  1. Genny vs Nisky game will be televised today on TW3 at 11 AM (6/4/05)
  2. The TU article and the ongoing "issue" has to be very discomforting to those who have supported the team for the last several years. It is hard to believe Dr. McElroy(or the shmoozer as my wife refers to him) would ever make the statements in Ettkinds column. There is no way he is going to open a liable issue between a B- or C+. That being said, I would have to admit the negotiations of a coaches contract(and I have negotiated many of them) is very, very difficult. Coaches are competitive(AD's included) and they are bred to win. They always want to do better than the other guy. I really hope this is the case at UA. Being a bench coach--to win those close games--is not as easy as the spectator or AD would like. It is a learning process for players and coaches. We are going in the right direction---BE PATIENT!!! We still don't have the horses--we need a couple more wide bodies.
  3. I think Gov. Arnold S. calls them "the girlie danes"!
  4. We don't play the Hawks tonight--but we plan to play them tomorrow night!!
  5. Will say it again---we have too many lawyers.
  6. Glad to see someone else was upset with "the letter on the desk" if that is what really transpired. If this is true, I find it really upsetting and hope it never happens again!!. Reasons are not important but informing an employee personally is absolutely necessary.
  7. POY very often comes from #1 or #2 team--although the choice was a surprise to me. If there are 9 guards on the 1st three teams, why isn't the guard who might break the AE record for three's one of the nine. The slight to Schu is almost as bad as the slight to Dani. Schu was really our only consistent 3 point threat and drew tremendous defensive pressure the second half of the season but her quick release still allowed her to score. I think the league just doesn't like neubies.
  8. It is not the size of the crowd but often the closeness of the crowd which makes Bing and UVM far different than UCLA. That being said, I don't think it is crowds that intimidate--it is teams and players that intimidate. Having played HS and 4 years in college, I can't remember a crowd that had an effect(sp?) on a game although I am sure they probably did. A super difficult OOC schedule is scary but if I were a player I would love it. You can't grow playing the have nots.
  9. Bing boxoffice said UA section is 116 but who knows---they will probably spread us all over the gym.
  10. USA Today ranks conferences by the middle teams and America East is 21st, just behind the MAAC.
  11. GODANESGO and UAalum72 have read it right. If there was a true Ethics issue it would not(or should not) have reached the Times. This is a political issue, from a political appointee and a politically appointed committee which the legislature will never change because they rarely do anything ethical. Pres. Hitchcock did many things to improve UA and some people just don't give up!
  12. Bing plays BU, Maine plays UVM, Bing beat Maine twice----Bing is going to be #5, see ya noon Saturday.
  13. Hartford by 4--final, UA backs in to 4 seed.
  14. It is good to see young men who play basketball for the challenge of the game. Kenny and "Q" were truly "walk-ons" at a time we really needed them. Chris is a fans favorite. He played through coaching changes, severe injuries and a non-starting Captain. Fortunately, they all go out as winners in UA's most succesfull year and IT ISN'T OVER!!
  15. Track & Field is a chess match--you place your players in a postiion to win and if they perform, you win--but then maybe if we place them in the wrong positions and they performed their best and we still didn't win? A simple sport--not at all!! I am confident Coach Vives made all the right decisions--there will be another day.
  16. DPs' analysis of OOC opponents is very good and UA66 is right on line with realistic progress. My question is why the obsession with playing Hofstra? I know Long Islanders had a choice--live at home and go to Hofstra or go upstate to a Suny school. For those of us who live Upstate, Hofstra has no more prestige than playing LIU, NYU or Booklyn Poly(if it still exists). Colgate, Cornell, Army or Marist will be much bigger draws at the RACC. I love playing the big boys but let's walk before we run.
