Game #13: 12/2/23 - 12PM vs Richmond (FCS Playoffs Second Round)

Recommended Posts

4th ever December game in program history, 2nd at home, 1st at Casey:

2007, 12/1: 21-42 L @ Dayton in the Gridiron Classic (NEC champions vs Pioneer Champions)

2008, 12/6: 28-0 W against Jacksonville in the Gridiron Classic.  As I remember it the game was played with brutal December winds and Jacksonville wished they never came to upstate NY in December.

2019, 12/7: 21-47 L @ #5 Montana State. 2nd round of the FCS playoffs.  UAlbany opened the scoring with a long sideline route pass.

Win the first game and UAlbany will play the latest in the season they have ever played.

The fella at NCAA.COM predicted all the games.  He has NC Central beating Richmond, they have beaten 3 CAA teams(Elon, NC A&T, Campbell) this year, and then beating UA:

North Carolina Central matches up well with UAlbany and that's why I think the Eagles will win. North Carolina Central has an offensive line that's talented enough to limit one of the FCS's leading edge tandems in UAlbany's Anton Juncaj and AJ Simon. NCCU quarterback Davius Richard also rarely makes mistakes, so I don't see the Great Danes getting too many opportunities to capitalize off turnovers.

UAlbany quarterback Reese Poffenbarger has the ability to take over a game, but I think NCCU  defensive backs like Khalil Baker and Jason Chambers will force tight windows in this matchup. This game will be close, but I think North Carolina Central has what it takes to land the upset.

Not sure I can make sense of what this guy is saying. NCCU lost 50-20 to Howard two weeks ago. Their qb was 11-25 for 70 yards

obviously they can upset UA but it’s an odd pick

I agree, odd pick and they gave up 59 to UCLA, yes, that is a better FBS team than Marshall or Hawaii.  Beating Elon was a good win, Campbell is ehh, and NC A&T is like beating SBU.  In fact SBU vs NC A&T this year would have produce a zero-zero tie 😝.

Sagarin predictor favors UR over NCC by about five and us by twelve., us by ten over UR

Massey gives Richmond 70% to beat NCC, us 75%. Albany 57% over UR

Albany is #1 in team sacks (Juncaj 3rd, Simon 6th) and #1 in rushing defense. Of course this is tied to our getting out to big leads, so the other teams start throwing more, and we're 69th in passing yards allowed.

Anyway an outdoor game on December 2nd probably won't be a tough ticket

CCSU on 11/30/19 had 1,660 fans according to the box score so you're correct - even with the whole CAA champion thing, I wouldn't expect more than 3k. You'll be able to sit anywhere you want.

Probably not until they can print the opponent's name on the ticket - so I'd guess next Sunday.

Season tickets holders have until Sunday November 26 to purchase their seats.

Gold $40

Purple $25

White $20

Grey $15

Presume individual tickets would go on sale Monday November 27.

Email went out last night.

My ticket says FCS playoffs second round.

To be fair, that was thanksgiving weekend I believe. Should be more students around this year, albeit close to finals
