Good to see Canestrari will be a part of the ceremony.

Anyone think that the business building will actually fit in and look good with the entry plaza and university hall? If that's the design that's going to be used.

I have some serious doubts. It looks like a good chunk of cement would be placed in front for the walkway . Me no likey! No more cement!

Any views?

The Entry Plaza dedication ceremony is Tuesday, August 26 at 12:15 PM. Assemblyman Canestrari is the Guest of Honor and will throw the switch to turn the fountain on

Anyone plan on keeping a long-standing UA tradition alive by running through the new fountain at the dedication ceremony :P

I think that design looks pretty dated. It looks more like a public library then a school of business. I think it should look something like this:

If anything, your picture looks dated, with the brick and cement trying to look like 19th-century buildings but without any curves, ornamentation, or style - a trend that's been around for 15-20 years now.

It also would clash with the rest of the podium. No brick on the main campus!

I'm not saying it has to be brick, but I think the structure and shape is more appealing then the other design. I guess I would rather see something more along the lines of the Science Library and the new Administration building then whats on that one drawing. But thats just my opinion.

I agree fully. I think the design of that building is terrible at best. I hope they can come up with something better

Certainly the brick building's design is much more attractive, seeing that the proposed design is butt ugly.

But, please no bricks and limited cement on the main campus. That design looks like it was sketched by a freshman art school student.

I think they need to ditch that design and start over. IMO it needs to complement University Hall somewhat, having the entry area mesh together.

Is there any ONE person in charge when the University works with the architect and tells them what the University wants and what we are looking for?

If not, maybe having someone to head a NEW CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN position will guide the appearance of our main campus in the best direction.

The life science building and University Hall do have similarities, following a Glass theme, although I like U Hall quite more. The business building design should be inspired somehow by U Hall.

Without going back, anyone know offhand who designed U Hall, and who is contracted to designed and construct the business building?

Gwathmey-Seigel Architects designed University Hall.

I'm looking for information on whom is associated with designing the business building.

UPDATE:

Interim President George Philip asked me to let you know that the

drawing you have is merely an early concept design. There is a process

in place to determine the design of the new School of Business Building

and many members of the University community will have input into the

final decision.

Thank you very much for your interest.

Office of Facilities Management would probably farm out a project of this size, but I bet they're a big part of the process for choosing the architect and approving the design.

2nd Update:

Great to see Canestrari there...he is my rep so I'm gonna have to make sure I do my part to keep him in office although I do have some misgivings about his policies but that's a different discussion for a different day.

For us to get a stadium and not get kicked to the curb in any flagship discussion we'll need his support. He was the only one from what I remember to publicly come out and go on record in support of UA being mentioned with the other flagship schools and he was also on board for the football stadium funding. He is one friend we do have in the state legislature.
