I really think I've figured it out though. It really looks like they are trying to run a version of the 5 out Motion offense. This means no real set plays and is designed for creativity. It relies less on ball screens and pick and rolls and is more about spacing and set directions of motion. The problem is that they aren't moving the ball and are using the setup as an excuse to play hero one on one ball. I have seen them run it well on a few possessions against American and FAU, but for the most part it just turns into someone forcing a three or driving into multiple bodies.

This is an interesting observation, and one I have not even contemplated.  I mean, DK has been around the game his whole life...he's no dummy.  He has to have SOME sort of strategy.  It is just hard to decipher.  I know he stated he wanted to push the ball and use his athletes.  So your theory is plausible.

That said, while he may have some athletes, the collective basketball IQ is so low that it would be on the bottom side of a bell curve.  So, he'd be unwise to run that type of offense.

Whatever he is running it looks like street ball and it isn't to say it is street ball but that is simply how it turns out with the one-on-one hero ball.

the other flaw--if he is running aversion of the 5 out motion--is that he needs to teach the guys set plays for the times when they are undersized or out-athleted.  I don't know if he is capable of that because we don't see any adjustments in-game.

It will be very interesting to see what happens in conference play because the league is not as strong as we thought it would be.  I'd argue it is levels worse than what we expected. He may be able to go 2 games under 500 or 500 in this league and surprise a team in the playoffs.

I might be wrong, as I'm now watching for the movement. The set up is there, but I'm not seeing the cuts and rotations, although that could be why it's not working lol. This is really the new school of basketball. I saw a video about St. Joseph's College of Maine from a few years ago that really showed how to make it work.

I mean, it could have been worse. We out rebounded them but gave up a ton of steals, etc.

As I said before the game, they would have a shot in the game if they made shots. The overall shooting percentage is misleading. They went periods where nothing would happen right, and periods where they looked good. All or nothing. They fought back, and yes the bench played for a while, but the team had gotten to within 15 and at the line after being down a lot more. Were on a run when the bench came in. There were definitely some good signs. They showed they can do it for stretches in every game. This was another case of having several extended stretches of nothing, and the inability to get a basket to end a run. No middle ground with the team.

Over the last couple games, Massachusetts has shown a tendency to get out to comfortable lead, then take the foot off the pedal.  So, perhaps we took advantage what Massachusetts gave us.

This is an absolute fact.

We beat the point spread! We stink, but we beat the point spread. Perhaps this is what the season has become. Our D-3 point guard, Davis, once again nowhere to be seen. Anyone out there still holding out any hope of Reddish becoming a player to be taken seriously? Not me.

Who cares, every single kid on this team except for Beagle can quit or get recruited over...Maybe Drumgoole and Reddish can stay as well as Neely who's injured but the rest of this roster is hopefully elsewhere this time next year along with DK. That experiment is over...Benson needed to nail that hire and he fell flat on his face.

Anyone seen Amica...what happened to this kid...did the injuries really derail him to this extent. He was supposed to be good...was a great HS player...but it appears his career is over before it even started.

TO get an idea of just how bad Albany is this year, Lowell absolutely is HANDLING (throttling) UMASS, at UMASS.  It isn't even close.

Pat Duquette (great guy I've shared coffee and cocktails with at my neighborhood sport cafe) runs a very similar ship to the other coaches who have been successful in this league.  No flash, no fancy, no bull$iena.  Just get players and play in a system.

I am so happy Jon Iati is doing well over there, and Lowell did a good job navigating the portal.  It is precisely why I say this "give a coach 3-4 years" thing is nonsense in the modern college game.  If you have a plan, hard workers, and build a team...you should be able to put out a good squad.
