I watched the whole game. UA got off to a slow start, but then settled down. It’s funny, but watching the game it really looked like Colgate was dominating and yet the team stats don’t show that at all. It seemed like every time there was a scrum the Raiders would come out with the ball…but the GBs were even. The big thing was some unforced errors on passes that I think cost them the contest. Not a chippy game, but very aggressive D on both sides and the refs let them play. Lots of newbies as well. For a first game against what is clearly a good team with three games under their belts they did well.

Maybe I’ve got some rose colored glasses on at the moment, but that looks like a pretty good haul of new players. I like the RB additions who seem to be pretty speedy kids. Love Griff, but he needs help back there and we need a power back too. The QB group should have some great competition for time and some good size added to the two lines. Speedy, but not tall, receivers and any time I see FLA and St Thomas Aquinas in the Bios my heart goes fluttering. Andrewson is a mountain already. At some point the rigors of D1 coaching catch up to you and it looks like GG is making plans for a graceful exit. Despite the loss of talent, I think anything less than competing for. CAA championship next year would be a disappointment.

The MBB season is pretty much swirling down the toilet with injury after injury, player MIA, ineffective coaching and phantom defense. Why bother with separate threads?

I watched the whole thing and it was definitely contested in the fourth quarter. I can’t recall ever seeing so many “let’s go to the replay” moments in a game, let alone in the final minute. On the other hand, it was a real duel at the end between two good teams and two top notch coaches. That part was a pleasure to watch. Thankfully Deja Evan’s was back in the lineup or they might not have pulled this one out. With both her and Cooper on the floor with Helene’s calm experience and the troop of talented guards they are a tough match up for any team in the AE. Sarah K played all 40 minutes!

I had the same thought re: UA and Mullen and Brown. How quirky would it be if WB came back as a UA WBB coach or are all of those bridges burned? His choices are pretty limited if he wants to stay in the area. UA has more choices. Mullen is clearly an excellent coach and appears to be a good judge of talent via the recruiting and portal process. Even if she likes the area and wants to stay there will come an offer impossible to refuse.

I don’t know if it’s the reason, but how many times in recent has Beagle gone down with a lower leg injury? I can recall 3. Maybe he is really struggling and is going easier than usual.- 21 replies

mbb 2023 Game #19: 1/20/24 - 7PM vs Bryant

As a math major, I’ve always liked the old saying: “There’s lies, there’s damn lies and then there’s statistics.” I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone, just wanted to throw that out. Lucky for me I watched the WBB game…a terrific battle and got caught up in football and totally forgot MBB until the 32-8 start was well into the rear view mirror. From where I picked it up they were in the game but just couldn’t get over the hump and make a run to close it. Maybe the OOC and early AE games were a bit of a mirage. They lost their 7 ft recruit and Neely is a big loss. I do believe that giving up that many points at home to a league opponent is an abject failure of coaching and execution. The women are carrying the season once again.- 15 replies

Way too many easy scores inside the paint. Decent effort, but they had too many weapons.- 17 replies
