You guys like him more than I do.  I thought is defense was good.  Not great. Fouled a ton. Offensively, he can't create his own shot . Not a great shooter. He hustles.  Which is great. To me and I understand its my opinion but he is a 10 minute player on a D1 team.

I've been in agreement with you for a long time. Nice role player, solid hustle, good depth. Nothing against him, always was a good teammate.

If he had an Empire Scholarship isn't that just budget management? The kid goes for free, so why not spend the money on outside of NY players.

Sometimes the act of acknowledgement is important, Marcus Filien received that acknowledgement during the season.  Perhaps, an athletic scholarship from UAlbany meant little however, the change of scenery and opportunity meant more.

If there was a transfer portal for fans, I probably give strong consideration.

Was Marcus Fillien on a free ride regardless? Youre playing D1 basketball and you are going for free..not "officially" giving the scholarship helps your team bring in another out-of-state player.  Thats a no brainer to me.

Agree wholeheartedly for the first year or even two, but the acknowledgement goes beyond basketball. Most players aren't going to play professionally (not a comment on Jackson or Fillien) and are going to enter the business world at some point. Being a scholarship player on a D1 team is a big resume thing, and being a walk-on that earned a scholarship is an even bigger resume thing.
