I found a Rivals.com article from 2010 that showed the lowest season ticket prices for each of the FBS programs. At Auburn it was $665 including required donation …. IF you could find one at that price. That

represented one of the higher minimums. Besides the boosters and corporate sponsors they certainly extract a lot of that $$$ from their fans!

About to get more expensive for fans as well as the new Federal Government Budget takes away the tax deduction for those donations required to get tickets.

Used to be able to deduct 80% of the "mandatory" donations. If the budget passes, you won't get any deduction.

Very little substance:

"By next season, Benson plans to create a fundraising organization dedicated solely to athletics and he wants to develop more seating packages to attract a wider range of spectators. Reaching more alumni and members of the business community are two big areas where he sees opportunity to grow."

Athletes: 467

Budget: $18.7 million

RPI: 579, $9.8 mil

LCC: 349, $12.8 mil

Union: 629, $5.7 mil

According to USA Today, the big difference between why UA is at $16M in revenue and SBU is at $25 is because of university contributions.

The SBU athletic department is getting $12M from the university while UA is at $7M. Looking at the trend this separation has been going on since at least 2005.

What does that mean in terms of % of overall university operating budget?

If I remember correctly, SBU has a significantly larger overall operating budget. I'd be surprised if its double UAlbany, but that would explain some of the difference in Athletics budget.
