  1. Defense wasn't really the problem in the first UVM game as Coppenrath didn't really go off. The problem was Albany couldn't score and turned the ball over a ton of times. If we could take of those two things that would have been a much more interesting game.
  2. On the radio and coaches show they've been talking about Levi's countdown to 1,000. I think he needs 12 on Wednesday to reach it. Just looking at the stats this year, Jamar is under 100 points away from a 1,000 also. Even if he doesn't get it that's pretty amazing considering it's only his second full season.
  3. He certainly doesn't force any shots. He's shooting over 60% from the field. We've talked about his defense all year long. He was the player guest of Wyland's show this week and said he was never really known for his defense. He said he just tries to give the team whatever they need in a particular game. I don't know how many freshman you'll hear making that statement. I know I'm not the only Lillis fan. There are times where I'd like him to be a little more selfish in getting his shot but he certainly knows how to take care of the ball. He and Levi are the only two regular players with a positive assist to turnover ratio.
  4. I was saying to myself when Lucious pulled down a rebound late in the game, "it seems like he's had alot of rebounds tonight." He did-11 boards and 14 points for I think his first double-double at UA. I thought there was more of a crowd than listed 2214. Might have been because the Rowdies were so loud. Nice to see more minutes for Wyatt. I thought he did a good job of frustrating the Maine big men and not letting them get to their spots. Flavin was having a field day until he went in. Jamar 20 pts, 5 assists, 1 turnover, 1 block and 1 steal. Levi had another good game with 12 and 8 rebounds. Lousy free throw shooting by both teams, especially Maine. Danes shot 59% from the line. I'm not sure if they were trying to drive Brown crazy at the end by trying to let Maine back in or it was an accident. I'd like to see them get some baskets in that situation and close the door tight.
  5. Jamar's early fouls in the Bing game were almost an exact copy of what happened against Northeastern at home. Two early charging fouls within the first 5 minutes. I wonder if sometimes he comes into certain games too fired up and wants to make something happen by going to the rim. Generally what's even worse is that he is such a terrific defender on the ball handler and he can't be as aggressive when playing with the fouls.
  6. Aiming for consistency-TU Danes in need of 'W'-Troy Record
  7. I think the "other" kid on his team is going to Mizzouri. I can't say much about a player I've never seen but Chicago high school basketball seems like another world in terms of talent and competition.
  8. The talk of being a preseason favorite next year makes me unconfortable too. Perhaps it's what Daneman would call "loseritis" from the last few years. I don't think it's unfounded though, this team should be really tough next year. In watching the top teams this years there is something to be said for guys playing together for an extended period of time and learning a coaches system. Vermont (C-rath, Sorrentine, Hehn, etc), Northeastern (Barea, Barnes, Kelly, Davis) and BU (Carr, Bell, Gardner, etc) have all played together for two or more years under the same coaches system. Freshman can come in and fall into one role while everyone around them has a very good grasp on what the coach is trying to do. Albany is much different. They are playing a totally different style from last year with all new pieces. They should be a much more confident, complete team next year. While I'm dissapointing with the Bing loss I'm not going to jump off any bridges over it. For the last few years Bing has had a huge advantage in front court depth over UA which they have done a great job exploiting. They can clutch, grab and be physical and not care if guys get called for fouls because they can bring someone just as big in off the bench. For Albany once Zoellner goes out were are really undersized, Q is a terrific athlete but Bing can just manhandle him. It's not a great matchup for us this year but they lose alot of beef next year (Billing, Heredian)
  9. I think there are three scholorships open for next year-Wyatts, Perry and Q's. Connelly will get one and Covington so there is one free by my count. Covington was being recruiting to sign during the fall, September and October. I don't think they would know anything about Dyson then since he had hardly started practicing. I thought they would bring in two big guys either way because they were losing Wyatt and Q.
  10. While I didn't hear the show UVM coach Tom Brennan was on Mike and the Mad Dog the other day. Apparently Brennan was asked who he thought would win the AE next year and he said Albany. M+MD were familiar with us from Giant Camp. Nice to see he doesn't hold a grudge and hopefuly if he is on ESPN next year as an anaylist he remembers us then.
  11. Playoff started for Jimmy Covington's team also. Morgan Park 58, Lane Tech 33 Host Morgan Park (9-13) prevailed in the opening round as Jimmy Covington tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  12. The third time this year they've taken a two game winning streak and then thrown in a clunker. Disappointing and this is what seperates teams at the top from teams in the middle of the pack. Taking nothing away from Bing who is playing really well. I guess those calls to fire Walker are going to stop.
