  1. I know at Tennesee a tuba player can get a scholarship equal to an offensive tackle if he/she is willing to be a member of "The Pride of the Southland Band". Although he/she will have to put to put in more practice time than the offensive tackle. PS---I think the UA pep band is great and seems to be growing in size every year.
  2. UA Women clinched #1 Tournament seed & tonight clinched regular season America East championship with 55-46 win over New Hampshire. Down by 12 at half-time, outscored UNH 37 -16 in second half. Congrats to women and Coach Abe-- If you haven't seen them play show up on March 2nd for Senior Day. You won't be disappointed.
  3. Black was 7 for 14 from the floor (only 1/5 from 3 pt.). I'll take 50% from the guard position---back of the kid and he'll be alright.
  4. Read the article before the game and agree entirely. If they called the game like they did when I played at Albany 50 years ago there wouldn't be any players left to play on either team. Hooley is flattened with a ref within 8 feet and it is a no call???
  5. UA'08 makes a good point. I think our bigs need a bigs coach. We are too guard oriented--players and coaches--to compete. That being said I'll be there every game to cheer them on. I don't think a victory, or two or maybe even three is impossible in the tournament.
  6. I oppose retiring jerseys. It is a team game--leave it that way!
  7. Shereesa could break the career scoring and/or rebounding record. It all depends on what scorers and rebounders are recruited. Erin, Taylor and Tammy all show promise. If we can keep Coach Abe the womens program is in good hands. As John Wooden said --if you want to see real basketball watch the womens game----------
  8. We were in both the BU and UVM games with a two minutes to go. Your coach can get you in a position to win but he can't play the game. The match-ups in the UVM game were poor. Our line-up was giving away too many inches
  9. Two time all conference defensive player of the year is now our all-time leading scorer. A very, very good all-around player!!! Congrats to her and Julie.
  10. Article was also front page of Saratogian Sports section with a little more detail.
  11. Agree with UAalum72 that Hallof Fame is the correct recgnition. Leave the arena for TEAM banners of championship TEAMS. Played with Holway and Cohen and watched Rich Margison many times. All could have played at our current D1 level but the game has changed in 50 years--do you think.
  12. Go toUASports.com and click on promotions. Student crowd was good for St.Francis -- one end 80% full, the other 40-50% full with a big group behind the players bench. For a mid-week, non-conference game it was very, very good. But now exams, 30+ day vacation may throw water on the student crowd. If each student brought another student we would be close to 3500 which is 75% of capacity---have to start somewhere.
  13. I was very pleased with student attendance at the Duquesne game. I'll give students a pass on the Wagner game---day after vacation, first day of classes, LI students impacted by Sandy. We just have to admit times have changed! UA has a lot of promos for students to attend but they have to contend with social media, TV in dorm rooms, etc., etc. When the students attend they seem to have a good time but I don't have a clue how to keep them keep coming. Do the athletes live with everyday students ? We had more students at wrestling matches than we now have at BB games especially WBB games. But then I'm an Oldtimer
  14. In my playing days the games were always at the Washington Ave. Armory(Siena's home court) BUT I think the ticket sales alternated Siena home game then Albany home game. Just as Page Hall was too small in those days, Sefcu is too small today. Alternate the home team at the TU.
  15. Gerardo seemed like a very nice person. He could have really usedb another year to learn what was needed on the other end of the court. I hope he catches on somewhere.
  16. UAalum72 has a good assessment. Sidelines 2000 Upper 2000 Lower Opposite side 2000 Lower 2000 Upper End Zones 3000 Lower 3000 Upper 3000 Lower 3000 Upper Expansion would be in 5 - 6 units as needed. Semi - circular end zones seat way more than sideline seats. I sat on cement then planks for club football. I am looking forward to continuing my season tickets at the new stadium!
  17. Patience--Our defense will better and if we can add a big and a scorer we will be fine. As far as coach Brown, I think he grew as a bench coach when Logan went down at the end of the season and "G" had his shingles problem. He used the remaining players well.
  18. I was very pleased to see the talent of the newcomers in the scrimmage. There did not seem to be a big gap between the newbies and the vets. That being said it means the team is very young! I would be happy with a 6-6 OOC schedule as long as the 6 losses are close losses to the better teams!! I think the team we see Nov. 11 will be far different than the team we will see March 1. I think the OOC schedule is a great schedule for both the team and the fans.
  19. The women's schedule is a BEAR! However, if the returnees improve and Higy and the frosh deliver it is doable. A GREAT year for the fans!! Thirteen(13) home games for both the womens and mens programs plus AWAY games vs Siena. A lot of quality teams coming to the RACC. Glad we renewed our seasons tickets early. In the meantime GO COACH FORD----JUST SET YOUR SIGHTS FAR ABOVE CAYUGAS WATERS!!
  20. If the current students are so 2-dimensional that they enjoy Yankees, Notre Dame and Giants games over real action of their classmates, it doesn't speak well for the type of students being admitted to UAlbany. But 50 years ago televisions, toasters, microwaves, refrigerators, telephones, and girls(or boys) were not allowed in dorm rooms. It made for a much more social campus and attendance at soccer, basketball, wrestling and baseball games were well attended.
  21. Unless things have changed drastically in the last few years, UAlbany students are treated the same as UT students---tickets are free. Of the 106,000 seats at UT, less than 20,000(my guess) are made available to students. The remainder are sold to the alumni on a lottery basis. Want to keep your seats the next season add $1000+ as a contribution to the athletic department. I think the athletic department is aware of where the $$$ are and is concentrating on the alumni. This almunus point of view with the progress of athletics is that I am amazed----UA is beating teams from bigger conferences---i.e. Field Hockey beats Colgate, Delaware an Rutgers---Volleyball beats Fairfiled, Seton Hall, Syracuse and Temple. A far cry from my collegiate days when the girls sports were soccer cheerleading and basketball cheerleading. UA ALL THE WAY IN ALL SPORTS.
  22. Journalists today have a problem with headlines!!!!!!!!! The headline led "oldtimers" to think he was going to write about "60's & '70's basketball or club football rivalries. In truth he wanted the "real" news medium to give us some kudos for our dominance in all sports including volleyball, soccer, field hockey, et al. I may be wrong but that's my perception and I appreciate the time students give to on campus publications.
  23. Pre-season sales packaged the mens and ladies games---result: both courtside and chairbacks are sold out. Can't wait for the season to start---the men have potential and hopefully the ladies will rebound from a down year. In the meantime, I hope Bob Ford has as much success as Washington in crossing the Delaware.
  24. Interesting to see you have to accept 10,000 students to get a class of 2500. Also an average of 89.6 seems pretty low based on today's inflated HS grades. An 89.6 would have had a hard time to be admitted in the late '50's and 60's but they only had classes of 600 so statistics are statistics--------- glad to see standards are finally on the rise!!
  25. The OOC schedule looks to be challenging but winnable. We don't seem to have the "MONEY" games that we had the past few years. Is that a problem or is it more difficult to schedule those "MONEY" games as the program improves??
