The problem is that the TU has two writers for Mens College Basketball. Mark Singelais covers Siena. He could do a better and provide more coverage, but all in all he does a pretty good job. He seems to genuinely care about the team he follows and is a fan. Tim Wilkin is responsible for covering Albany. I know people who know him and say that he is a good guy, but he absolutely SUCKS at his job. He isn't a college basketball fan (as far as I can tell) and obviously isn't a fan of UAlbany. My 9 year old kid could provide better written more timely info on the team than he does. He says that UA and Will Brown aren't as media friendly as Siena is and that's why he doesn't write more. I say BS. His job is to go out and look for info. He obviously doesn't care to do so. I could be way off here, but I think I remember seeing some discussion here a couple years ago about the reason why UA and Coach Brown are more tight-lipped around Times Union reporters. I don't remember whether somebody here definitely mentioned a kind of betrayal of confidence or whether it was something that I wrongfully deduced. Brown is normally fairly vocal with the media, particularly when he's dealing with media on a more national level, so I think he may be pretty gun-shy for a reason.

I went to the TU to check out the coverage of last night's game. Of course, I came away disappointed. When you look at the home page of the online version of the paper (the only format available to me), you see coverage only on Siena. Come on! We went to the NCAA's last year while LCC had already cleaned out their lockers. We played the second-ranked team a lot closer than LCC against its opponent. Further, when you dig deeper and finally find the article on our game, you can see one picture on our game. The caption identifies the Kentucky player beneath the photo, but there's no name associated with the UAlbany player contesting the shot. That's pretty poor coverage!

Former Hartford NBA'er working at Starbucks
olddog71 replied to Eli's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
Per Google: "The typical salary for a Starbucks Store Manager ranges from $36,000-$71,470, with an average salary of $48,697. Salaries estimates based on 608 salary submitted anonymously to Glassdoor by Starbucks Store Manager employees." It's not millions like he's used to, but if he can make a decent middle class wage, he'll be alright. That's more than some former alcoholics can claim. His story of 'recovery' is more intriguing though, and the reason why I shared it. A lot of people don't like the high salaries professional athletes makes, so no one can now complain about his "urned" income. Good story about his recovery. I like stories about people who take positive steps with second chances. -
More news about the 2016 game against Siena at SEFCU states that Siena will receive 600 tickets. I LOVE the fact that for the first time in sixteen years Siena fans will not have the season ticket holders have the UA game in their package! For the first time in that long a time they won't have the best seats in the house! They won't have the biggest allotment of tickets. Hurray for Brown and Benson in getting this deal done! Now we'll just have to fill the stands with our fans next year!

I am not sure why you bring this kind of stupidity here. The best your low major team can get from any other team in the nation would be a home and home where your home game would draw significantly less than your home game in this series . in addition to a home and home here, you have a possible tournament in year 3 including the areas premier team and you are upset at your AD, unbelievable Unfortunately, MTS talks out of both sides of his mouth on this issue. He wasn't nearly as nice to UA on his website.

Won't happen... We limit their tickets to 500 seats max... They will get one section... Behind their bench. Just let it play out... What would you have rather done? Play all games there...? Cancel wasn't an option I don't think. No, not behind their bench! Put them in the farthest corner of the arena and make them sit in the crappiest seats in the house, just like we have had to do for the duration. Make those of their fans who do attend feel like we have.

A four-hour drive for my wife and me, but it may be worth it.

MLax 2015

The Times Union listed the attendance today in Ithaca vs UA at 3,044. With the weather as it was today, do you think if UA had been the host it would have outdrawn Cornell's showing? -

Let's introduce another sport to UA athletics. Hardball. -
Looks like the home team did as well against OU as UA did.

Like everyone else, it's so difficult to compare the two teams for a final decision, but I'll add my humble opinion. The edge goes to 2005-06. As Dane96 states, the first time you do something it's so special. In addition to that factor, the reason why I go with the earlier year is because of our performance in two games. I loved how we took a commanding lead in the first half of the conference championship game against Vermont. That lead shows just how dominant we were in the conference that year. Of course, on the other hand, we didn't storm through the regular conference season as we did this year. The other reason why I chose the earlier year was our performance against UConn. As a sixteen seed against the number one school, I was absolutely stunned to see us take a 12-point lead against them in the second half. The game was in real doubt until virtually the last couple minutes. "Why not us?" If anybody else has a different opinion, believe me, I'll understand.

I wasn't aware of this fact until a couple minutes ago. "Albany: The Great Danes, who had 14 turnovers, lost for just the third time when turning it over fewer times than their opponent. They entered with 13 true road wins -- second in Division I only to undefeated Princeton."
-
I agree. I didn't see any, either.

Duke did not deserve to win that game. They were very lucky on their own court. I hope next year's AE team gets a lot more respect in the tournament selection.

Sue Hooley needed here.

Check out ESPN, Haggy. It has the box score. By the way, no UA player has more than three fouls now. We have outfouled Duke 12-9, though. Sorry you're not getting the info you should be receiving where it should be given.

What you said regarding scheduling another OOC contest makes sense. You do have good rivalries with the schools you mentioned. Regarding this season's UA contest versus Niagara, it was by far our worst outing of the season. Multiple players on our team had the flu. Every team's allowed a bad game every season. I'm quite sure you can think of a bad game UB had this year.

According the box score at half time, Duke is outrebounding the Danes 17-15, but UA has gotten three more offensive rebounds to lead in that department 8-5. In any case, contending with Duke's height, it's amazing the discrepancy is only 2.
