Judging from their message board, Canisius has been watching us - http://www.voy.com/30982/

Not as sharp as we needed to be but we competed. If it takes Tubby Smith to hang our second loss of the year on us then I'll take it.

Trying to press Tray Bell Haymes is a bad idea.

Siena fans who didn't like the refs at the TUC the other night must be really enjoying the official treatment in Burlington.

Memphis is still long and athletic. Keeping them off the glass will be tough.

Kind of interesting that we'll be facing Tubby Smith. Smith recruited Alex Foster to Minnesota and then to Texas Tech when he coached there.

Forgot to mention, touch of class by CB to get Fruscio into the game. Probably meant a lot for a local kid to get PT in an Albany Cup game.

Ahmad Clark gave us 10 really good minutes with Nichols on the bench. Impressed. He was poised, scored a little.

The bench in general gave us good minutes with Travis and Stire in foul trouble in the first half. Foster played well.

Siena seemed like they threw everything but the kitchen sink at us in terms of defense and their crowd was really into it. To win and not shoot the three great (33%) or from the line well (68%) is a credit.

I thought Patsos was more under control than I've seem him although he probably could have earned a T during one his on court tirades.

#104095 [MBB] Game #10: 12/6/17 - 7:00pm - vs Bryant

I just wish Brown would play him more (Clark). Brown knows what he's doing and I love the guy but it seems like in the 2nd half of most games he tightens his rotation to 6-7 and not 8-9. We have probably the deepest team ever and we should give David and Joe some more breathers.

I'm guessing Nichols realized that and picked up those two early fouls on purpose last night so those guys could get some minutes.

Why do people knock the CAA and say it's logistically not there? If Football, with a massive roster, can travel to CAA sites, why can't basketball with it's 1/4th the roster size?

It's not just basketball, though. It's all 15 sports that you'd have to send to all those other places. Football can absorb the cost by playing a guarantee game every year that probably funds their travel.

So, I realize now I live about 25 minutes from South Kent.  Might have to go check out a game.

Make sure you wear purple if you do.

#103954 [MBB] Game #9: 12/2/17 - 7:00pm - vs Columbia

When you play against a Jim Engles coached team, it's going to be a knife-fight. It was when he was at NJIT and it is at Columbia.

I'm still not sure if I should be concerned that we were down 10 at home to Columbia or impressed that we erased the 10 point deficit in 3 minutes.

I don't know why and I may just be nuts but I'm a little worried about the three aussies who are redshirting this year.  I'm worried one or more will be upset with the redshirt and transfer.  It's happened before and I really hope it doesn't happen again.  One of them did not seem very enthusiastic on the bench during the last game when the rest of the team was up cheering big makes.  I just hope that all three stick it out and understand the long term plan for each of them.

I might be reading way too much into this.

I had a much different take.

I think they were teammates at one time or another in Australia and imagine they are friends. I considered it a positive that they all stay in the same class together and go through the program.

#103902 [MBB] Game #8: 11/29/17 - 7:00pm - vs Colgate

I'm not sure I see what you guys see with Foster. Not sure why he doesn't get minutes but he doesn't seem like a foul machine and to me he seems to score at will when he's in. Frankly, I love the kids play. Again, not sure why I'm seeing something entirely different from all ya'll.

I like him too and he's going to be good. He's helped us already and as he gets more comfortable with what we're doing he'll help us even more. I think the tough part of our packed early schedule is that we haven't had stretches at home where we can practice and work on things. Hopefully that'll change in December. I like a lot of our bench in addition to Foster.

#103875 [MBB] Game #8: 11/29/17 - 7:00pm - vs Colgate

Posted by Dane Pound on 29 November 2017 - 10:19 PM

A couple of things:

-Colgate is better than I expected. They played smart, ran their offense and for the most part, didn't beat themselves.

-As stupid as this sounds, Nichols and Cremo went 7-26 from the field and 1-8 from three. I'm actually happy that we beat a decent opponent with them having off nights.

-Travis Charles should have been wearing a cape in the post-game press conference because he did everything. The shooting and the points were great but he also grabbed big rebounds and went on the floor to get loose balls. They should watch a film just of him from this game because he did everything he could to put them in a position to win.

-Joe Cremo is an amazing player and a great kid but I really, really wish he would stop complaining to the refs. Granted, he had a lot to complain about tonight.

-When Costa Anderson is open beyond the arc there shouldn't be any thinking about whether it's a good shot or a bad shot. It's a good shot. It could go it and probably will.

-This team has played four games in four different states over the past week. They can be forgiven for being tired and I'm glad they were able to gut this win out. With all the travel the last couple of weeks, it's apparent they need some time at home, some rest and a couple of good practices to work on things.

It looks like Colgate has big guys who shoot from the outside. Might be a good night for Conway as that seems to be his game.
