Time to Prep for Next Year

Recommended Posts

We got a gift with CCSU today...and we $iena on it. Some people want to be polite, and I respect what the Seniors have done...but it is time to move forward with the program and play our future in the final game. They need the experience NOW!

Let's face it...we had too many close calls and we were not a very good football team this year on offense. They need to play whomever isnt red-shirting and give them minutes.

And before anyone jumps down my throad...I was a Senior who sat my final high school basketball games in order to build a future championship team in the future. It sucked...but guess what-- you get kids like Mike Johnson playing hoops from my high school now at Albany!

It is time...and that's that.

I understand you're upset, but what does it matter if you sat in your senior season. We all already know about your glory days ;)

Hey....I am not upset I am a realist. I have been bantering with other fans and former players on this...and we ALL AGREE on this.

I put my sitting part to stop guys like you from saying we dont know what we are talking about. This isnt about me...but this IS MOST DEFINITELY ABOUT BUILDING THE FUTURE. Fact is, if you looked at this objectively...you would understand we are IN HUGE TROUBLE next year if kids dont get experience. We have to replace 13 people...that is a lot.

And in case you havent noticed...the schedule is tough and the league is tough. This happens to ALL great teams that have a core together for a long-time; younger players dont come here. I find it MIND-BOGGLING that we had no RB to spell Gannon when McCarty got hurt...instead having to use our touted QB at RB.

It was to prove a pt... I was a four-year starter...with three other guys and we were told it wasnt personal. It happens all the time...not just to me and my teammates...but to others across the country. I LOVE BOB FORD LIKE AN UNCLE...but as discussed today with a former Dane...his achilles heel is his OVER-LOYALTY. Always has been...and it is great in someways and not so great in others. It is time for the younger kids to get their PT and set a tone for Spring practice.

I have to disagree with those of you that want to bench the seniors for the young guys. While I'm also extremly dissapointed with the play today, I don't think you pull the rug out from under the guys that got us to where we are. Nothing wrong with giving the young guys a few reps, but that is about it. You still try to win the games while prepping for the future. And the best way to do that is with senior leadership. What's the message your sending to the young guys.."come to Albany and if your out of the running for the conference crown your senior year, we'll pull you and put in the young guys". That just isn't the way. Just my 2 cents.

As poor as yesterday was I don't see us as being out of the running for the conference. Monmouth goes into CCSU next week with a chance to hang another loss on CCSU and put themselves in a tie for the top of the league. If that happens we're not out of it.

Remaining league games of importance:

11/14/2009 Robert Morris Wagner Moon Township, PA 12:00 pm

11/14/2009 Central Conn. St. Monmouth New Britain, CT 12:00 pm

11/21/2009 Wagner Albany Staten Island, NY 1:00 pm

11/21/2009 Monmouth Robert Morris West Long Branch, NJ 12:00 pm

11/21/2009 St. Francis (PA) Central Conn. St. Loretto, PA 12:00 pm

1. Central Conn. St. 5-1

1. Wagner 5-1 .

3. Albany 5-2

4. Monmouth 4-2

5. Robert Morris 3-3 .

6. Bryant 2-4

7. Sacred Heart 2-5 .

8. Duquesne 1-5

8. St. Francis (PA) 1-5

So if Albany beats Wagner and Monmouth beats CCSU, a four-way tie is possible, with the other 11/21 games able to knock out MU and CCSU.

The message is the same as it has been since we moved to Division I: "Produce or there is at least 1 guy behind you that was just as successful in high school that is chomping at the bit to take your place."

Past performance, no matter how good, can and should, only take you so far.

Do you really think Ford is starting guys he thinks are not the best at their position simply because they are seniors ? More likely, he is starting the guys at each position that he thinks can get UA a win. That is the bottom line. i just don't understand bringing in some frosh to get pt when he isn't the best at his position.

How much experience is one of the freshman or red-shirt freshman going to get from playing that one game?

As another poster and I discussed, he has done it before. Like I said...I think Fordie is one of the best people I have ever ever met. But we all have our faults...and his is one of not being able to pull the trigger at times. Back in the early 90's it was his offensive scheme-- took him years to change to the multiple you see now.

A TON!!! This is a much faster and quicker level than high school...especially the QB position. Ask Danefan what it was like to adjust to this level at QB; he did it two separate times...(transfer from an FBS school). There is no reason that we dont find out now if Andrew Smith or Dan DeLella are the answer at QB. I am not saying a full-game...but one of those two should be getting a half.

Dane 96 there are two of us that agree with you.

First off Sat was a disgrace. We lost to a 2-6 team who is awful! Vinny threw 2 bad picks again and to his credit threw a TD. #7 was not the only culprit. Our D has been terrible the last 2 weeks. The team obviously has not bounced back from a loss to CCSU (which we should of won going away). It almost happened to me while @ UA. We lost a heartbreaker to miss a second trip to the ECAC's when Buffalo beat us by 1 pt. We struggled the following week, but came out on top. It happens and now Wagner will be a difficult game. A game I fully well expect us to play well and win with no doubt!!!

The "rep" is dead. The days of Albany winning by just getting off the bus are done. Defensive coordinators now stuff 8-9 in the box and dare us to throw knowing we struggle to throw. OC torch us with short routes that we gfail to cover.

Now to the debate: Does playing #7 at QB give us the best chance to win??? I don't know if it does. He has struggled this year and is not playing as well as last season! Our Offense is not as strong with a smaller more athletic line . I do believe you start Vinny but you get whatever QB is the QB of the future equal reps or maybe more reps. If #10 is our new QB look for us to be more option oriented. They may rotate them next year, not sure. But I would definatly split the time @ QB, O line as well as DB's.

I am not sure how this NEC thing plays out but 6-5 or 7-4 is the same. A winning season in a Conference we think we are too good to be playing in. That is obviously not the case this season.

DO ARE SENIOR's HAVE ANY PRIDE???? FINISH THE SEASON WITH AN ASS KICKIN OF WAGNER! KEEP THE SWAGGER WE ALL HELPED TO BUILD HERE @ UA!!!

I agreed with Danefan after the CCSU game that's it's time to give the kids of the future some reps. I'm not saying start them but it's time to run them out there and let them get their feet wet. This last game did nothing to dissuade that opinion.

Start Vinny but work the other QB in!
