Santillo also posted Ryan Spelman, a true freshman, will be the #2 QB. If I remember right he graduated high school early and started school in January. Meeks and Drew Smith were mentioned but I haven't heard about Ryan Smith, the Colgate transfer. Does he have to sit out this year?

You are correct about Spellman.

I thought Ryan Smith sat out last year? He does need to sit a year though in an FCS-to-FCS transfer.

so apparently there is other news...WCDB will be doing football games and not FoxSports 980. Per Santillo.

Side Note - Santillo is really my favorite local sports reporter. Only guy who actually looks at all local sports and gives UAlbany great coverage.

He may have sat at out at Colgate as I believe he is a 2011 grad of Guilderland.

Definitely has to sit out as a transfer. So he will be a 21yo soph I believe.

Roster lists him as a Freshman this year so I think you're right.

I hope that's not true. I love that I heart radio app on the iphone/ipad.

Why can't they both do it?

Ryan Smith was at Colgate last fall. he saw action in a few games. I believe he transferred to UAlbany for Spring Semester 2012.

The years are all blending for me.....

If that's the case then I believe he does have to sit and will be eligible for spring ball. But I'm certainly no eligibility expert.

Nice article by Santillo. I really enjoy the way he covers UA sports without an agenda. He will point out shortcomings when he sees them but never harps on them or is doom and gloom or sarcastic in his tone. So refreshing. I'm really pulling for Fiacchi. Just found out a friend of mine from the Syracuse area knows his family and he says he is a really great kid with a positive attitude. It would be nice to have a solid starter for the next three years, gaining experience and improving each year.

Bob Weiner of the Gazette also did a story on UA football. Mostly the same quotes, except Ford also said 'There is no quarterback race this year'.

The T-U had a story on pee-wee football programs that are feeders to local high school, the start of a five-part HS preseason series.

Online there are a couple of pictures of the Albany Athletics, who just won the Stan Musial World Series. On Wyland's show, their manager named 3 or 4 UAlbany players who are on this 18-and-over team.

I tweeted the question to Wyland but no response.

I hate to speculate, but any chance this could somehow be related to Wyland spilling the beans on CAA membership before he was authorized to do so?
