Lions Coach Jim Schwartz:

On LB Jon Morgan: "He's really smart. I think that's probably been the number one thing that has stood out about him. He's very assignment-sound and a great communicator. When the game came on, he was around the ball and made plays. He didn't get a lot of reps, but he was very productive in the reps that he got. Taking command and executing the scheme are both very important for linebackers. It's a moving world and there are a lot of things going on. He showed very well in his first action."

It's actually great news for both. Detroit has shyte at the Linebacker position for backups. The fact that Drew has not been cut is interesting because usually they would know the one fullback they would want to keep.

My guess is the following:

1. Both make the practice squads at a minimum

2. Drew is not cut yet because he will most certainly make a practice squad somewhere and the Bills would rather pick him up on final cuts so they don't want him entering a new team's system if they cut him today.

3. Jon has a real shot at making this team over Lewis.

Explained on Wyland that both Jon and Drew would have reached settlements in which they get paid thru the agreed-upon, expected time of treatement for their injuries, at which time they are released and become free agents who can sign with any team (including the Lions and Bills respectively). But going with this kind of IR is an indication they probably would not have been on the 53-man roster.
