Lyle. "You see him shooting the ball a lot this year because he’s playing with Lyle but he’ll become one of our main ball carriers next year. He’s a very versatile player he can carry the ball well, he can put it in the goal, he’s a very good passer. I think with him and Justin Ray and Seth Oakes and a couple other guys we have, I think we have room to grow. " Scott Marr More star recruits on defense hopefully coming in and improve the face-off X (new guys or Russell back from ACL?) and we will be fine. SBU will be good but we should make the tourney again. Not sure if Marr can schedule top teams. Many do not want to play us such as ACC teams who have to beat each other up in their conference play and really can't afford additional loss. More Ivy's maybe? How about a BIG 10 team? That conference is improving quickly.
  17. Would love to have us hosting a first round game but not looking good. Had we beaten Cornell down in Dallas, we would be in drivers seat. Looks like we are either an 8 or a 9 baring any upsets. If Cornell wins Ivy, I have no problem with them the 8 and us going to Ithaca because we lost to them fair and square. If Brown wins Ivy it is a tossup but that probably means Brown had beaten Cornell twice this season and they get the 8 based on that. Have to win the AE first. The Brook does worry me a bit. I was there last year and had us dead till Lyles goal at 5 seconds to go. Don't need another barnburner this year. I hate OT in lacrosse. Like Stanley Cup hockey, one bad bounce and your done.
  18. This latest bracketology does not favor us at all. After the 2 "play-in games", there are 16 teams so if they have us against #3 Syracuse, we are the 14 seed which is nowhere near our #7 ranking. The NCAA uses RPI much more than the polls and that is where we suffer due to weak teams in the AE, Canisius, Siena, etc.. Last year we played #3 seed Loyola(they were #1 in the polls) so we were a 14 last year. Unless we get to #8 seed where we would host the 8/9 matchup, we are on the road. If we win out, we are 15-2 with only quality win against Yale and I guess you can throw in the 2 wins against SBU as something but not enough to move to #8.
  19. Take a win on the road I guess but not pretty. Is it just me or has it looked like Lyle the past few games is going at half speed unless we need a goal like that last one tonight? Just seems like like he is conserving himself for the AE tourney and NCAA's unless we need a goal and he just takes over. Not sure if the shoulder is 100% so he may not be going hard at the goal every time. Our FO guy was horrible. He didn't even challenge Massa most times for a scrum. Massa just scooped it up and off he went. I guess Marr's attempt at a longstick on the FO was a bigtime failure. Back to the drawing board.
  20. Another slow start and we do not look like the #8 team in the country. Blaze has to make some saves.
  21. Yes they do have Kevin Massa. He is 156 for 239 this season in FO. Just set NCAA record for FO wins in career. Since Lyle is all-everything, can he do FO too? Only kidding, too many injuries can occur in the circle.
  22. Just watched the game vs. Binghamton. Not a great effort at times. Blaze was great. If not for him, we lose. Bing did play well. Still can not believe our poor face-off play. Our guy Zelen got beat cleanly and quickly too many times. We were 12 for 29 for game.
  23. We will not have a deep run in the NCAA's without someone stepping up on the face-offs and I don't think that guy is on the roster or Marr would have him in there. Does Gattuso have a big, strong guy that played some lax in HS that we can put in there?, lol. It's all about possessions against the top teams and we saw that against SU. The Vermonts, Umass-Lowells, and Canisus's of the world make us look great but the top 10 are in another league and if we can go 50-50 or even 40-60 on FO's we can win. Stony Brook has caught fire and beat Princeton yesterday. They will be tough in an AE championship game and not sure we get into the tourney as an at-large. If we win all the other games, should be okay due to a win against Yale, a top 12 team coming up. Only have 3 losses at selection time in that senario. Lets beat Bingo first.
  24. Good to hear those openings seem to be filled but there is the Texas job where Shaka Smart is interested. VCU is 10 times the A10 program that GMU and Fordham are and a coach can walk in and lead a solid group to the tourney next year and not have to win the A10 tourney to do it. Is this out of WB's range or could you see them interview him if Smart leaves?
