From Mark's Blog:

In a move that seems appropriate for a team with seven first-year players, the UAlbany men’s basketball team has a brand-new locker room in SEFCU Arena this season.

The Great Danes have already relocated from their old, more-cramped quarters on the court level to their new digs one floor up.

The locker room has a lounge, a plasma television, video games and computers for players to do their homework. The lockers are made of oak.

UAlbany paid for the project through private fundraising and guarantee money from the opener at Villanova Nov. 14.

make you think that if they can get a nice new locker room, I think if alumni and big-pay games can help bring a new scoreboard in sooner or later.

Walking past the football field today, for the first time I could see from across the field that the visitors' bleachers are VISIBLY rusting - large patches of brown seats. Wouldn't want to sit on those in the rain. Something HAS to be done within two years, or the T-U will have a front-page story - 'Bleachers condemned'

They have been dangerous for years IMO. How long do the University wait for stadium funding before they suck it up and just upgrade University Field?

Question: How much do you think bleachers exactly like Chula HS, but without press box, and excluding any excavation costs, locker rooms, bathrooms.... only for the actual bleachers themselves.

Question about CHula Vista: How much do you think bleachers exactly like chula vista has, but without the press box, would be? Exclude any excavation costs, locker rooms, bathrooms.... only for the actual bleachers themselves.

I would guess about 5-7 million.

Ouch, I was thinking for a quote maybe a fifth of your estimate...

I was looking at the wrong picture I think.

If you are talking about this:

then I'm thinking more like 1-2 million, tops.

I'm not sure what pic I was looking at, but its no longer up there.

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about.... I was on an editing frenzy when you posted I think.

I would think we'd have multiple millions in the stadium fund by now. If funding failed to go through this budget, then I'd say spend a million or two, slap down something resembling Chula Vista's bleachers on University field's current visitor's side.... make it the Great Dane sideline.... and continue requesting funding for a multi purpose stadium. When we get the funding for the MPS, then we use the upgraded University field for soccer and track. This way, we aren't upgrading too much, for government officials to claim we already have a substantial stadium facility. We can't upgrade toooooo much for this reason.

that's what I've been saying for a year now. Check out this new high school setup in Middletown, NY. They did everything (high-tech world class track, baseball & softball fields, football stands, HD jumbotron, pool, multipurpose field, field turf football field, etc. for under $16 million) (click the link). Its done and used and I'm trying to find some pictures now of the opening night.

The website won't let me copy the pics but if you go here: http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...gory=SPORTS3150 and scroll down about half-way to 9/19/08 photo gallery "Middletown Sports Complex Opens" you can open the photogallery.

And I'd like to add that this is Middletown NEW YORK

Not some football hotbed. Its 2 hours directly south of Albany. A town that hasn't had a winning football season in over 10 years. The community realized that their athletics were important to education and voted for it.

Oh and BTW, it didn't cost the school district a dime. The state paid for it in its entirety.

Yeah, I know you're also one of the big supporters of getting something established so we at least can present something respectable for our football program immediately.

Damn, talk about stepping up and getting support! From the State as well.

How many seats are in the bleachers on the football field?

I can't find the photo gallary of middletown opening the complex..

Edit: found it... I didn't realize there was a photo gallery section, under the video gallery section.

Edit: Damn it looks nice... I'm starting to get pissed (or should say that I'm remaining equally as pissed as I've been)... High schoolers getting a facility like that when NYS can't even get's its $iena together to take care of its University Centers.

I need to plan my driving routes so they don't take me past high schools anymore. Seeing Middletown New York’s football stadium in relation to a state university center like Albany is just depressing.

I lived in Duchess County for a while and I know I’ve seen nice high school stadiums in New York. Its not just Texas, California, Michigan or Florida that support student athletics, New York does as well (in places).

I hope UA looks at its finances and builds the nicest complex it can now. It may not be what UA deserves but get something together. Just be smart about it and give yourself some room for planned growth.
