  1. Coach Brown steps up today in the TU. Soon everything will be in sync as coaches and players take on responsibility---I'm happy--looking for break out at Cleveland State.
  2. Class of 72/74 reports some concerns. I wish Coach Brown would speak less negatively about the players and assume some if not all the responsibility for the losses in public and beat on the players in private. Bench coaching is tough especially with almost all new assistants. Computer coaching is easy--I would NOT have called a time-out with 10 seconds to go in the SH game(and then not get a shot off) and I would NOT have called a time out with 1:38 to go (and the ball) against Siena and allow them a chance to re-group, but I would have called a time out well before they got to that 13 point lead in the first half. I'm a geezer like 72/74 and don't like to stop my own momentum but will stop my opponents momentum even if it is the first half. Let's hope Coach Brown and the team learns from these "practice" games--GO DANES!!
  3. If there is not a local link(WCDB or WOFX), I always go to the opponents web-site. You can pick up a radio link or gametracker--the tele-type format gives you great play by play info and and statistics. POSTNOTE: WOFX has finally junked Sports Juice and now has an excellent internet broadcast. I still like the broadcasts by WCDB better than WOFX. WCDB gives excellent detail. WOFX enjoys watching the game but doesn't let the listener know what is happening--ie. who scored, who the fouls are on, etc., etc.
  4. Women win again!! After a loss to UNLV, the ladies come from behind(51-54) to win over Columbia(58-54)! Schumaker, Sterling, Thrower and Peterson all score in the comeback!! Have to get those ladies to teach those guys how to finish!!! Just kidding guys but, I like the effort of this very, very young team.
  5. Was their a problem with Levi at the end of the game? He only played 24 minutes and did not play at all at the end of game or overtime. As a Senior, it must have been tough to sit out the Siena game. Even offense/defense substitutions would have seemed appropriate. I thought Siena played hard and well, but I thought Sacred Heart played hard and well. Maybe it's...............bring on Cleveland State!!!
  6. You HAVE to root for Siena when you are not playing them. I walked to the armory in the late 50's and 60's to see them play and when I got to play aganist them it made the victories sweeter because of who they played. I know Siena and UA both say it isn't a rivalry BUT, when 8-10,000 people pay to see the game on Saturday---it isn't just another game---at least not to the OLDTIMERS!
  7. It is amazing to me of the ability of UA to attract players to all of our teams from all over the country. Maybe the reputation of the school is far greater than those of us who graduated 40 plus years ago realize. It is very exciting!! The recruitment of two guards to replace our two Seniors was a good move.
  8. Our guards(Jamar, Iati, Seegers, Jordan) are scorers and not point(passing) guards!! They telegraph almost all entry passes and pass up a multitude of open men. That said--some of our big men have trouble with a pass that isn't telegraphed. The exception is Brent and Levi(if he can grasp control and stay in the game). I like the looks of Connelly, Covington, Graham and when Lillis gets his legs back, I think we will be all right. The league will be a dog fight and looks by early season scores to have tremendous parity from top to bottom. PS--Siena is NOT going to be an automatic "W'!! and Sacred Heart is NOT going finish at the bottom of the NEC--remember, their best player(Henley) did not play against us.
  9. Not a bad start on the road. Most of the posters were very gloomy about this team after losing 3 -- I say 4 --starters. A very, very young team may improve offensively as confidence increases. The Wednesday night Siena game should be interesting but we just can't make it. An absolutely lousy night to schedule a cross town rivalry---but that's Siena--they will do anything to create an advantage.
  10. Women win first game 54-47 over Niagara at the St. Bonnies tournament. Will play at 2:00 PM tomorrow in finals. Haven't heard much about the ladies, but this has to be a real positive for them and the coaches.
  11. PS--The team played well and shot 3's as they did in the exhibition. Rebounding seemed to be a great problem---and how do you allow an individual score 39 points??? But who cares---we have our shot at Florida!!!!!!!!!! GO DANES111
  12. WOFX doesn't get 25 miles from Albany after dark and SportsJuice link is almost always useless. Oakland University was available and very clear over the Net. UA has to do something about away game broadcasts. Every other D-I school seems to have a way for fans to get connected to away games except Albany. Tech wise we SUCK---so much for nanoscience---we haven't even mastered the PC.