  17. I'll just throw in a few negatives-- 1. Both our mens and womens teams do not put enough pressure on the three's They just don't anticipate or react to ball movement. Note how hard our teams work for threes. (exception--we worked hard on Sorrentine at end of game) 2. I thought student turnout was poor--maybe 500 with 3000+ adults. 3. Zollner played well against Big T but has trouble moving against the zone and gets frustrated against the zones double teams Those comments aside, it was an enjoyable game, the Rowdies had fun and add to the atmosphere and the rotation of players left us fresh and they were tired at the 6 minute mark but media time-outs and mutiple team time-outs gave them life.
  18. We probably got rocked on the Honor Roll because UA still has some integrity in the grading system. Hartford, UVM, UNH & Maine all had 60% plus of their athletes with 3.0 and up. C'mon---that makes grading a joke. But, grading may be a joke on campuses today as it is in high schools. That said--congratulations to the UA athletes on the Honor Roll and Commisioners list. I'm sure they earned their grades at UA!!
  19. If Zo continues to miss 5 lay-ups to begin the game the chant of "oh-fer" as heard in Binghamton is going to become a league nickname. ALSO did anyone else think it was strange that we continued to press the whole first half even though it didn't create a turnover and Jamar was on the bench for 10 minutes. Interesting comment at half-time on Bing radio by assistant coach---"pressure on the three's and hammer anyone inside who tried to take a shot"---14 fouls on 4 guys is a "hammer".
  20. After todays Maine/Bing game, it looks like Albany/Bing on Saturday, March 5th unless Albany and BU defeat Norteastern and UA wins the tie breaker. With a good effort in the last 6 games(less the scenerio above), UA should be #4 and Bing will improve to #5. Bing has only Albany and cupcakes left. Maine and UMBC have Albany and the top three left.
  21. HAVE TO AGREE WITH ALUM73. WE ARE ALL APPRECIATIVE OF THE SUCCESS OF THE TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO EXPRESS THOSE FEELINGS WHEN THEY ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE TO GO TO PRESTIGUOUS MEETS AWAY FROM HOME. BE ASSURED MANY OF US FOLLOW YOUR SUCCESS, BUT EVEN NEWS ARTICLES ARE VERY BRIEF. SUGGESTION: GIVE MEET RESULTS OF ALL OF THE ATHLETES IN ALL EVENTS TO THE ATHLETIC WEB SITE. THAT WAY EVEN PARENTS CAN FOLLOW THE TEAM AS WELL AS ALUMS AND THOSE INTERESTED IN THE TEAM. PS: I HAVE SEEN T&F ATHLETES AT OTHER EVENTS AND THEY ARE SUPPORTIVE OF OTHER UA TEAMS.
  22. Parking is NOT a problem---for $25 you got a parking permit for football & bb, less than $1 event!! For Albany Fan---I don't find the Pepsi an enjoyable arena, seats are very, very tight and you are no where near the floor for any event although for games like Siena & Syracuse it is a must. 8000 fans is, as Sarge 965 pointed out, unrealistic. We would have to drop all of our opponents, including Villanova, except for Syracuse and Siena. The average size of our current opponents is slightly over 3000 and except for Vermont and occasionally Maine, they are never full. A packed RACC at 5000 is a lot more fun for the players than 8000 in the caverns of the Pepsi!!
  23. Good job RACC Rowdies!! The "old folks" really enjoy seeing the increase in students in the stands and the energy and fun they seem to have. The good old days are becoming the good new days---Thanks for your efforts.
  24. Student-athletes do attend sporting events of other teams on a regular basis. I have seen them at BB, FB, SB, VB and Lacrosse. To require them to attend would be rediculous. Can you imagine trying to recruit an athlete and saying "by the way you must attend two games of the other 18 sports on campus". It is hard to believe that of the 12,000 undergrauates, some didn't enjoy sports in high school. !0% attendance at most events would be FANtastic. Some sports would be excited with 2-5%. Winners will increase the attendance at the RACC. Fill 75% with non-students, add 25% students for noise and excitement and the atmosphere will be great and unbeatable. BU had less than 1000 today for an overtime one-point game, so our attendance is not all that bad. NOTE TO GREATDANES84: You should have applied to UT---you would probaly have been able to attend for less cost than UAlbany---- from the father of a UT grad.
