Lacrosse 2017-2018 a look ahead

What brought Denver into being a powerhouse like the rest of the top five or so?

The coach and legal weed. haha! Kidding of course

I do not remember all the details; but the ncaa itself had a major affect on Denver becoming a power. The ncaa deemed it important for lacrosse to expand westward, so they did some things to help Denver. It has always been rumored that ncaa officials had a hand in getting Tiernay to leave Princeton (a national power) and going to upstart Denver. ncaa involvement was probably under the table and of course was never proven; but there was some direct ncaa help including travel and recruiting accommodations. I do not remember the exact details but do recall they were in place and authorized by the ncaa for a period of 3-5 years to help the lacrosse westward expansion. If anyone remembers; or know the exact details; or know/think I am way off base on this, please contribute.

According to joiseyfan on the Ivy board

The condensed version --
Tierney went to Denver to insure his son Trevor (the Princeton AA Goalie) would succeed him as head coach, supposedly in a few years. His long time assistant at Princeton, Dave Metzbower, would succeed him there.
Tierney left, Metzbower astonished everyone by turning down the job and left Princeton, ostensibly because of family responsibilities, leaving the Tigers screwed. Eight years later, Tierney shows no signs of retiring.
Probably the worst coaching dumpster fire in Gary Walters' 20 years as AD.

Army's new Lacrosse Center. Need to raise some serious cash.............Thompson Lacrosse Center has a nice ring to it. Need a field house as well. Need to upgrade soon or we are going to fall behind. Michigan is opening a new facility and it looks like Utah is starting lacrosse in 2019.

Thompson Lacrosse Center has a nice ring ONLY if they're going to donate a big chunk of cash.

You really think MLL or NLL pay that much. They do not even pay a living wage. Most/ALL must work other jobs. Even with their endorsements, I assume the Thompsons have needs on the reservations more dear to their hearts. Personally I would be please to see a Lacrosse center or upgrade named after them. Donation or not, they were/are very instrumental in putting UA on the Lacrosse map as well as being outstanding representatives to Native American causes!
