  1. Hard to say. 5000 would be a stretch (4500 - 6000 is the usual homecoming) but this is the first home night game in four years. I don't expect Fordham to bring many fans. OTOH, if we upset Hofstra 9 days earlier, it might stir some interest. At least it's not on Rosh Hashonah.
  2. Beating MAAC teams 50-7 does nothing for the program. Pioneer League teams almost never travel to the East Coast, they'd rather play Midwestern D-III or NAIA teams. We've already played PFL teams in Ohio and Iowa, we can play them again when they're willing to travel.
  3. Dom Pagano, a D-lineman I think, played for Albany during the first two varsity years (73-74). Don't know if they're related.
  4. True, this is a study of what we can, should, or would like to do, but without the study almost nothing will get accomplished. The wish list will also let us get past the public reaction of 'Gawd, they want $100 million!!!' (like it's all going to be cash up front in one fiscal year) and start project-by-project fundraising, once there's a goal in sight. Suggest the report be published along with the above-mentioned photo of the lacrosse (and field hockey) fields, with a closeup of the planks of the football seating. Dane96, I don't think those lax bleachers seat over 150-200. I'm guessing they're temporary until the whole field is rebuilt. By comparison, the north football stands seat about 800.
  5. In the March 4 luncheon announcement they said 'Sasaki Associates, Inc. will be in attendance. The company begins the development of a plan this week that will study the future growth of the school’s athletic facilities with regard to the intercollegiate athletics, recreation and intramural programs. The four-month study...' Four months would be July 4th. If there's a preliminary report, they could announce it at the Great Dane Golf Classic on June 28. If the brass wants to study or spin it, look for something near the opening of Giants' camp July 30 or UA's football camp August 8. Sasaki's Website doesn't list it yet under What We Create > Works-In-Progress
  6. Meanwhile the $tandard of the MAAC finished 7th for men, 9th for women in their Commissioner's Cup standings http://www.maacsports.com/0,5908,1_747_0_56441,00.html
  7. The 'wish list' last spring planned on plastic for football, lax, and field hockey, and grass for soccer. Schedulewise, you probably need two fields (besides the football field) for the fall sports, and FH needs artificial turf more than soccer, with a small ball on the ground so much. Lacrosse and field hockey could share their field. It all depends on how much they want to spend.
  8. Historically Black Colleges and Universities include Albany State University in Albany, Georgia, Division II athletics. The 'University' seems new for them, however.
  9. And how close Albany was to the men's T&F championship, losing to Northeastern 163 - 162.5 while finishing behind them in the 4x100 by 0.08 seconds.
  10. If he were a freshman or soph, maybe. Is anyone likely to fail AFTER the end of classes his senior year? Wouldn't he just finish this summer or next fall? Maybe he got a job offer that wouldn't wait two more weeks. Without any info the possibilities are limitless.
  11. Today's Troy Record reports Zim has left the team for 'personal reasons' and Vallone is 'questionable'.
  12. Back when Albany had a JV team there were over 100 players suited up, and Dane96 has heard Dayton flyer football fan talk about Dayton and Mount Union carrying 120 players, so some numbers must be doubled up, but I doubt they'd all be eligible.
  13. The Northeast Conference allows up to 30 (no more than 10 per year) football counters (players on any portion of athletic scholarship). Also, the 'ships must be need-based only. For 2002 (last year I saw numbers) Albany had 9.5 scholarships, about $90,000, probably divided among 15 or more players. Also counting toward the limit were five players who were here on track or baseball scholarships.
  14. Glad we won't have to find a walkon for placekicker. Missed FGs have cost us a couple of games the last few years.
  15. As we discussed at the game, the program and NCAA t-shirts listed us as 'ALBANY (NEW YORK)' (so no one would confuse us with that OTHER University at Albany Division I lacrosse team?) Have to win a tournament game next year to stop this soon - St. Joseph (PA) still can't get writers to drop the state. Callers on the Orange post-game radio were complaining that UA was hitting their scorers after every goal, but the refs wouldn't call it - they must have wanted to keep the underdog in the game! Yeah, right.
  16. Like underdog coaches everywhere, he's saying Albany's just like Maine, they put their bras on one cup at a time.
  17. While browsing Pres. Ryan's Spring Report to the Faculty http://www.albany.edu/news/campus_news/200...ing_faculty.htm I saw that 'A lacrosse alumnus has donated $250,000 to the program for our new turf field, as part of the Athletics Master Plan. Once approved through SUNY Central, the field will be named in his honor' That should be about 1/3 of the cost of the turf so it will probably the first improvement funded.
  18. Besides Albany at 51, he also has AEast 18th in RPI, ahead of the Mid-America and West Coast confs.
  19. Another example, the T-U today has the second front-page story on $iena BASEBALL in a week. That's pretty good coverage for a mediocre (23-21) program in a weak league
  20. UMBC is broadcasting the game online. 'Teamline' link from UMBC Lax page
  21. Baseball now up to 66 in Boyd's World RPI rating and 72 in his strength rating. Probably still need to win the tourney for the NCAA WS - around 55 and we could think at-large bid.
  22. Total of a full page in today's Gazette on the success of UA spring sports programs, McElroy saying how much the public has been calling him with congrats. Quotes from Cannata and Mueller, both saying that player development is key because they get raw talent (Mueller: "If you have the horses, you can ride"). Big pictures of Kroft, Lindgren, and 800M champ Gered Burns. Mention of the master plan, need for football, lacrosse and track facilities, and maintenance of high academic standards while building on-field success.
  23. Game story from the Troy Record Great attendance, especially since as usual there was no pregame story in the T-U, where I didn't see the game story online.
