Eli, I think access to your stats should come with one of those warning labels like: “Caution-lack of offense may be potentially offensive to some viewers-click CONTINUE if you can stomach it.”

10% 3PT shooting last night LOL.

UALBANY MEN’S BASKETBALL

UAlbany’s Jonathan Beagle on Monday earned his sixth America East Rookie of the Week honor.

ALBANY — A day after University at Albany men’s basketball coach Dwayne Killings pleaded not guilty to an assault charge in Kentucky court via video conference, it was business as usual for the Great Danes.

UAlbany (6-15, 1-5 America East) was preparing to travel to the University of New Hampshire (8-10, 3-3) for a game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lundholm Gymnasium.

Killings, speaking after the team’s practice, declined to comment on the ongoing legal situation.

“My only focus for these guys is giving them everything that I have to make them better players, better students and better men. That’s it. My only focus is our program,” he said.

Killings is accused of pushing a player, Luke Fizulich, against a locker and slapping him with an open hand before a November 2021 game in Kentucky. The incident has already resulted in a school investigation last spring and a civil case brought by Fizulich against Killings, athletic director Mark Benson and UAlbany.

“I really feel like the team is focused. We’ve been doing a good job of leaving outside things outside, and pretty much focusing on the team, because this is what’s important right now,” fifth-year guard Da’Kquan Davis said. “We’re just trying to stay together as a team, trying find a way to get one win, two wins and string along wins from there.”

The Great Danes have yet to put together a winning streak this season and are tied with Maine for last place in the America East.

Last time the Great Danes played the Wildcats, Killings apologized to fans after the game, a 67-51 loss in which UAlbany trailed 41-18 at halftime.

“As well as we played in that game, now you’re into the middle of conference play. Every game is a grind. Every game is crucial, and there’s no question that they’re going to come up here tomorrow night, I think, with that last game we played them in mind,” UNH coach Bill Herrion said.

Herrion got that right.

“Last time at home they embarrassed us a little bit, so we’re not trying to get back at them, but we just want to go in there and make a statement,” freshman forward Jonathan Beagle said.

Beagle earned his sixth Rookie of the Week honor Monday after scoring a team-high 17 points in UAlbany’s lone game last week, a loss to Binghamton. That puts him in second place in the UAlbany record books, tied with sophomore forward Justin Neely.

Jon Iati set the record with seven awards in 2003-04.

“I’m just playing basketball. Just trying to be the best player I can be. Obviously we’re not winning as much as I want to, so just getting the wins and that’s all I’m worried about,” Beagle said.

Beagle averages 12 points per game, second on the Great Danes, and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game. He’s second in assists (39) and tied for third in steals (15).

Edmead and Davis, two guards who are complete zero's. Those are your PG's and where half the problems of this team start. ZERO pts between them, 2 assists, 2 turnovers, 3 fouls...0-3 from the field and a whole lot of useless dribbling.

Again gave up 50% from the field, can't contain dribble drive, wide open 3's. Very disheartening stuff...legitimately 60% of this roster can't be back next season if not more.

I've tried to remain positive on this team, but I feel this season is over. Probably going to end up not even getting a playoff game as the bottom team in the league.

Yes injuries have derailed the team, and yes they would be better with Little, Amica, and Neely playing everyday, but I'm not convinced that would be enough to pull them up to the top 4. Maybe make the team the 6-8 seed instead of the 9?

Embarrassing what has happened to this once proud program. Maybe the team and program got stale after Cremo and Nichols transferred out for their grad seasons, but UA hasn't been below the 6 seed in the league since the 09-10 season and was in the top 4 more often than not under WB.

In the Division 1 era the team finished last place only twice. (03-04 / year 3 in D1, and the aforementioned 09-10 season).

Just disgusting. I don't understand the results, because while many are bashing the ability and D1 readiness of many of the players, I see more than enough talent. Just poor basketball IQ, poor defensive effort, and poor execution. Inability to square up on a shot, everything is fading or drifting. Just terrible basketball.

I have zero regard for talent on the bench or on the court....on the court I only like Beagle. Everyone else stinks...even kids like Drumgool have regresses badly.

When a borderline walkon like Jackson is your leading scorer, you have a very bare cupboard. Quite and indictment for a guy allegedly a great recruiter. He seems to be good identifying one kid every year that's exceptional, beagle and Neely and then I don't know ..just gives up to fill in around them.

This is a talentless team that isn't coached at all by a staff way in over their heads.

This season is over...they may steal another game somewhere, maybe. But this roster needs to be gutted...I mean he gave Kettner a scholarship...good kid but clearly not a D1 player. That's all you need to know about DK.

Unless something new comes up in his legal case...he isn't getting fired for financial reasons. If he's smart...he runs off most of these kids and fires this entire staff. Very little experience on the bench ...his career is on the line and may already be over. He needs to act like a desperate man to save what remains because he's a complete trainwreck.

Let me simplify it for you, as I have been staying quiet for a bit:  TERRIBLE COACHING.  Full Stop, end discussion.  At 400k, we should not be in the business of letting a coach figure out how to coach at the D1 level.  I totally agree that a healthy Amica, Neely, and a head on straight Little would give us a boost...but it is a boost that is about 2 spots.
