  1. AMEN!! When we played LIU we parked in the Brubacher parking lot which took my wife and I back almost 50 years when a car was a dream and we walked every where. In those days a walk to the Washington Ave. Armory, Palace, Strand and Eagle theatres were short, safe walks for the coeds.
  2. Jon has contributed a great deal to UAlbany. He set minute records his 1st year and we are fortunate we now are more healthy and more talented than 2 years ago. We still need Jon! He is a fan favorite, opponents fear his shooting ability. Last nights match up was tough--6'11, 6'8, 6'8, 6'8, and 6'3 creates a problem for Jon(and it did for Jamar). Kicking a chair is only frustration for wanting to help in a very important game. He may not have been on the court but he is one of the first ones off the bench with encouragement at time outs.
  3. I agree!! I have a parking pass but every time we pass the free parking area I say to my wife they should have a shuttle. It is not a long walk but for the elderly and young who come to an occasional game it is a real negative.
  4. The reporter was a "guest reporter" or "frequent contributor". I think by the tone of his reports he is normally assigned to obituaries. The team was 15 or 17 from the line. Jamar did miss 1 of 2 at one point but it in no way had an impact on the game. We lost by 3 and the free throw was only worth 1. Sports writers no longer exist. They are all edtorialists who don't hear or see the game but write stories on info from wire services. The TU should be happy the area has a nationally recognized team and should promote rather dump on it. Bring back the Knickerbocher News!!
  5. Good job WCDB---first victory for women vs UVM---solid D against AE's leading scorer and very agressive offense by Mikus and Ward--good overall team effort and win.
  6. SENIOR NIGHT wil be a great night to honor the Seniors, clinch our 1st AE Mens Basketball championship, clinch a potential home seed for the AE championship, and clinch a post season bid, be it the NCAA or NIT!!! Students might not be there but alums and friends will help the team BRING IT HOME!! GO DANES!!!
  7. No problems! Real Player provided typical internet quality. Tough lose--team played well and I think surprised the VCU announcers. VCU is good but not great. They won't survive their own tournament.
  8. The two year extension was a little surprising since Coach Patterson was not playing with her own recruits. That said, I like Coach Patterson and I think her last two recruiting classes were much better than the first one. She has a very young team but I have been disappointed in their progress. They are very passive on defense and equally passive on offense except for Sherri who is having a very solid if not great year and Amanda who is doing an awful lot for her first year in DI. They have three players in street clothes who could turn the team around next year.
  9. Your first break since the semester started??? You've only been in school 4 weeks!! You'll probably get a Spring break in March. Classes end in early May---not much education for the cost.
  10. It would be real hard at this time to understand why a new contract isn't around the corner. He has shown maturity and patience with the team. Has Jamar under control and has controlled Levi's emotions without loss of intensity. The tournament should not be a factor in his contract. We have a very young team to say to them you have to win or your coach is gone. The lack of a future contract puts undo pressure on this team and this coach for the tournament.
  11. I agree on some of the chants--they are very stale(20 yrs plus) and show little imagination. The students were having a good time and the paid security was very lax in doing their job. The UA athletic department was present and did a good job and had control before security came on the scene. We sit behind the opponents bench and did not see the bottle cap thrown--only retrieved. Interestingly it did not seem to be a problem for one or two minutes but all of a sudden Coach Wolfe(sp) decided to use it to (1) slow the UA momemtum and (2) plant a seed with the refs--if it happens again we want two shots and the ball. I don't have a problem with this as basketball is a game and as a coach you play every angle and the BU coach was doing everything within the rules. It should be noted that Coach Brown willingly went on the PA at the insistance of the refs. That bottle cap incident was blown way out of proportion. If security was on the ball the thrower would have been quickly escorted out of the gym. They should be reminded they are there for crowd control and we are there to watch the game.
  12. According to my Albany math training of 50 years ago it would take 4 games to clinch. Binghamton is only one game behind in the lost column--thus 4 games---unless they falter.
  13. Simple solution--Explain to your RD & RA that Pres. Hall will give them extra points if they attend the game with the residents and have the meeting after the game. (My apologies to Pres. Hall for taking the words out of his mouth) We didn't have this problem in my day--be it 45+ years ago--all the RA's went to the game and the one that had to stay in the dorm and watch it over closed circuit was really PO'd.
