Good grief, says Charlie Brown.  This is a debacle so far.  Can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Update:  a bit better to end the half.  Got to get Beagle going, three fouls hurt and five TOs.

Our coach has preached mentality from his team, as fans in the stands and those who need to watch a stream of the games, we must demand accountability from Killings. A 32-8 run by the opposing team is unacceptable and no matter how much "better" UAlbany MBB played, could not overcome that start.  Only the misplaced egos and stupidity of Bryant allow us to close the gap.

From my vantage point, I see no progression in Killings game plans or coaching skills.

We are 2 levels below the top teams. I always expected a .500 conference record at best.  Any more than that is gravy.

I truly believe defense is all effort.  We don't have it.  Need to find a coach and a team to buy into it.

Yeah that defense just ain’t gonna cut it. Can’t go down 32-8 at home either

Don't know what happened or why UA had such a poor/mysterious start??  But from that point, actually beat Bryant 66 to UA's 81. Even with the "slow" start UA was with 4-6 pts with 4-5 minutes left, but ran out of gas; and/or got sloppy; and/or just could not muster enough DEFENSE, to get over the hump.

For what it's worth IMHO massL was/is the superior team to Bryant. Haven't seen Vermont, but big IF, UA could somehow find a little defense somewhere/somehow/ UKnow: offensively at least they CAN compete with the top 3-4.

Bryant's Achilles heel last season was their defense. They played none. With basically the same roster this season they are the best defensive team in the conference (analytically) and it doesn't seem close.

What changed? How did their new coach change their mentality?

UM?? UA put up 89 points on Bryant with a start of only 8 pts in the first 10 minutes or so. UA basically score 81 points 30 minutes on the best defense in the league?????? Not sure but IMHO I would NOT crown Bryant the defensive team award quite yet. MassL might light them up for 100+🤫.

Analytically they are, even after allowing 89 to us, and it isn't close.

As a math major, I’ve always liked the old saying: “There’s lies, there’s damn lies and then there’s statistics.” I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone, just wanted to throw that out. Lucky for me I watched the WBB game…a terrific battle and got caught up in football and totally forgot MBB until the 32-8 start was well into the rear view mirror. From where I picked it up they were in the game but just couldn’t get over the hump and make a run to close it. Maybe the OOC and early AE games were a bit of a mirage. They lost their 7 ft recruit and Neely is a big loss. I do believe that giving up that many points at home to a league opponent is an abject failure of coaching and execution. The women are carrying the season once again.

You are MORE than welcome to your analytics and opinions. Just saying from what I've seen so far and IMHO massL is a far superior team to Bryant. Better coach & more disciplined players. Bryant blocks A LOT of shots, maybe best in the country; but good coaching, and good execution. and perhaps a few inches difference in a block or a called foul, could go along way in negating this defensive strength of Bryant. Don't get me wrong and reiterate I respect your assessment of them; but IMHO I just do not see them finishing any better than 3rd or 4th in the conference. {there is a LONG way to go, but that is just how I SEE it now.}

It's not my opinion. It's Massey rankings and other analytics sites opinions on defensive efficiency. I never said Bryant was better than UML. I said that Bryant was ranked the best defense in the league. You too are free to have your own opinions but the numbers are what the numbers are.

Using the Bart Torvick site for this image because that site is free, but you will see similar numbers on all of the other sites and rankings out there...

In order of defensive efficiency:

UsmzUet.png

The original question is the same... What happened where Bryant could go from a team with below average defense causing them to under achieve last year, to being ranked the best defense in the league this year with the same basic roster makeup?