  13. Terrible first half sinks Great Danes-TU BU gains confidence with victory-Press and Sun Bulletin
  14. 1. I was very happy with the outcome of the Schenectady-CBA game. Wish I could have made it down to the Pepsi. I thought there would be a huge CBA crowd down there and was glad to hear the Schenectady players say the crowd helped carry them-not such a hostile crowd after all. 2. The NU/BU crowd have brainwashed me against BC. Watching the Notre Dame-BC game last night I was surprised to find myself pulling for Notre Dame. Notre Dame! I don't know what came over me. 3. Cherry-picking. I was talking today about Brian Lillis with someone who watched the Hartford game on TV. He said Lillis was a nice player but he got alot of points cherry picking before the defense got back. I realize it's an old term and not many people use it anymore but doesn't cherry-picking usually mean you don't go back on defense, stay on the offensive end of the court and then get a pass ahead for an easy basket? What Lillis does is play D and then sprint upcourt ahead of the defense. I don't know if that has another name other then "hustle." 4. On the midmajority website they got a letter from an Albany alum. He discusses Albany's improvement and provides a link to the BPF. Pretty good stuff. Mid Majority.
  15. I know you don't need any encouragement asking about the stadium so I won't bother. Maybe you could find out about the QBs from last years recruiting class + Anything about Cambell and Gundmndsen's pro future.
  16. I have to say this thread is amusing the hell out of me. On the official UA athletics site I don't see a mention of "Lady Danes". Although on the promotion material for the BPG the university site does say the "Lady Danes tip off at 4 p.m." On the coaches show Wyland used to do a Burger King question sent in by a viewer. If he still does it maybe we can have him ask Trina Patterson what they should be called. Hopefully in a few weeks we can call them the "America East Champions." Continuing with things that amused me I thought this guy was pretty funny.
  17. Danes mark new territory -TU Hailey returns to early form-Press and Sun Bulletin Jordan may be getting touch back-Troy Record
  18. This is a pretty entertaing thread. I'm surprised to see that "Danettes" weren't mentioned. Great win the the women who've won four of their last five. Still very much alive for the 3rd seed at the tourney and possibly the second if Hartford comes apart down the stretch. BTW here's the game story from the Bing paper. Albany beats BU women with late shot-Press and Sun Bulletin
  19. Thanks. It's an idea stolen from sports bars. I just remember yesterday that I forgot to go back and take the flyers down.
  20. Good story in today's Bing paper about Jen Schumacher. Point's Schumacher comes home to face Bearcats-Bing Press and Sun Bulletin
  21. I don't think we can forget we needed a comeback at home to beat this team. They're better than their record indicates (although erratic) and have played a tough schedule so far including playing most of the top teams in conference early on. They're only slightly behind us in RPI and are favored to win on Wednesday according to Pomeroy. I think this is a game if where if you look at the 4-8 conference record and think all you have to do is show up and win the Danes will get beat. In the games against them I've seen so far Bing has seemed to put a premium on trying to slow down Jamar, generally by clutching, grabbing and knocking him around whenever possible. I'd love to see him run his man into some Zoellner/Wyatt picks out high to try and get some space and maybe send a physical message of their own. I realize there is another thread about the upcoming Vermont game. As much fun as the Vermont game could be, the upcoming games against Bing and Maine are more important in terms of conference position.
  22. I was surprised to see that the Eagles starting center Hank Fraley went to school at Robert Morris. Makes you think it's not that far fetched for an Albany guy to catch on in the NFL.
  23. Not a great scenario if it plays out. Danes at Bing in front of 5,000 mostly Bearcats fans for the opening game of the tourney. Still alot of things that can happen between now and then and UMBC is also in the mix although they have a few tough games as well. Danes can help their own cause by hanging another L on the Bearcats on Weds.
  24. Welcome to the Board Play Fair! I agree with DaneFan2K3 that there probably are not alot of posters knowledgable about track. That can certainly change if we do get some posters who follow track and keep us in the know. Much in the same way alot of us didn't know much about lacrosse but there were several posters who knew something about it and got the rest of us interested. In our own defense if you look through the archives we have followed Rob Caracciolo at the olympics and Teresa Covert and Brandon Howlett at the NCAAs. I know I tend to follow UA track alum when they compete in local events.
