Great win.

Pre-season all conference picks were Richards and Craig.

Three games in Richards looks like a no-brainer, but I would take Royals over Craig on al all-conference team at this point.

Seems odd to say it, but I think Megan's hands look a little too soft when they are tossing the ball inside...grab that ball!

There's no online article in today's Times Union about the Marist game tonight. What a letdown! How often does such a highly-ranked college team visit the Capital District, or is it because the game isn't being played at the TU Center?

The top of the sports page is Jennifer Gish's column "Green pasture's right here".Not really a pregame story, but the start time is a sidebar, and comparisons to Marist are in the story.

The Marist game is a two-year deal. Their women's team, rather than the boring Lady Red Foxes, should be known as the Vixens.

Good article about the coach. Thanks for citing it for me.

Amazing game and second half effort. I was not a fan of playing zone in the first half because Marist's #25 was running the baseline and finding seams, and outside shooters were being left open. Once Coach went with a smaller lineup when Craig picked up foul #4, we were able to apply more ball pressure and recover quicker down low and in the corners. Coughlin was a real spark on defense and seemed to be all over. Great effort by her and everyone on the perimeter in the second half!

The pick and roll is something we need to work on. The pass is getting to Craig way too late. Too many forced entry lob passes too. We want Richards and Craig to get the ball in the post too, but we can't force it.

Craig didn't deserve some of those fouls. Just because she reaches over and above the opposing player to grab a rebound doesn't mean it is an over-the-back foul! There is no contact there; she is just taller.

I didn't sense much of a plan on offense for Marist. I think our zone might have disrupted them. They do shoot well when left open though, and #25 and #13 are good interior players.

Fantastic job by Royals and our guards at penetrating the lane and getting fouls called on Marist in the second half. At one point it was 10 fouls on Marist compared to our 2.

Finally, Richards must have picked up her PlayStation 4 today because she was playing games with Marist: she had 28 points and 15 rebounds while sitting out half of the first half with 2 fouls. Wow.

Amazing game and exciting to watch!

Just to play devil's advocate, the issue could also be above the writers at the TU and could be the editors dictating what gets covered, how it gets covered, and when it gets covered.

But I am only speculating of course. I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the TU.

I do find the topic of Times Union bias a fascinating topic that is itself worthy of coverage by a young journalist looking to ruffle some feathers.

I differ from nearly all posters on here because I am not ready to make a claim that the Times Union is biased towards UA or holds an animus towards us. I do not deny that it might exist; I simply want an objective standard by which to measure such bias.

Again, I do not deny that there is a TU bias. I am just interested in applying the definitions of animus and bias and then seeing how the data or way we measure these concepts affirms our claim that the TU is biased.

I understand your point of view. Most of the time, I feel the Times Union favors Siena over Albany. Perhaps it's because the newspaper name is tied in with the name of the arena; perhaps it's because Siena usually draws better than UA; perhaps it's just a tradition. On the other hand, I have seen the TU lavish praise on UA. The first time the men's team went to the NCAA's we received so much coverage from the paper that it was almost embarrassing. Almost.

Box score says attendance was 882, I'd say Marist brought about 200 or so. One student section was almost half full (late-arriving), the other had the band. Still, a better than usual crowd for a women's game. Richards was 28 pts., 15 boards. Royals 15-8-8 with 0 turnovers.
