SMU 12/20 8:00

Recommended Posts

Coach on the radio today said that SMU's point guard is 6'6" and every other starter is bigger, but they pretty much only play five guys and they have to play Stanford tonight, so maybe that's a break and he can use the "they're disrespecting us and expect us to just collect a paycheck" ploy. They're #6 in rebounding margin (we're #9) and #21 in scoring defense.

Travis felt OK yesterday after Saturday's game. Lands may be back after Christmas.

Two-degrees-of-separation opponents: SMU beat Eastern Michigan by 27, Vermont beat EMU by 8. SMU only beat Delaware State by 14, Bing beat DSU by 19 and UMBC beat them by 22

Weird scheduling for SMU. The Stanford game is on ESPN2, our game is on ESPN3 at 8 locally.

SMU has good wins over Pitt and TCU already. Hopefully their Stanford game goes to five overtimes tonight.

I thought we'd see one of the top rated Australian recruits, freshman Harry Froling who signed with SMU but he recently announced he's leaving the school to play elsewhere.

Maybe this time we'll cover the 3 ball and stop going under the freakin screen. I don't understand Browns philosophy on that...it's like Gattuso's aversion to throwing a slant.

If you're playing a team that is known to jack 3's...fight OVER the screen to stay on the guy and not give him space and slide a help defender over if he decides to pin his ears back and run. If you're playing a team with guards who use the screen to attack, go under to get back in front and let them fire up a low percentage shot over their big. It's not rocket science...I can't possibly be the only one who notices this.

I've noticed this for the better part of the decade...it's a system issue not a breakdown on execution on a game by game basis. It's maddening to me.

speaking of stats... some interesting info found on this site....

http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/conferences/america-east/2017.html

you can expand all of the categories to see where everyone stands. Since it is still OOC play and all of the levels of competition between teams has been different, the comparisons dont mean much, but there is some great info - especially if you look at just the UA team.

(credit where credit is due: I found the site from someone post on the LCC board)

They give us a 51% chance of making the conference finals. I'll take those odds in a year with so many new faces. I don't think we're anywhere near peak with this team yet.