  13. Was Ettkin at the game? If so he has a vision problem and needs those glasses changed. Students did not make up the crowd. Many were at the volleyball game as they should have been. Part of the UA problem is the TU and editors like Ettkin. We have a exhibition game and get two lower page columns. Siena gets three lower page columns next to UA for an inter-sqaud scrimmage that hasn't even happened yet. Watch tomorrows column coverage for their inter-sqaud and call Ettkin. Why the TU knocks a team that could result in increased paper sales and advertising is beyond me. Someone at the publishers level should take those sports writers to the woodshed. Added note: No coverage of our volleyball team except a line score is a joke!!!!---and wouldn't happen in any D-I local paper in the country except the TU!!!
  14. TW3 TV coverage was great for the volleyball team and even greater for the University. This is not to slight the coverage by WCDB. Being down 2-0 and coming back has to really help the teams confidence level as the end of the season approaches. Congrats to the team and Coach Sheffield and his assistants.
  15. Her serve is truly impressive!! Even if she doesn't catch D-II, D-III leaders, I'm sure she will be as proud as we are that she is all-time D- I and when someone looks at collegiate records they only look D-I!!!
  16. The Senior/Staff discount was also eliminated-- so my seasons tickets doubled. Since we attend both teams games it is still a good deal. I began buying seasons tickets when we went D-I(although we attended D-III, and D-II games often) to support the transition and still try not to think of it as "getting our monies worth". That said, I DO AGREE that some incentives should be offered to encourage family attendance. I do think you will see some such promotions when the season begins.
  17. All the muck land is not in Mid and Eastern New York. Western New York has the Batavia MuckDogs in the old PONY League--Penn--Ontario--NY which currently visits Joe Bruno Stadium. You now have 3 muckers on this thread--I spent three years crawling up and down those 1/4 mile rows weeding, blocking and topping onions and carrots. One hundred crates of topped carrots resulted in $8 for a $7.95 pair of Converse sneakers which paved my way to 4 years of basketball at UA. We worked 7days a week at 10 hrs per week for $ .65 per hour and were paid $5 per week and the balance was paid at the end of the season. One Summer paid for one year at UA or was it Albany State or SUCE or SUNYA or STC at Albany--I forget--- but I again thank Mr. Snyder for his generous contribution. GO DANES!!!---LET'S GET BACK ON TRACK
  18. We too enjoy the parking pass system, but also the parking level entrance for season pass holders. We have had season passes since Albany went D-I. Mainly because we wanted to see UA rise once again to the level of Siena. We attended UA, although it had a different name--several different names--when we first began to defeat Siena on a regular basis and we knew it could happen again. We are fortunate to have two D-I teams in such a small market, fortuantely we are now the better one!! Don't worry, the fans will come!!!
  19. 1st---Thanks to Mr. Snyder for his generous donation---I only wish I could match it. 2nd--Thank you to Alum73 for the info. I have to agree that public institutions no longer exist. In 1957-62, I could earn all the money needed for room, board, books and spending money during the summer(we had no tuition)---you had to earn < $1000 to do this. Try to do that today. The result is lower and lower middle income students are deprived of a public education. That is sad---we are not educating a lot of very capable students without putting them into a large amount of debt.
  20. The roster I see only has 14 players. Sean Leahy, frosh walk-on is no longer on roster I am getting.
  21. We did not overpower the NEC last year. Football success is important and facility improvements are important. When we have both we wil be ready to UPGRADE. Patience and success are important. All we can do is lend financial support.
  22. The game being in Portland is a bonus for Albany fans. Portland is a great small city and the waterfront area will be great fun either before or after the game. Good food and beverages (not gormet) at very reasonable prices. Unfortunately, we will be on the West coast but thinking GO DANES!! I think playing Maine is a great move for UA.
  23. I like Jamar to start but the rest is a crap shoot. That is great---it means we have a lot of people who can start and comptetion is great--except for the injuries it can create. Coach Brown now has some coaching decisions--who to start, who to play, --nice problem
  24. I like the post of UAalum72!! The more opportunites for participation the better!!! I think DF2ks is out of wack. NO ONE would like to drop teams with the HOPE that would provide a winning football or basketballl team. I llike Bob Ford and I have financially supported the basketball program annually for over 40 years but if I was ever told that my support resulted in the elimination of the wrestling, or swimming programs, I would drop my support immediately!! Teams support teams---we would not have won the American East Comissioners Cup without a wide and varied sports program. The Comissioners Cup would be a lock if we added a few more low scholarship sports.
  25. We have already cut sports(and some very successful ones) to go to Division I and meet Title IX requirements. Let's forget about cutting sports and concentrate on financing the ones we have and if anything reinstating some we lost. The alumnae and community has to pushed a little harder. Maybe the Ivy league has the right idea-- NO athletic scholarships BUT scholarships to athletes---it gives you a broader base for financial support.