  14. A flag of the quality of the one that is missing will cost quite a bit BUT that is no excuse--get a can and the gal with the chalk board--go into the Hall of Fame Room before the mens game and all those free loaders should throw in ten bucks and you should walk out with a cool $1000 to cover the cost----------good luck!!
  15. In fairness to Iati, he is often inserted in the game to run an out of bounds play and often gets an open shot and ---misses. Tough to jump up, run in and shoot. If his playing time increased his percentage would go up but the match ups for playing time are sometimes not there. I also agree that Iati, Lillis and sometime Levi and Brent are reluctant to pull the trigger. Zollner needs to stop banging when he has the ball offensively. He either fouls or draws a foul, neither are what we want. Plant your feet, go up strong and lay it in gently six inches down in the basket. His defense and rebounding is much improved and much more energetic.
  16. Bing is tough at home and in the drivers seat. They have 6 of 9 home games left with only 1 tough game on the road--Vermont. We have 5 of 8 on the road where all games are tough. Only another 8 game streak will insure a chance for a home court final.
  17. We led 26 - 21 at half time and as the old saying goes "forgot to come out of the locker room". Scored 11 points in 19 minutes to begin second half. Missed a ton of shots. Noon games are AE attempt to celebrate 25th anniversary of womens tournament. Albany wasn't successful in promoting it but BU had over a thousand kids on Tuesday.
  18. More field goals, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals and fewer turn-overs than UNH. The difference-- threes and frees(throws that is). If we shot the same free throw percentage as UNH we would have won by two. I don't think we will ever get home calls and we didn't today. If we did we would have won by more than two. I left disappointed with the loss but not by the effort and COMPOSURE of the team. They really played hard and took a physical beating WITHOUT LOSING COMPOSURE!! That may really down the road if, heaven forbid, we get this combination of refs again.
  19. 849 is from the Siena school of mathematics---count season tickets, add walk-ups and you don't have to count the real 26+ in attendance. From where I sat the Danes were outnumbered by the all male UVM contingent. It was real ugly. We have a real problem guarding low block players. My high school and college coaches said--you only have to score one point to win if you play D. No one ever believed that but the theory has some merit. Final question---who in the world changed that game to noon???
  20. Wasn't Margison our one and only All-American? He is truly a great representative of the University. A truly great competitor but a very quiet, humble team player. Margison, like Gary Holway, did not benefit from the 3-point line or their records would be out of reach. In the back of my mind I think Rich Margison's dad may have also graduated from what we now call UA.
  21. The recruited Class of 2006 is beginning to look very, very good. Two bigs and a 6"5" blue-collar Mid-West guard.
  22. Good Win!! I'll bite my tongue on the negatives and stay positive: **Attendance--a pleasant surprise for a Tuesday--student attendance was very good!! **Iowa--We need more mid-westerners--great fundamental skills and even greater effort **Lillis--when the rust comes off he may be special--great court sense--probably not a true point guard but knows the job of a point and does it--GREAT REBOUNDING **Levi--must be hard after being a go-to-guy but he is doing his job as a Captain--challenging team members and when called on goes in and does his job **Brown--good substitutions in the end--mobility and free throw shooters **Iati--you got to love him--a 3 in the first half off the backboard which he didn't call but the refs let it count and then 8 free throws off the bench **Covington--as he improves the team will improve **Depth--the first time we have seen how important it is to have a bench--in prior years we would have lost this game! **Lucious--whenever things seemed to be going South, Lucious came up with a big effort
  23. I think it is "Coach Brown" and "handle"---if you are a UA grad you obviously didn't have the Professors I had for Frosh comp. I have been critical of Coach Brown in the past but he did call 2 early time-outs in the first half to stop the Harvard run(unsuccessful but it was something lacking in the past) and he did take the blame and has been taking the blame recently for the teams funk. Now it is time for the team to respond--as a unit--basketball is a fun game and if you put forth intense total effort every minute you are in the game you will be able to sleep at night. As my wife-who has watched 40 years of Albany basketball-"sez" when you are 15 down with 5 minutes to go--"What are you doing--get in their face and get the ball!!"
  24. Bing is good, if not very good! I am not sure what is going on at Syracuse. They had some great Freshmen last year but comparing scores with common opponents this year, this should be a very competitive game. With our very young team we will have to have our "A" game and a lot of fan support---GO DANES!!
