CAA looking for two full members?

Heard today that SBU to CAA is a DONE DEAL...BU is trying like hell to join them. We/UA not even on the radar...sad day!

 

 

Not surprising. I agree, UAlbany was never on the radar.

 

This decision is a decade in the making. We didn't follow SBU to the Big South. We're not playing FBS teams. We blundered a new stadium for years. SBU is AAU and has some powerful advantages over UA but that wasn't the death nail for UA. What killed us was small time thinking, inablity to persuade legislators/alumni/faculty and an ability to close the deal.

 

Upon news of SBU's move to the CAA, UA should announce a search to find our next AD. We blundered the last 10 years. We can't do that again.

Couldn't agree more...we'll see if what I was told is true or not and if it is...UA needs to find a new AD to go along with the new president. This has been a long STRING of blunders and blow opportunities. We both started in the same place when we went D1...look at them and look at us. The brand new stadium that is going up certainly softens the blow but still...we have fallen WAYYY off the pace, time for new leadership.

Albany should go full scholly under any circumstance no later than 2013. Stony Brook's gamble with the Big South now seem less of a gamble and more of a smart move. We're not getting into the CAA. Options in order of preference:

 

1 NEC but only if they go full scholly. We have an agreement in blood

2 Big South. Back fill Stony Brook if NEC is going nowhere

3 Independent. Better than limited scholly NEC

 

Line up 1 or 2 FBS per year. Follow SBU's guidance.

Late last night I got some conflicting information...I've heard two different things directly in contrast with each other. As for where was it said...??? Really??? Did you think that discussions like this that are not completed would be posted in the Newsday? Come on...doesn't mean information isn't leaking out.

It will take years. But...

 

1. REALLY CONNECT WITH THE COMMUNITY. Why are there not "packed" calanders of concerts or events at our venues for the community.

 

2. Get new stands for SEFCU, the facility is gross right now.

 

3. Get a real marketing team together.

 

 

Basically...bring revenue IN.

Meh...the CAA with College of Charleston, Davidson and Coastal Carolina isn't exactly the same CAA all-sport conference we all wanted to join.

 

We just need to align with UNH, Maine and Stony Brook for football. IMO, our Olympic Sports are fine in the AEast for now.

Must have missed it...was it the same press release that laid out our long-term plan and vision for the future?

Kind of OT but keep an eye on RPI, they are exploring going D1.

It will take them 6 years or so to make the jump. They have to go DII and than DI. They're a perfect fit for the Patriot League.
