  1. I agree with KiKuria---Courtney is a class act and had to make a decision for himself that did not adversely affect the team. He was in Philly at the UConn game and I am sure he was just as excited as everyone else at the success of his former teammates. He was a walk-on who contributed greatly in the teams time of need. The time that is required to be just on the team in college is incrediable. If he chose to go to CSR for both academic and athletic reasons, I won't question his decision making.
  2. Tremendous accomplishment for a truly outstanding student athlete. Her Bio on the athletic web-site is truly outstanding. It is nice to see that the "New Yorkers' Magazine" of almost fifty years ago that called us "The Harvard of the Hudson" is still relevant and that at the D-I level we recruit STUDENT-athletes. As an alumnus, I am very proud---thanks Ashley for you accomplishments!!
  3. Just as the Women's lax team is showing signs of progress someone throws a black marble in it's path(all the way from Oregon). I like the responses of the lady lax players. Hazing is an ethical question--good to bad!!! Good if it builds team unity--oneness--in a team sport-----------bad if someone is injuried either physically or mentally. Those who have never been initiated on a sports team or experienced a soroity or fraternity "hazing" will never understand and need not respond to this thread.
  4. Just a note for Zalman B---if you get upset by bigpurplefans grammar and technical errors you will drive yourself NUTS!! My wife was an English/Speech major and I was a Math major and the grammar errors even drive a Math major nuts because they are embarrassing for the quality of student who is attending or graduated from UAlbany. However, it is the internet and we are trying to get our message out as quickly and simply as possible. As Bob87 would say--have another beer and enjoy!!!
  5. Patch is correct, you can't compare. I played with Holway and have seen Margison, Graber and Wilson many times. They were/are very talented. So be it that Wilson is our best DI player and now he has a lot of support which perhaps the previous players did not have--such is the life of DIII. Game is completely different with clock and 3-pointer. All sports change--just think what Babe Ruth would have done with steroids instead of beer and hot dogs!
  6. When you are old and your eyes start to go the uniforms look like a very, very dark pruple. Now some may call it black but it really is a very, very dark pruple isn't it?? They have been wearing those uniforms for several years and they are nice looking and who cares---if the home uniforms are white instead of gold, why can't the away uniforms be black instead of purple? It's what's in the uniform that counts!!
  7. Is the Pepsi a privately built arena? I don't think so--
  8. UAlum72 has it pretty accurately. As a student fro 1957-1962(BS & MS degrees), I was forced to buy new sweatshirts every year. NYS College for Teachers, College of Education at Albany, SUCE at Albany and SUNY at Albany. NOTE: It was never Albany State because it was always Albany State. I have had numerouse e-mails from the old Albany State educators who are very proud of the current UAlbany. We are Family!
  9. Can't we forget Josh Duell, he is not the same Josh Duell this year as he was last. Scholarships can be used better elsewhere. If he wants to walk-on, OK.
  10. Big D has analyzed the situation quite well. Who would really want to coach that UConn team? They were indifferent during warm-ups, the first half and most of the second half. The coach almost went nuts trying to wake them up. Coaching at that level is financially rewarding but?? With that said, I was surpised at the salary range of AE coaches--$88,000 to $350,000. Granted the cost of living in Boston is a little higher than in Orono and experience adds to BU salary. I can't understand Stony Brooks action for the poor job that coach did. Glad I am not the UAlbany AD. He has very successful coaches in mens lacrosse, volleyball, softball, track and field, football and now basketball. How are you fair, work within your budget and keep them all happy????
  11. Coach Brown's comment of "We'll get better.." at the beginning of the season came to fruition. Offense and Defense progressed weekly. Zollner ended up doing what everyone was hoping for at the beginning of the season. Coach Brown improved with the team and was a calming influence. His use of time-outs in the UConn game was great. Just a great season for some great young men.
  12. I'm sure we saw Courtney at the game. He seemed in very good spirits and we were glad to see him there supporting the team. As a walk-on it was his decision and we should be thankful of the minutes he gave us in those low--very low years.
  13. Etkind sampled 1/20th of 1% of the students. He found 3 students that knew something about the team. That is actually very, very good. That would mean 5,000 students have some knowledge of the team in a very diverse University with diverse interests. Good thing those 5,000 all don't want or can't(night classes) get to the games or us alums would have trouble finding a seat. Another good reason to get your seasons tickets for next year!!
  14. DISAPPOINTING MATCH UP BECAUSE OF UCONNS INSIDE STRENGTH. BUT IF WE PLAY GREAT AND THEY HAVE AN OFF DAY---WE ARE IN AN EASY BRACKET TO THE FINAL FOUR.
  15. I have been kicking myself since I left for the game without setting my DVD recorder. If anyone has a copy I would love to know. I know it can't be sold but a gift is always possible.
  16. You may have trouble getting a chairback near the floor for next year but I don't think you will have a problem getting a chairback. I'm sure glad we decided to support the team by buying season tickets when we did!!!
  17. We've had season parking but plan to attend "Bagels and Basketball" and walk to the RACC if the parking lot is full. Who cares--it's going be a beautiful day and we'll enjoy the walk BOTH WAYS!!!
  18. GOOD!! WE WELCOME ALL THE NEWBIES WE CAN GET---we have had season tickets since they started selling them and have attended games for 49 years.
  19. Bob87 knew everyone except the Mayor! It was a nice gathering. The students--Levi, Lu and Jamar are really great representatives of our University. It probably wasn't the most fun thing for them; but, it was great fun for the fans and alums.----THANKS!
  20. Every seat can't be sold because of the fire code.
  21. You don't win the conference to play at a neutral site. We packed Page Hall, the Armory and University Gym---now it is time to pack the RACC and make students stand in line for tickets(they will soon learn attending athletic competitions is a great social activity). I like the America East and will like it even more if a football conference becomes a reality. We already are competitive nationally in lacrosse, volleyball, softball, and track and field and the other programs are improving each year. The AE is a good--very good academic-athletic conference. If you attend several different events, you will realize how talented these young people are.
  22. I can't disagree with programs running in the red, and I don't think UA will be in the black. I just think if administered properly football and basketball will support themselves (although not just by box office receipts) and other sports will be supported by the University and alumnae. I have a cousin who played at Bowling Green on scholarship and is coaching football in NY State today. If they are in the red for 1.9 mil someone is over paid and the administration should be in question.
  23. Fund raising is really for the professionals. The alums contributions are the frosting--the corporates build the cake. FB & BB schloraships will not take away but only support the other sports programs. Run the numbers--with 10-15,000 for football and 4-5000 for basketball will provide a nice income. With this weekends AE championship, our home attendance will average over 3000 and be 2nd in the AE. If the new FB conference comes to be a reality--10,000 will be a piece of cake--if played at twilight or night.
  24. Section 101 Row K on the aisle for us----Go Danes!!!
  25. I think the Iati clan lives closer to UMBC than Albany---not that it alone would influence Coach Brown to play him early but once the stroke returned he even let him play through a few misses. Great to have the stroke back for the tournament. Great distribution of minutes today with 10 players involved.
