Last Up: W (35-28) vs Rhode Island

Albany came out flat against Rhode Island and was down 14-6 at the half but, as has been the case most games this season, came out much better in the 2nd half on their way to a 35-28 victory. Offense was a bit shaky but made enough plays to help seal the win and the defense did their part causing turnovers and even scoring. Special teams also got involved.

Kudos to the staff for fixing whatever ailed them in the 1st half and for the players reacting. Pats on the back all around.

Interesting weekend in the CAA:

Maine beats William and Mary 34-25

SBU beats (6)Villanova by 1. 36-35

Richmond Beats (19)Delaware (the UA loss isn't looking as bad, but is really a lost opportunity)

Now a 3 way tie for second in the CAA Between UA, NH, and Richmond: with Albany listed on top because of the better overall record.

I believe Delaware lost their QB to a trageting hit in the Elon game.  Last week they ran a power run game, surprised NH and won.  Tough to lose starting QB like that I would think.

Eight teams playing for likely four maybe five spots.  Everyone would like to finish 4-0 or 3-,0 .... Finishing 5-3 in conference is likely having a team looking on the outside.  James Madison is a lock; their schedule consists of very winnable games.  UAlbany has games that largely depend on how we play and how much our opponents want to make the post season.

Too many scenarios for me to look at but I think 8 wins gets you to the playoffs (some teams might have a chance with 7 wins but I don’t think our schedule is strong enough to support that scenario). So we need to win 3 of the last 4.  We don’t have any games against the league powers so we should be competitive in the remaining games.

I watched the Villanova / Stony Brook game this morning and Stony Brook was very lucky to get the win.  Villanova absolutely took defeat from the hands of victory.  Bad clock management and bad defense to give Stony Broook a chance in the end.

This is one game that a Villanova win would have had Stony Brook on shaky grounds and makes an UAlbany win over Stony Brook estential.

UAlbany football ready but cautious after bye

UAlbany has lost its game coming out of the bye week the past four years in a row. And it's not just the Great Danes' problem. Colonial Athletic Association teams are 2-7 after byes this season.

Senior cornerback Kareem Gibson is back at practice on Tuesday after missing two games because of arthroscopic knee surgery. Gattuso noted Gibson, senior offensive guard Griffin Clancy of Saratoga Springs and safeties Tyler Carswell and Josh Wynn of CBA were all able to practice to varying degrees on Tuesday. Starting cornerback Jarren Williams was also practicing after getting banged-up in the victory over Rhode Island on Oct. 19. Starting linebacker A.J. Mistler is also making progress toward playing, according to Gattuso.

Gattuso on the radio: Maine has been using a freshman QB who is more mobile and talented than their first starter. They’ve outgained all but one team this year.

Not only a good runner and receiver, Mofor is probably the best blocking back he’s seen here, even keeping the DE off Jeff.
