2014 Lacrosse schedule

Paid for the SU feed and watched the whole game. Gave up 7 goals in first quarter so it looked like defense was the same as last years. We seemed nervous in first quarter. Maybe due to the top 10 ranking and we are now expected to do well and not sneak up on anyone. Gave up 10 goals in last 3+ quarters so we settled down. Blaze gave up some easy ones. Offensively the Thompsons seemed to want to get others involved especially the middies and that may help all season as the Thompsons are marked men.

After only one game, its as simple as this: we win faceoffs, we can beat anyone, anywhere. We were 12 for 36 I believe. McNally and Russell shared duties but we can't lose the faceoffs by a 2 to 1 margin. Shore that up and this is a special season.

That's what top notch lacrosse looks like.. that's why I love lacrosse.

Can't complain, except for the final minute when we had a man advantage.... took the shot too quickly and gave up possession.

Should have been more patient.

Should be a memorable year.

The refs had a stall warning on. Not sure how long before they had to shoot,

It was fairly early in the stall warning. They were playing their game, and took the shot. Can't blame em.

I was actually surprised to see the box score and the faceoff stats. Quite a few of them, Syracuse won and then soon lost due to our pressure.

Agreed, we need to do better against the elite teams on faceoffs if we want to go places. First game, against the #1 team in the country.... I forsee

improvement in the faceoffs and our D.

I'm not sure I saw any 'easy' goals blaze gave away. Don't forget, Syracuse has a high powered offense.

I wasn't disappointed in our D. Several times, our guy gave theirs a half step which lead to goals, but overall solid.

So for the people that watched is the defense any better? Obviously the offense is still there.

I went to the game with three friends. We got there late in period one (5-2 when we arrived); so my assessment basically begins at that point. My 3 friends basically disagree with me, but I was very disappointed in the defense, especially the goal tending. Riorden had 11 saves in 28 chances, less than 40%. By comparison the two su goalies stopped 16 of 32 [50%). My friends say su is awfully good offensively (true-true), but so are we and the numbers do tell a story 50% to 40%--game changing #s. In addition su only had 8 assist, which means they scored 9 unassisted goals. This tells me two things: 1. we were getting beat one on one; and 2. Riorden was getting beat straight on for the most part. I never played lacrosse and certainly am no expert, but generally you would think it is harder to save a shot that results from a good pass than from a unassisted shot.

Face offs we were 12 of 36 to a team noted for having face off problems of it own. Our freshman face off specialist may still not be 100% injury wise??

So, I know our D did not give him a lot of help {even though at times they did play well-especially during our fourth qtr come back}, but we can not ignore that we have to get better goal tending, if we want to compete at the highest level.

It was an epic game. Let's just relax a little. I agree with your friends.

1st game of the season, in the Dome.... 1st quarter sucked.... I will attribute that to nerves.

Throw away the first period, and we beat em 13-9 in the last 3 quarters of regulation.

Due to injuries, let's just see what happens with faceoffs. McNally had the majority of faceoffs, which tells me Russell

isn't 100% from his injuries. Can't give Syracuse 2/3 of the faceoffs and expect them not to score. I wouldn't be too hard on the d.

Scott was just on Wyland's show, he said the stall warning was a 'gross misinterpretation' of the rule, that it should've been waved off for the man-up. (Also that the refs missed an SU offside when they got the ball after that.

He also seemed satisfied with the d tho it should get better. We also weren't helped by the lack of outdoor due to the weather last week.

OK

Thanks. for providing Scott's explanation. I saw the stall warning before the penalty. I am not an expert, but I had though the stall would be off with the penalty and then saw them call it again right when the penalty started. I did not know if that was a new warning or continuation of the one before the penalty. The answer in fact is it should have been neither :( Also not sure how they missed the offside. 2 cuse guys scambled back after to the defensive zone after the ball moved in the offensive half going from 1 man too many there to 1 man too little for a brief time.

Looking forward to watching some games. Anyone know if aeast.tv will cover all home games?

So far, the AE schedule shows video links for all games at Albany and at Stony Brook but no others.

http://www.americaeast.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=14000&SPID=6539&SPSID=65879

but americaeast.tv shows a total of seven men's games just thru March 1

http://www.americaeast.com/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=14000&DB_OEM_ID=14000

Our schedule doesn't show any links, but the Johns Hopkins game and the AE finals will be on ESPNU.
