Current and possible future layouts of about a 12,000 seat stadium (I wish Mapquest still posted these satellite photos). If we flip the direction, they'll have to dig out the hill for 50 yards towards the library.

Spring football
UAalum72 replied to UAalum72's topic in Fall Sports-Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey
The staff still thinks they should have beaten Brown last year. Hofstra and Fordham seem to be either rebuilding or in disarray, only Lehigh might get really ugly. If all of last year's redshirts have as much speed as some think, and we find some kickers, we could have a shot at a couple. -
A Times-Union story on Tuesday says KH is a finalist for president at U of Tennessee. I'm having trouble imagining her dressed in orange and singing Rocky Top.

In the LaxPower Weekly 'Pick the Winners' contest http://www.laxpower.com/news/stories.php?s...story=2004-2006 Albany appears for the first time this year, but 81% of the 540 voters picked UMBC. Their leading scorer is out for the season with a torn ACL. UMBC lost to Delaware in spite of UD getting ZERO extra-man ops - talk about home cooking! The game is on WMAR-TV, don't know if that's on satellite or if cable will pick it up. It doesn't look like it's available on the UMBC online radio schedule.

The Gazette finally reports on the facilities plan, but adds more interesting quotes from McElroy: Step 1 – Sasaki master plan for football stadium, soccer/track complex, all-weather lax field, field hockey, and all-purpose indoor track venues is promised by the end of May. Step 2 – which projects can we do, and in the shortest time, a decision for the new president (who knows when that will be?) Step 3 – we have to do something about the football stadium, in phases or all at once. Stony Brook’s was supposed to cost $12 million but ran way over, ending at $21 mil. Ours could cost $20 - $40 mil, depending on : do we flip it to run north-south like most stadiums, or leave it east-west? How many box seats? All, none, or how many chairbacks? Sasaki will give a real cost estimate on every phase and every facility

100 mil for all projects. Highlights from the Troy Record: McElroy announced the RACC's basketball floor, a target for countless players' knee and foot injuries, will be replaced with a multi-treated surface in late summer after the New York Giants leave training camp. On the Stadium: "We will know more about that after the state budget passes," said McElroy, who estimated, "if everything falls into place, we could be playing in a new football stadium as soon as the 2005 season." Right. As long as it's before I die

Notes from the luncheon
UAalum72 replied to UAalum72's topic in Spring Sports-Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Track + Golf
Well, I was told 750. What's going up on the lax field now doesn't even look like 200; just have to wait until they're finished, then I'll go over and start counting. As for the mutual support of the coaches, they probably realize that major success (esp. NCAA tournaments) in ANY sport gets publicity that reinforces all the sports of the entire program. A four or five o'clock ######tail/happy hour for these shindigs would be more convenient for the working public, but they may want to give enough time for the TV crews to get back for the evening news. Moderator: isn't censorship a little tight when you can't use the word for a rooster's hind feathers for your after-work drink? Can South Carolina be called the Game######s here? I guess not. -

It's now on the UA web site -
The new logo is a reworking of the two-tone ‘A’, the straight ‘ALBANY’ replaced by a curved ‘UALBANY’. I’d guess this will be on the side of the football helmets next year. The lacrosse bleachers are supposed to hold 750, so there have to be more sections than are up so far. Spring football practice starts April 12. Sciarra has gone on to law school. Uli Delgado had much better attitude and work habits this winter than last. Nick Bazan is in grad school and will move back to quarterback. There are four freshman QBs. We still owe Syracuse a basketball game, but neither school is in a hurry for it. Mueller thinks the baseball team could finish as high as third. Of course, all the spring sports coaches are optimistic. Reps from Sasaki Associates were there, but didn’t speak to the crowd about the master plan.

Have a seat
UAalum72 replied to Classof72/74's topic in Spring Sports-Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Track + Golf
Yes, Gail C-D told me there would be fewer seats for now, but a press box is also being built. The bleachers can be expanded in the future. -
DF2k3, ralph isn't a $iena guy, he's a I-AA football fanatic (over 3,000 posts on the I-AA.org forum). Ralph, you won't find too many places with LESS sympathy for Siena than this board. They wouldn't schedule Albany when they had a team, they won't play Albany now in lacrosse, baseball or almost anything else except basketball and a few women's sports.

How did this guy last nine years? Shouldn't the AD or pres have motivated HIM to take a supervisory seminar? Old school or not, he's got to know every person can't be handled the same way - and I don't mean the way he handled the volleyball coach. I can't believe someone would defend this clown either.

5-23; THERE IS HOPE!!! See Lehigh
UAalum72 replied to Dane96's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
You don't have to look so far away - is there any reason the men's team can't show at least as much improved results next year as the women's team did this year? -
Ernest was draped all over Hutch all night, but unlike the Hartford game (47 total fouls for UA and UH) the refs let them play (24 for UA and UM). Ernest had only 1 foul all game, with less than 10 min. to go. Gail Danson told me that Ayers was feeling better, but I guess not much, she still only played 11 min. Learn again had a good night Maine just better shooting, stronger and a little quicker inside.

Yes, it will be on WCDB tonight. Where were you sitting? You can recognize Megan Buchanan and Don Ostrom behind the UA bench in one of the photos from the AE Championship Live web page. The announcers were complaining about the view from their angle. I'll probably drive over this pm if the snow doesn't get worse. Definite on Saturday, if we SHOCK THE WORLD (or at least New England)

Check this out today

Computer ranking looks good, even though no one has played 5 games yet, and we'll know more after playing Johns Hopkins ( who just beat Princeton 14-5) tomorrow. A bonus is who's #54 and last -
The lacrosse/soccer field bleachers were completely dismantled yesterday (after 30+ years). Let's hope the replacements have decent sightlines and no splinters.

Men and Women win on the same day
UAalum72 replied to reeder's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
ESPN's Outside The Lines this morning had a segment on profane and vicious fans, including chanting 'un-em-ploy-ment' at the coach, or ragging a player whose parents both died of AIDS, as well as the common vulgarisms. Albany wasn't mentioned, so I guess we're not big time yet. I didn't like the Hawk in the home stands, but then all mascots annoy me. Troy Records says Harrison kept UH in the locker room for 90 min. after the game, it must still be a disgrace to lose to Albany.
